Ch. 2
Ariana Kellson

“Is it true, Francine? Did someone really move into the old McRanden place?” Ariana
Kellson asked her best friend, Francine Mason.

The two college students were in Ariana’s bedroom. Ariana was working on the plot of one of her plays that she volunteer to do for her Theatre group. Francine was the costume designer and a major in design.

“Yes, it’s a young woman from the looks of it. She doesn’t look too much older than us. Since we’re neighbors, my mother plans to make her apple pie for her and visit her later today. That’s why I am over here. To see if you want to come.” Francine told her.

Francine was 5’3” with short raven black hair that was naturally curly. Her eyes will honey brown.
Ariana’s hair hadn’t changed much since her younger years. It was still golden blond and had a hint of curl in it. Her eyes were the envy of the college for they were silvery gray.

“Yeah, sure! Just let me finish this next scene and we’ll head.” replied Ariana.

“That’s what you said 15 minutes ago. You always have your head in the clouds Ari.” giggled

Francine.

“Well, I still know when I am suppose come down to earth. Okay I am done. Let me get changed real quick.”

Francine laughed as Ariana quickly changed into proper clothing for she was still in her pajamas. Francine and Ariana had been friends ever since Ariana came to Brensdale. Ariana had been 8 at the time and had no memory of her past. Ariana was withdrawn and shy at first but Francine pulled her out of her wall flower personality. Ariana often expressed her desire to find her biological family but had no clue where to start.

“Okay I am ready.”

“Let’s go than!”

As the two go downstairs, Mrs. Kellson was getting ready to make lunch.
“Mother, I am going out with Francine. I’ll be back soon! Don’t expect me for lunch.” Ariana told her.
“That’s okay honey. You two have fun.”

Anyone could tell that Ariana wasn’t the Kellson’s biological daughter. For one thing, the family was African American. Mrs. Kellson had had 4 boys but wanted a girl. When they learned that they couldn’t have anymore children by birth, the looked at adoption. Ariana might had been Caucasian, but the Kellsons fell in love with her instantly. Ariana didn’t care that she looked different from her adopted family. All that mattered was that they loved each other. Her older brothers had all moved out now.
“I wonder what your new neighbor is like?” Ariana asked.

“We’ll just have to wait and see.”

The two jumped into Francine’s jeep.

“This really is sweet of you Mrs. Mason.” Calista replied as she took the apple pie into her kitchen to put it up.Calista was glad that she didn’t use too much of her magic to get everything fixed up. Besides, she actually enjoyed doing manual labor. At the moment though, she wasn’t looking her best for she was wearing an old pair of jeans and old shirt. She was painting at the moment when her new neighbor came by.

“I am sorry about the mess too.”

“It’s no trouble dear. I expected that you would be doing something to the place.” Mrs. Mason
grinned, a matronly woman with black hair that held a few gray strands.

“Here, let me clean some of this up so we can sit down.”

Calista moved a few things and they sat down on the couch in the living room. A few minutes later they heard a car driving up and a knock on the door.

“Now I wonder who that could be.” Calista replied before standing up and opening the door.

“Hi there!! My name is Francine Mason! I believe my mother is here.” Francine grinned.

“Why yes. You certainly look like her daughter.” Calista smiled back.

She saw that someone was behind Francine, but couldn’t get a good look at her.

“Who’s your friend?” Calista asked.

“Oh! Ari! Come on out, she’s not going to bite.” Francine said, pulling Ariana forward.

It took all of Calista’s willpower not to gasp or cry. It was her sister! She knew she was eventually going to see her, but not this soon. And she looked exactly like their mother. Ariana herself looked surprised. It was almost like looking into a mirror, only the woman before her had platinum hair that was up in a handkerchief and gold eyes. Not to mention when she saw Calista, she saw flashes of her distant past.

“Hello! Ariana!! Earth to Ariana!” replied Francine waving a hand in front of Ariana.

“Oh! I am sorry.” replied Ariana.

“It’s quite all right. Would you two like to come in?” Calista asked.

“Yes thank-you.”

The two followed Calista inside her house. Ariana looked around and saw that the lady was still
unpacking.

“I thought I heard you Francine. You need to pipe down that voice of yours young lady.” replied Mrs. Mason, but she couldn’t hide her grin.

“Hehe, I am sorry mother.” giggled Francine.

Francine sat down in an armchair but Ariana remained standing.

“Do you want to sit down?” Calista asked.

“No thanks. Oh! I am sorry. My name is Ariana Kellson.”

“Nice to meet you, Ariana. My name is Calista Dawson.”

“Wait, a minute. You’re Ms. Dawson? My new literature professor?”

Ariana was shocked.

“Hehe, yes, I am her. We’re you expecting an middle aged woman with glasses?”

“Uh, yeah. I am sorry! You just look young.”

“Ha ha! I am 26 years old so yes, I am young.”

“Um, excuse me for interrupting but I got say, you two look so alike!” commented Francine.

“Yes, it is interesting. You two could be sisters.” agreed Mrs. Mason.

Boy, those two really hit the mark, thought Calista. She knew it would be a matter of time before they learned that they were sisters.

“Well, ladies, we should get going. I am sure Ms. Dawson has a lot to get done.” Mrs. Mason said as she stood up.

“You are welcomed over here any time. I enjoy the company. And I shall be looking forward to

seeing more of you too Ms. Kellson.” Calista replied escorting them out the door.

“Please, call me Ariana.”

“Than you must call me Calista, when were not at college that is.”

“All right. See you soon.”
