Chapter 3
It was hard to believe how much money that had earned him. Nine hundred fresh dollars in his pocket felt good, even if it wouldn't be that much in a few minutes. He hurried across the street, noticing Julian was already heading down the other side, ice cream in hand.
The purple-haired guy was probably scared - and perhaps for good reason - about what Rick would pull after that, but Kyun would see what he could do about it. As he caught up with him, he grinned and spoke cheerfully, wrapping an arm around the smaller guy. "Not so fast, buddy! Anything else you're good at? You're solid gold!" He paused for a bit, then pulled three hundred out of his pocket. "I believe these are yours."
Julian looked at the money with surprise and then at Kyun. It wasn't difficult to see that he was starting to blush. Almost looked like he was going to refuse, but something changed his mind. "I'll take a hundred. Seeing the jerk humiliated like that was reward enough. I'm sorry you had to put up with him, though."
With a smile, the Korean pushed the requested amount of bills into his hand, putting the rest back in his own pocket. "I guess your appetite may be spoiled now, but I'm going to offer dinner anyway. Or perhaps there's somewhere else you'd rather go?"
Glancing down at his small ice cream cone, Julian chuckled lightly. "Oh shucks! I could have had you pay for this?" He took a long lick and then stuffed the money into his pocket. "I have a bigger appetite than this, believe me. Dinner sounds great."
Ok, so far so good. Couldn't get much better chances of trying to figure something out than over a meal. "Cool. Where do you want to go?" Kyun looked around, but didn't see anywhere that drew his attention in this block. Not that he'd know what to look for; fancy places to eat had never been his thing.
"I don't know much about this neighbourhood..." Julian frowned in thought as he consumed a bit more of the ice cream. In no time at all, his face lit up and he looked over to meet Kyun's eyes. "Do you like Greek food? I saw a place that didn't look too pricey on the way here, maybe a block or two away. I've been to one hell of a lot of restaurants, but Greek isn't easy to find in this city."

The dinner was great. It was always fun to try new food, especially with a new person. If there was anything Julian liked more than ice cream, it had to be people. But the dinner was over and he suspected he'd have to go back home again. That was always the dullest part of his day and typically avoided it as long as possible – Oh yeah, work tomorrow... Damn!
He stepped out of the restaurant and took a deep breath of the not-so-fresh air. Even if he didn't know Kyun well at all, he was comfortable around the guy. That was important, though it was a somewhat sad thought that it could be a superficial meal together and he wouldn't see the guy again. With that in mind, he turned on the sidewalk and smiled at his current companion. "Thanks for suggesting the meal. I probably would have forgotten to get supper after that game."
Seeming slightly uneasy about something, Kyun rubbed his shin with his shoe. "Yeah... listen, I meant to talk to you about something." He hesitated for a bit, then swallowed and claimed eye contact. "I don't want you to get in trouble with that Rick guy over this. Is there anything I can do to prevent that?"
"Oh..." Julian sighed and shrugged. It did scare him that Rick would hurt him for it. Rick was a mechanic at a shop he hung out at during his spare time, and just not going there wasn't an option; had too many friends at risk to stop. Still, there was no reason to get this guy involved in that problem. "You really don't have to worry about that. If he hurt me, he'd lose his job. He should be smart enough to know."
The Korean thought for a bit, then rested a hand on the other youngster's shoulder. "Well, I have an idea. How about you come around to our place tomorrow? Pick a good time, and if you're not there by then, we'll come looking for you. I guess he could do all sorts of childish stuff, but if he starts and you let him know about that bit, maybe he'd stop?"
Their place? The intentions of that suggestion were probably completely innocent, but still his mind wandered to inappropriate possibilities. Could only hope he wasn't blushing. The guy was most likely straight anyway, so he tried to block the thoughts. He scratched his head as he considered it. "Well, tomorrow I'd be at the shop around noon, and then I have a soccer game at three, so... What about 6?"
Pulling out a piece of paper and a pen, Kyun grinned broadly before jotting down a number. "Here's my number. We can meet up somewhere you know how to find. And if something bad happens before then," his voice darkened, and he looked insistently into Julian's eyes with a serious expression, "you call me. Understood? I can't have people getting in trouble because of me, it keeps me from getting any sleep." A smirk returned to his face as he winked, moving his hands to Julian's hips. "You're great. I really like you."
"Th-that I did not expect to hear after I've caused all this trouble, but I'll take the compliment anyway." Julian looked at the number, and then down at the hands on his hips. He was used to people touching him constantly when they had no interest, but everything combined made him suspect either that was flirting, or the guy was very friendly. "I'll call you. Promise. I'd be more than happy to see you again."
Kyun blinked and took a deep breath. "Good. I -" He started, but was interrupted by his phone ringing. "Sorry..." he said absent-mindedly and fished it out. "Hello?" A bit of time passed, then he responded urgently. "Shit. I'll be there as soon as I can." He looked quickly at Julian, frowning slightly. "Look, I hate just running off like this, but I must go right now. See you tomorrow!"
Julian blinked, a little confused but nodded. "No problem. See you!" After a quick wave, he glanced around to locate the nearest phone booth. It had been a good night after all, and he was rather excited about what tomorrow would bring, but at the moment he had to call a cab.
