The Initiation
The Initiation
“Jaxs, I can’t do this! It looks painful! Do I have to?” Sadie said looking at the tattooing needle. It had only been a few days since she had decided to join the gang. Jaxs was healing excellently under her care. Sadie had finally allowed him to start leaving the loft again.
She looked at Tank, the gangs tattoo artist. Every Brotherhood member had a small tattoo of the letters “DB” and a circle with horns, their gang symbol. Sadie was nervous, she’d never gotten a tattoo before.
“Blue, just sit down and relax. Put it on her hip bone, Tank” Jaxs said as Sadie carefully took a seat, and unzipped her jeans revealing her hip bone, and the pink lace top of her undies. Sadie closed her eyes as needle hit her skin; she grabbed Jaxs hand and held on tight.
“Blue you’re hurting me, babe.” Jaxs whispered calmly in her ear, and began running his hand through her hair soothingly.
“Shut up! It hurts!” She replied but relaxed her grip anyway and realized it didn’t hurt as much as when she fell off the wall at the manor and broke her collarbone.
She opened her eyes to see Jaxs looking at her; she then looked down and watched the ink go into her skin.

Thirty minutes later Jaxs and Sadie returned to the loft, Sadie laid down on one of the couches and removed her jeans. She stretched and laid down in her tank top and underwear, Jaxs leaned over the back of the couch. Sadie ran her fingers gently over the bandage on her hipbone.
“How ya doing?”
“Ok, it hurts a little and itches a lot.”
“That’s expected,” He said walking around the couch and lifting her head and sat down. She sat up and leaned against his side and he twirled a blue curl around his finger.
“So Jaxs, what does this initiation involve?” She asked looking up at him.
“Well, after you’re tattoo sets and heals, the whole gang will meet and agree on you’re initiation, and then you’ll be sworn in, and be given your gun. That’s all.”
“Really, no self-proving tasks?”
“Nope. You’ve already proved you’re worth to me, by keeping me healthy and alive.” Jaxs said, and Sadie laughed. She then started to get up, but Jaxs stopped her.
“Where do you think you’re going?” Jaxs said holding her arm.
“To make lunch, I have to continue doing a good job.”
“Not when you need to heal, look I’ll make lunch,” Sadie laughed, “I can make a sandwich thank you!” He said but Sadie still smiled widely at him. Jaxs said pulling her towards him and ruffling her curls.
“Look you just relax and I’ll make sandwiches.”
“Ok, I’ll be right here, if you need anything.”

A week later, the girls burst into the loft as Sadie was making dinner. Sadie’s initiation announcement had been sent out that morning. And people were stopping by to say hello and welcome to the family.
“Blue! We just heard, welcome to the family hun!” Janice said hugging her. Sadie smiled as the four sat down. She pulled out glasses, and filled them with lemonade.
“Look we just came by to tell you that, we are so excited to have you become one of the girls!” Cat said.
Carmon shushed her, “Will you be staying here with Jaxs?”
“Well, that’s what he said, since I’m settled in and comfortable and all.” Sadie replied adding some salt to the pan of chicken and rice. The girls looked at each other knowingly. “What? Is there something wrong with that?”
“No nothing wrong it’s just…word through the grape vine is, Jaxs is ganna ask you to be his girl.” This came from Lucky
“So?”
“So…a gang leaders girl is like his icon, they get shown off at clubs. It’s more then just a girlfriend, like the size of his territory, the beauty and skill of his girl is seen as what defines him as a leader. Basically, the hotter you are and the better you fight and stuff while you’re Jaxs’s girl…the more of a threat the Brotherhood seems to other gangs.” Hil explained
“Yeah and the more you, the person Jaxs protects the most, can fend for yourself, the more dangerous the rest of use seem.”
Sadie blushed, and scooped some of the chicken and rice onto plates. She turned to the door as it opened and Jaxs entered, “I’m home, babe.” Then he looked the girls.
“Dinners ready Jaxs, I’m ganna go clean up, thanks for dropping by girls! I’m so glad we’ll get to be so close.” She said hugging them good bye, then headed to her bedroom. She could hear Carmon and Jaxs talking through the door.
“Look, she’s one of the girls now, and you can’t keep her trailing along. Either you make her you’re girl or you move her down to one of our apartments.”
“Carmon, I like having her around…”
“But she shouldn’t be used as a housekeeper. She has feelings and she’s new to all this, Blue doesn’t know how ugly it can get.”
“She’ll be fine.”
“Gangsters die, Jaxs! She needs the protection, besides you like her. You can’t lie to us we see it.”
“I know people die and that’s exactly the reason I’m hesitant about making her my girl. I like her a lot, she’s amazing, but so was Dee.”
“Jaxs, that wasn’t your fault, you have to move on! Just think about it, she’d be great.”
“I know.”
Sadie only entered the room after she heard Carmon leave. She looked at herself in the new mirror Jaxs had gotten her. Did he really want her? To protect her more then anything? She walked out to the kitchen to find Jaxs sitting on the couch with his head in his hands. Sadie took a seat next to him.
“What’s wrong?” She asked, putting a hand on his arm, her eyes filled with worry.
“Sadie I…I…God I can’t do this anymore! I can’t be a leader, dealing with rivals and expectations. Enforcing rules that are meaningless. Always trying to show up other leaders with girls and guns. I can’t keep watching my friends die with a bullet in the chest.” He said frantically, almost at tears. Sadie wrapped her arms around him.
“Look, I ran away from a father that wanted me to be a beauty queen heiress. With all these stupid parties and etiquette, that was pointless and crazy and drove me insane. I was betrothed! So I got scared of not being in control of my own life. I ran, and I found a life I could control, hell I run a household, and you…without you I’d be the sex slave of Fang…you’re a great leader, and everyone in this building would agree with me. I heard you’re conversation with Carmen.”
“What?”
“And I get to decide whether I want to take the risk or not. I already decided to take a risk and join this family,” Sadie lifted Jaxs’s chin so their eyes met, “After living with you for three weeks I can positively say that you are strong, courageous, loyal, caring, sweet, and gorgeous…never doubt you’re abilities…and if you need someone to remind you of that…I’ll be here.” Sadie said and closed the gap between them, her lips almost meeting Jaxs’s but then there was a knock on the door and the two moved apart quickly.
“What is it?” Jaxs called frustration in his voice.
“Hey, Jaxs, the shipments in and you need to sign off on it.” Tank’s voice came through the door. Jaxs looked at Sadie with pained eyes.
“What about dinner Jaxs? It’s ganna get cold.” Sadie asked looking over at the kitchen.
“Look, this won’t take but a minute, you get silverware and I’ll be quick.” Jaxs replied and kissed her on the forehead. And left the loft, Sadie sighed and stood up.
She finished setting dinner out and waited. Jaxs returned within 5 minutes, and the two sat down to a quiet dinner. Sadie let her gaze wander to Jaxs for brief moments. And she felt his eyes on her. When they’d finished, Jaxs took the dishes.
“I’ll take care of these.”
“Oh, thanks, I’m ganna take a shower and head to bed then.” Sadie said Jaxs nodded in reply and Sadie retreated to her room, and cursed silently. She fell onto her bed and fell asleep.

