The next day, I sat down for breakfast groggy and tired.

“Morning,” Sara said cheerfully, after biting into an apple.

“Yeah, morning,” I grumbled. Bahri and Vlad were already eating breakfast. I could tell by their conversation that they were wide awake

“Good morning,” Vlad said.

“Hey,” I yawned. I was fully awake now to see that Bahri was no longer hiding his eyes behind his hair. Just as I was about to open my mouth to speak, someone tapped me on my shoulder.

“Mister Tyler,” The headmaster said slowly. “I have something very important to tell you.”

“Sure,” I said glancing at the others. I was starting to get worried as he lead me to the hall. When the Headmaster and I were in the corridor, the Headmaster turned to face me with a grave look on his face.

“Tyler, there’s something I need to tell you.”

“Go on.”

“I’m very sorry but,” he paused trying to find the right way to put it. “Your mother loved you very much, you know that right?”

I began to shake as I said,” W-What happened to her?”

“Your mother was in a very bad car accident. She didn’t make it.”

“No,” I screamed. “N-no!” The Headmaster took me by my shoulders.

“I’m sorry, Tyler, I really am. What with all you’ve been through so far… Do you want me to call your sister for you?”

I couldn’t take it anymore. Tears streaked down my face. I was sobbing and wishing I could die.

“It’s not true,” I said hoarsely. “She’s not dead!”

“You and your friends are excused form class for however long you need it. When you get
back, the information you would have missed will be downloaded into your memories.”

“Thank you sir,” I sniffed. I turned and ran to the dorm and threw myself onto the bed letting the tears flow. Minutes later, Bahri slipped into the room. I didn’t notice him
until he placed a hand on my shoulder.

“You wanna sit down,” he asked quietly.

“Yeah,” I mumbled letting Bahri lead me over to his bed. He draped his arm around me and held me close.

“The headmaster told us what happened,” he said holding me tighter. “I’m really sorry.”

“It’s not your fault,” I said looking up into his eyes. “The news just makes me wanna die.” Sara burst into the room with Vlad right behind her.

“Ty,” Sara said before flinging her arms around me. “I’m so sorry, really I am.” Sara began to cry, her face buried into my chest.

Vlad sat down in a chair and waited for the commotion to stop. After Sara had stopped
crying, the clock hit 12:00. We all jumped as the clock bells chimed. That’s when I remembered about Bahri wanting to know my answer at lunchtime.

Vlad seemed to know what was going on, as he turned to Sara and said,” Why don’t we leave and let Tyler think?”

Sara turned toward me and asked,” is it okay, I mean, I don’t want to leave you but-”

“It’s okay,” I whispered. “Go.” She gave me a quick hug before patting her cell phone.

“Give me a call if you need anything.”

Vlad gave Bahri a wink before ushering Sara out and closing the door behind them.
Bahri was staring at me as I nervously played with the bed sheets.

“What did you decide,” he whispered watching my hands. I looked at his face for a minute before I found the right words.

“Bahri, I don’t know what to do. I feel like this has to be one of the dreams. No one has ever shown such affection towards me other than my mother. God Bahri, it feels so real but-” I was cut off as Bahri’s lips found mine. I moaned as Bahri’s tongue licked
my lips. Bahri pulled back and looked at me.

“Tell me if you liked that.” I nodded not trusting my voice. He shook his head; I knew I had to speak.

“I liked it. Kissing you just seems.” At that Bahri smiled. He let me rest my head on his shoulder.

“You really are perfect,” Bahri whispered. I snorted in disbelief.

“You don’t agree? How can you not be perfect,” Bahri asked as he played with my hair.

“I’m the exact opposite of you,” I said stubbornly. Bahri chuckled as he tilted my head towards him. He brushed his lips against mine before moving a hand to rest at the small of my back.

“You still haven’t given me a reason,” Bahri whispered into my ear. I shivered as his breath tickled my ear.

“You remember when you asked if I ever thought about being another creature,” I asked slowly.

“Yeah,” Bahri responded confused. I let my fingers lightly make patterns on his arm.

“Do you remember the creatures I thought of?”

“A vampire or elf, what does this have to do with-?”

“I’m an elf,” I whispered interrupting Bahri. He looked into my eyes before he brought a hand to cheek.

“That’s what you meant by my opposite,” Bahri said stroking my cheek. A whimper passed my lips before I could stop it.

“We should probably go to sleep, Tyler,” Bahri said. His voiced sounded so far away. I yawned and nodded as I snuggled closer to Bahri.

I woke up early the next day to find Bahri sleeping soundlessly beneath me. Silently, I walked over to a mirror and checked my ears.

“Tyler,” a voice mumbled. I quickly turned around to see Bahri half awake and watching me.

“Did I wake you,” I asked. Bahri shook his head as I walked over to the bed. He yawned and wrapped his arms around my waist.

“What were you doing over there,” Bahri asked pulling me close. I leaned back against
him and sighed.

“My ears… changed,” I whispered. Bahri’s hand moved towards my ear. I sighed as he
lightly traced it.

“Tyler, we have to go to breakfast. People will think you died if you don’t,” Bahri said. I nodded as I turned to face Bahri.

“You can’t kiss me while we’re down there. I don’t feel comfortable enough to let people know about us.”

I got up and started to change into the school uniform. When I had taken off my clothes, I felt arms wrap around me.

“Could at least hold your hand under the table? I promise nothing else. Tyler, I have to be able to touch you in some kind of way. You’re my mate, even if you’re still hesitant about it, and being my mate means I need to be with you.” I slowly turned around to face Bahri.

