Chapter 3
A Lesson in Nocturna
Torin closes the door and walks down the stairs to the front desk. A petite Feral girl with piercing violet eyes looks up at him.
“Yes? Oh hi, how can I help you?”
Before Torin can answer, older male Feral approaches the desk from behind and reprimands the girl in their language. She whimpers softly and leaves the area through a back door.
“My apologies Master Torin, she’s my daughter and is learning the trade. I am Lynkz, the transaction manager. One moment while I locate your file.”
He opens a large book with all present and past transactions. He flips a few pages until he comes to Torin’s name.
“Ah yes, Master Torin San Ra`jen. How long did you wish to extend your stay with us?”
Torin is distracted by a female Nocturna who was lounging in a large chair in the corner of the room. Normally, he has absolutely no interest whatsoever in females of his own kind, but what the Nocturna was doing completely held his attention.
The Nocturna female’s game was quite intricate, though incredibly cruel. She had a young Human’s fingers interlaced within her own and was asking him questions in Nocturna. The young male clearly could not speak or understand the Nocturna language and would respond incorrectly. For every wrong answer, the female shook her head in negation then proceeded to tear a tendon in his hand. It was obvious they had been playing this game for quite a while, as both of the Human’s feet were bloody and bandaged, and his right hand was a mess as well. Ironically, the Human seemed to be thoroughly enjoying their game. Every time the Nocturna would tear a tendon the Human would simply close his eyes, exhale, then reopen them and smile up at her. A slight tap on the desk brings Torin out of his daze.
“Excuse me Master Torin?”
Torin turns back to Lynkz with a puzzled smile.
“I apologize. What was it you asked?”
Lynkz glanced at the scene in the lobby, then back at Torin.
“How long did you wish to extend your stay?”
“Ah, two days and nights.”
As Lynkz totals up the figures Torin’s gaze returns to the game. The Nocturna had completely destroyed the young Human’s hand, and was licking the dripping blood off his fingers. The Human was incoherent with pleasure; clinging to the Nocturna and making small gasping sounds into her gown. Lynkz clears his throat softly to get Torin’s attention once more.
“Pardon me once more Master Torin, that will be two thousand credits.”
Torin grunts in response, lays his card on the desk, and walks over to the Nocturna and her plaything. Torin quietly stepped next to the female’s chair and watched closely. The Nocturna stopped what she was doing and eyed him up and down questioningly.
“Problem?”
Torin switched on his most pleasing smile.
“No problem madam, I was simply fascinated by your little game.”
The Nocturna was not impressed.
“So glad I amuse you sir.”
Her voice is dripping with disdain.
The Nocturna turned away from him and returned to her game. Now, one thing that the Nocturna as a species can not and will not tolerate is not being treated with respect from the young. The female Torin was speaking to was at least 8 years his junior. Torin emitted a low growl and tried to speak to her once more, this time speaking in Archaic Nocturna.
“Pardonm`e child`re? Tr`i onc mo er`e.” (which means: Pardon me child? You may try again.)
He allowed his webbed, ebony wings to emerge. The Nocturna female looked up at him and sighs. She released her Human and stood up, her grey wings unfolding as well.
“Look Batman, neither seniority nor rank impresses me.”
She begins to growl low in her chest.
“And as I have learned, superiority is not gauged by age, however respect is due so let me explain. I chose not to involve you in my “game” as you called it because your presence in the game would have overwhelmed my Human, and caused him to lose control of his pain.”
At that moment, the Human came out of his semi trance and began to shake and cry. The female Nocturna glanced at him and bent down to draw the Human to her. The Human shied away from her and tried to hide behind the chair.
“You see? Now it will take me hours to get him calmed down.”
Torin simply stared at her in disbelief.
“You actually care for this Human?”
She looks up at him. “Of course not. However, I was enjoying myself. I don’t understand why you of all people care. I know how you and your family treat females of our kind. I swear, just because female Nocturna are losing the ability to carry our young to term, you krit’ anas (freaks in Nocturna) think you can populate Crymsontrio without us. Mixing with male Seraphim, that’s just so disgusting. I’ve heard about your little silan (bastard) with Sataniel. First mix breed since the Separation of the specie huh? And now your trul(whore)of a brother is carrying two? Tell me, if you’re so happy repopulating Crymsontrio, why are you here?
Torin tries to say something but she interrupts him.
“No. Don’t you interrupt me you krit’ ana!!! As I was saying, you have made it obvious that you have no interest in our kind whether as friends or otherwise, so kindly leave me alone lest I embarrass you.”
At that, the young female folds her wings down, scoops up her torn Human, and proceeds to walk away from Torin. Every eye in the Inn was upon him and he was not finished with her yet. As she walks past him he reaches out and roughly grabs her by the wing and pulls her backwards, effectively knocking her down. The Human goes flying across the room, howling in pain when he lands on his torn feet.
He tries to stand up and run from Torin, but Torin grabs him by his rather long hair and drags him back. He places his foot on the female’s chest and holds her down. She looks up at him, growling and throwing various curses in his general direction. Torin merely steps down on her ribcage to shut her up. She claws at his foot, gasping audibly. Torin calmly returns her gaze.
“I meant you no ill will when I asked you about your game with this Human.”
He shakes the Human slightly to emphasize his words.
“I did not deserve a verbal attack, but your age was a beacon in the way you spoke to me, and therefore you will be punished. If I knew your kin, I would request that they dispose of such an insolent child. However, as you have just projected to me that you are an orphan, I will take matters into my own hands.”
Torin glanced at Lynkz across the room.
“Is this Human of any use to you?”
Lynkz shook his head.
“No, the cost to have the damage repaired is more than his worth here. However, if you are going to kill him you must pay for him.”
In one fluid move, Torin puts his foot through the Nocturna’s chest, crushing her heart and killing her instantly. He removes his gore encrusted appendage and looks at the young Human with a wicked smile.
“I don’t recommend that you meddle in the affairs of Nocturna’s anymore little boy.”
The young Human shakes his head violently and babbles his agreement.
“Come by the room at the top of the stairs in 2 hours and I’ll fix your hands and feet.”
Torin releases the Human and walks to the front desk once more.
“The fee is of no importance to me. Clean this mess up and do not let a word of this escape your lips. Extend my time to two days and nights, if I wish for more I will notify you.”
Torin takes his card back, slips it into his wallet and walks upstairs.
*What you think? Torin's got a hell of a temper no?
Please review, and dont worry bout being gentle, flames welcome (this is my 1st fic as I said and I welcome the criticism.) If any more insight about Crymsontrio is needed or desired tell me, and I'll put it in.