Over the next week, Jaxs was constantly busy with something or other, related to gang business. Sadie wondered if he was just trying to ignore her. She sat on the couch one night, waiting for him to come home. The clock read midnight, and she was getting worried. Her initiation was a the next day, and she was already nervous enough. She started cleaning up after the meeting Jaxs had earlier that day, and she sang quietly to herself.
The door banged open, and a beaten and burdened looking Jaxs walked through the door, his pistol still in his hand. Sadie ran over to him and he collapsed, she caught him quickly, thanking herself for the work out he’d been making her do.
She helped him towards his room. Pulling of his shirt and pants she helped him into bed, “Oh babes, what’d you do this time?” She asked quietly looking him over, luckily he was only bruised with a few minor scratches, but he did have a bad black eye. She went and grabbed an ice pack and headed back to Jaxs room, she sighed. She needed sleep for tomorrow, but Jaxs needed her help.
She pulled the chair next to the bed and sat down taking Jaxs hand.
“Sleeping in a chair again, Blue?” He asked weakly.
“Well, what other choice do I have?” She replied while a smile.
“Climb in with me,” Jaxs said moving over slightly, “You know I won’t do anything. Come on, you’ll sleep better.” he added seeing the hesitation on her face. She sighed and climbed in. Jaxs wrapped an arm around her shoulders and she laid her head on his shoulder. Jaxs fingers swept through her curls.
“Sadie, I’m glad you’re joining the gang. But I don’t want you to just be one of the girls. Ever since the night I saw you, there was something about you that intrigued me. I want you to be my girl, the one I’m seen with, and the one for me. I want to protect you more then anyone, I want to show you off. Will you?”
Sadie looked at him surprised at the sound of her real name; he’d always called her Blue. Sadie looked up at him; his eyes were desperate for something to keep him going as a leader. She smiled.
“Yes Jaxs, I’ll be your girl, but trust me you’ve bitten off more then you can chew.” She said sarcastically, Jaxs laughed.
“I like a challenge…keeps me on my toes.” He replied putting a finger under her chin and bringing her face level to his. “I’ll always keep you safe.” He said closing the gap giving her a gentle but intoxicating kiss. Sadie’s hand slid into his hair, and his arms wrapped around her waist. They broke off the kiss and Jaxs Smiled as if he’d won the lottery. Then they slipped off into their dreams in each others arms.

Sadie’s initiation was a big event; the entire gang was there, as well as ally gangs. Sadie held Jaxs’s hand the entire time as she pledged to stay true and fight hard. She was given the gang name Blue, and given her necklace which was a silver circle with horns and the letter B in the center. Jaxs then announced her place as his girl and good luck charm. She couldn’t stop smiling, she looked around the gang, she’d finally found a family she belonged to.