“Tyler, it drove me insane when I could only see in my dreams. Now that I see you, I can’t help but get close to you. I’m scared Tyler.”

“I’m scared to Bahri. How do you think it felt when I lost my only caring parent? Before that, I nearly killed my sister because of your dreams.” Bahri tightened his
arms as I buried my face into his chest.

“Please stay strong Tyler. You know I can’t do this without you. Why don’t we just go down and get something to eat?”

I nodded but got distracted by Bahri’s hands on my back. He kept moving them in circles. Yawning, I went back changing into the school uniform. Bahri went over to his stuff and got dressed.

“Let’s get this over with. Sara usually sits where we sat for dinner,” I said as we made our way to the Great Hall. Bahri walked closely behind me, occasionally “bumping” into me.

When the Hall doors opened, I tried to go back but Bahri blocked the exit.

“Tyler you can do this. Remember that I’m here with you,” Bahri whispered in my ear.
Gathering my courage, I walked over to Sara and Vlad. They both smiled at me as Bahri and I sat down.

“How do you feel, Ty,” Sara asked lightly. Bahri’s fingers slowly curled around mine. I nodded as Vlad put together a meal for me.

“Thank you Vlad. I’m fine, just not 100% back yet,” I said starting to eat. Who should be up at my weakest hour? The thing called Bonnie, that’s who.

“Hi baby,” the slut said sitting on Bahri’s, my Bahri’s, lap. “What are you doing, hanging around these people?” Vlad winked at me before he stood up and took Bonnie’s hand.

“How about you escort me to your table?” Bonnie smiled then unexpectedly placed her lips on Bahri. Sara gasped, my jaw clenched, and Vlad looked unfazed. Bonnie slid off Bahri and lead Vlad away.

“I’m not hungry,” I mumbled walking to the hall door. Once the big doors closed behind me, I ran. My legs lead me back to the dorm where I fell on my bed and tried hard not to cry.

“What the hell does Bonnie want from me,” I groaned.

“Me,” Bahri’s voiced said from behind the door.

“Go away, Bahri. Run to Bonnie like you want to want too.”

“Tyler, don’t be ridiculous! I love you, not that excuse for a girl. God Tyler, this is… can I please come in?”

“Yeah what ever,” I said. I heard the door open and close.

“Tyler, please look at me,” Bahri pleaded. I rolled over so that I faced the wall, my back to Bahri.

“Tyler, you must feel it too. You must feel how I feel about you,” Bahri whispered near my side. I slowly turned to face Bahri.

“What if I said I do feel it?” Bahri smiled and grabbed my hand. He placed it over his heart.

“Do you feel my heart beat? It beats with yours.” I gasped as Bahri’s hand snuck under my shirt and over my heart. “Tyler, we were meant for each other since birth,” Bahri said before he captured my lips in a kiss. He moved onto of me and let his hands roam my chest.

“Bahri,” I moaned as Bahri began nipping at my neck. He ground his hip against me getting a moan in response.

“Bahri, I-I can’t continue,” I gasped as Bahri nibbled at a sensitive spot on my neck.

“Sorry,” Bahri whispered as he moved off of me. I grabbed his hand and kissed it.

“I just… I don’t think I’m ready for this,” I said slowly looking down in shame.
Bahri gave me a kiss before he pulled back. I watched as he closed his eyes and sighed.

“Tyler,” Bahri moaned. He opened his eyes and took a step back. “I… god…I got carried away. Sorry Tyler, really I am.”

“Bahri, I understand,” I whispered. He smiled slowly before grabbing my hand.

“You are so… different. Back home, I would have been… well, I wouldn’t be forgiven.”

“Back home,” I repeated slowly. Bahri nodded slowly. He had never spoken of home before.

“Were exactly is home for you,” I asked slowly. Bahri watched me closely. He sighed before he kissed my forehead.

“I’ll tell you when the time is right,” Bahri whispered before he kissed my forehead. I sighed but grabbed Bahri’s arm when he tried to move.

“Please lie down with me. I don’t know why, but I sleep better with you next to me. The… dreams don’t haunt me with you here,” I mumbled scooting to make room for Bahri.

“What dreams,” Bahri asked as he slipped underneath me. I snuggled closer to him and rested my head against Bahri’s chest.

“Just dreams,” I said trying to act like it was nothing. Bahri wrapped his arms around me and pulled me closer.

“Please tell me, Tyler. I want, no need, to help you,” Bahri said into my ear. I shivered before I closed my eyes.

“Bahri,” I whispered. “Have you ever been sent a picture through your mind?”

“No, I haven’t,” Bahri answered. I smiled as I tried to find a part of my dreams that wouldn’t scare him.

I was running as fast as I could. Someone was yelling behind me but I still ran. Glancing back, I saw my father running after me.

“I’m gonna kill you this time, you little shit,” he screamed as I tripped over a rock. I hit the ground hard, but Father hit me harder.

“That’s the last time I’m leaving you unattended,” Father said punctuating each word with a smack across my face. I screamed but I knew no one could hear me.

“Someone, help me,” I screamed. Father laughed as he pulled me up by my hair.

“No one can help you now, not even your filthy mother,” he snarled punching me in the gut. I fell to the ground and whimpered when Father kicked me.

Tears ran down my cheek as I sent the memory to Bahri. I felt him tighten his hold on me and knew he was watching it.

“Why didn’t you tell me,” Bahri whispered. I didn’t respond just pressed my tear covered face closer to Bahri.Bahri held me close as I silently cried. His words that he whispered somehow lulled me to sleep.
