**********************

Stones were falling all around me, people screaming as ran either away from the destroyed tower or stayed kneeling while stones hit and killed them. I wanted to run too, away from this evil and to find him. I couldn’t move, every muscle felt as though it were paralyzed, as I became one with the new being inside of me. This was his gift so that I could find him, find him and never lose him again.
I woke with a start, as the wagon we had been traveling hit yet another rock, and the scrolls and books I had been researching from, fell from their piles and small towers. Towers, that’s what I had been searching for, a tower build for power and evil; one that most history books mention but never in detail. I felt as though I was researching a ghost that had left too much terror in the hearts of people to be remembered.
“So did you find anything yet,” Shadow whispered behind me, from out side the wagon opening, “Did those books tell you anything? Or are they as useless as you are?”
“Shut up Shadow.” I replied, feeling his gaze over my shoulder and knowing that they held nothing but contempt for me, and for what? I had no clue why Shadow didn’t like, didn’t trust me. I had only been anything but trust worthy, but I nothing to prove to Shadow or even Malus. To tell the truth I couldn’t even figure out why I was still traveling with them. I found Malus, but everything he was before died. Showing nothing but a husk of his true self. I just could not leave.
We traveled for another couple hours, Malus on horse back in the front, and Shadow driving the wagon, ignoring be in the back was becoming his favorite past time, until we came to an inn. The inn wasn’t actually much of an inn, more like a shack with multiple add ons, but the ground was muddy from the infrequent rains, so there was no thought to where we were staying.

*****************************
Malus lay on the bed across from Aidan, his mind drifting in a haze. He never slept any more, only rested. Even since the change 15 years ago, he had not been able to sleep, once he closed his eyes he could see him inside, the inky darkness that resided in the corner of his mind; and he could see them, the small patches of light cowering and hiding. Sometimes he felt as though they were separate entities living in his mind, like not all of them were him. He knew though, that it was him falling into insanity. Malus was just becoming the demon everyone said he was, his inside matching his red eyes.
A moan pulled Malus out of his thoughts, turning his head he saw Aidan tossing and turning in her bed, once again deep in a nightmare that would last for the entire night.
“Luis,” she whispered, and a sharp pain reverberated throughout his whole body at the sound of that name. “Luis,” she whispered again, but this time it sounded much painful and tears had began to well up in her eyes. “Luis,” her eyes were now open, her green eyes bright in the night. They pulled him to her, as if they held something powerful and very, very important to him. Almost familiar.
Before he knew it, he was kneeling in front of her, while she still laid on the bed, turned towards him.
“Luis, it hurts.”
“I know,” he said, cupping her cheek in his hand as he lowered he lips to hers.
“Malus stop it.” Shadow said as he walked up behind, him and laid a hand on his shoulder. “She’s still asleep.” Indeed she was, already her eyes began to close again, and their pull lessened, soon Malus was himself again. Returning to a world where his past life was dead to him, and he could no longer be whole again.
“They’re on to us Malus. I found a couple following us, we need to be more careful and we can’t keep traveling with such a heavy load.” Shadow said as he looked down at Aidan. “She’s just slowing us down, we need to leave her behind-“
“No.” Malus interrupted.
“But-“
“I said no, she stays with us.” And with that he turned his back on both Shadow and the sleeping Aidan. “Don’t you have somewhere to go?”
“Right…Look out.” Shadow began to fade into the background, “Just don’t get too involved…” With the last words said he disappeared.
**************************

It was a beautiful day, the day my father brought home the boy with red eyes. I remember the scared look he gave the both of us, when my father offered him a home. He didn’t remember his name nor where he came from, my father just told me that he found the boy in the forest. We guessed he was my age, about six and I was glad to have a new playmate, especially one with beautiful red eyes; and I told him so. His response was to glare at me and call me stupid.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about, they are pretty.”
“These are demon eyes.” He said.
“No.”
“Yes.”
“No.”
“Yes.”
And thus our new friendship was made, I even named him Luis, which he said was also stupid but still kept the name.
At the age of seven I fell in love with him, which he also said was stupid. At the age of nine, we were attached at hip. And at the age of ten they came for him and took him away, my father, and my entire village. I vowed revenge for all of them, and I vowed to find Luis.
