“Now…Miss Royal isn’t it?”

The young woman, who to her fans was known simply as PennyRoyal, but whose real name was Eloise which she hated, smiled politely and nodded. She hated interviews almost as much as she hated her name, but she’d get through this one just as she had gotten through all the others. Ever since her radio show had become syndicated a few months back she’d been swamped with a truckload of problems that she hadn’t been expecting when she’d gotten into radio. Now she tried not to bare her teeth at the camera that she was pretty sure was getting a close up of her face just about…now.

“Your show has taken huge leaps in a very short time. And you’re only what? Twenty-four? Twenty-five? What is it about your talk show that has made you so famous so fast?”

Penny’s smile, turned a bit brittle around the edges but she simply widened it and told it to behave itself.

“Initially, my show was only a means to an end.”

“What do you mean by that?”

Penny hesitated, looking out over the studio audience with jaded eyes before she finally came to a decision.

“People, americans especially, have very short attention spans. With new inventions developed everyday with an emphasis on making things faster, better, stronger, it’s one of our rights as American’s to have a slight case of ADD. It’s because of this that it’s so important to be able to grab someone’s attention and hold it. And three things that will hold anyone’s attention is sex, violence, and the forbidden. My show, Bleeding Heart caters specifically to such things. People are given a chance to not only tell their secrets, most of them painful, but also reveal their fantasies. It’s all anonymous. No one has to know who you are, and sometimes just the chance to talk and get it off your chest is a wonderful motivation.”

Her host, a kindly looking middle aged man leaned back in his seat, tapping his chin with one finger as he considered her. From the corner of her eye, the ’On Air” light shone red like blood.

“So what makes your show different from any other radio show out there? What makes it so unique?”

Penny angled her head to one side, giving the man a charming lopsided smile.

“Me.”
