Chapter Twenty-eight:


“Marcus, we will be leaving in ten minutes. Will you be ready by then?” Maya asked his friend.

“Of course,” Marcus answered.

“Then I'll see you in ten minutes,” said Maya. He then returned to the side of the demon king who by now was asleep with their son Urian.

The demon king had been taking care of their little son, refusing to let both him and Maya out of his sight. It took a bit of effort for him to convince the demon king to let him bathe in the stream earlier that day with Marcus. He and Marcus bathed and discussed their plan to leave their sons with their fathers so that they could keep their promise to Alistair to rescue Dan. They both knew that their sons would be safe with Cain and the demon king. Maya smiled and went down on his knees to give Urian and the demon king each a soft kiss on the cheek. He reached over to the other side and grabbed what he needed. Then he stood up and walked away to wait for Marcus.

Marcus arrived in exactly ten minutes. He had just whispered a goodbye to his son and Cain. He gave Maya a small smile and Maya returned his smile. They both climb on their horses and quietly rode off into the night. They had been riding for about an hour when they heard the sound of horses galloping towards them. Then they heard a familiar voice calling out to them to wait.

“Wait up you two idiots!” Anthony yelled as he came galloping towards Marcus and Maya.

“You can't leave us out of this Maya!” Saria yelled as he caught up to Anthony. “We are your friends and no matter what you say, we are coming with you!” Saria added when he and Anthony reached the boys.

Both Maya and Marcus smiled. “Are you two sure you want to come with us?” they both asked their friends.

Anthony answered first. “Of course I'm sure. Besides, you need me to lead you to Lord Ramsey’s castle. I am the only one who knows exactly where it is,” he said.

Saria answered next. “ I want to go with you Maya, you are my friend and I can't let you go alone.”

Maya turned to Marcus. “It looks like we have no choice but to let them come along Marcus,” he said, finally agreeing to let their friends join them.

“Yes Maya you are right,” Marcus agreed with a laugh, then everyone joined him.

“Anthony, I am going to kill you!” they all heard Gareth yell out loud before they saw him galloping towards them, looking like he was about to murder someone. Maya, Marcus and Saria knew exactly who Gareth wanted to murder, they directed their eyes to Anthony.

“Gareth! How nice of you to join us,” Anthony said with a grin, not worried at all that Gareth looked like he was going to strangle him any minute now.

"You! Do you know how worried I was when I woke up to find you gone?" Gareth said. The anger in his voice could be heard loud and clear.

“Of course I know Gareth, but my friends need me,” replied Anthony.

“What about me the father of your unborn child? Aren't I important to you as well?” Gareth asked Anthony.

“Of course you are silly man! That is why I knew deep in my heart that you would wake up and come looking for me,” Anthony answered with a warm loving smile this time. Then he reached over to Gareth and cupped his face with both his hands. He leaned over to Gareth and gave him a long passionate kiss. He calmed Gareth down with that kiss. He pulled away with a smile still on his face.

“I am still furious with you boy, but I will save the lecture and punishment for later,” said Gareth.

Anthony and his friends laughed. Then Maya announced that they should get going. Everyone agreed and soon they were off to Ramsey’s castle with only Gareth to protect them, or rather Gareth was with them to protect Anthony, they all thought silently as they rode away.

The demon king wasn't at all happy to wake up and find Maya gone. Cain felt the same as his king, and so did Jarrett. "Be ready in five minutes! We are going after them before they get themselves killed,” the demon king ordered.

Jarrett and Cain were ready in two minutes, not wanting to waste any time. They were both very worried about the people they loved. Vince climbed onto his horse and rode towards his demon king, "Gareth is with them and that will make it easier for us to find them,” said Vince.

The demon king nodded his head. With one arm holding on tight to his son, he urged his horse forward and rode ahead. He vowed to give Maya a good spanking for attempting something like this. Cain was just worried and Jarrett vowed to beat some sense into Saria when he found him.

Maya and Marcus had finally arrived at Ramsey’s castle along with Anthony and Saria. All four slid off their horses. Anthony ordered Gareth to wait outside and Gareth reluctantly agreed. The four looked at each other then looked up at the stone castle in front of them. "Are you ready guys?" Maya asked his friends. They all nodded, and with out further delay, they all walked over to the castle. The door opened without them having to knock. It was like Ramsey had been expecting them. Without hesitation, all four of them entered the castle.

“Welcome to the Phoenix King’s castle,” the guard greeted them. They lifted their heads and bowed to Maya. “Welcome home our prince,” the guard added in a respectful tone and manner.

Maya didn't bother to comment on how the guard had greeted him. He just walked past them with his three friends by his side. He knew that they all had a question to ask him. “Ramsey is my father if you must know,” he answered their silent question.

“Maya, you are not going to kill your father are you?” Marcus asked.

“Only if I have to Marcus, I hope it doesn't come to that,” replied Maya, and he meant every word he said. He didn't want to kill the man who was responsible for bringing him into this world. However he also could not allow that man to hurt the one person he had care for and loved since he was small. As far as he was concerned, Dan was the only parent he had. As for his blood father, he felt nothing for him. After all how could he care for a father he had never met or known about till now?

A guard came and showed them to the waiting room. “Please wait in here,” said the guard, “King Ramsey will be here shortly.”

“Where is he?” Maya asked.

“He went out a few hours ago and should be back soon,” the guard answered, then he left them alone to wait for Ramsey.

The door to the waiting room swung open one hour later to reveal Ramsey who entered the room with a smile on his face. He stopped in front of Maya. “I'm glad to finally get to see you up close Maya,” he said softly.

“I'm glad to finally meet you also Father, but I wish I could have met you under different circumstances,” Maya said dryly. His father looked exactly like he did in his dreams, he thought.

Ramsey just smiled at his son. Then he turned his attention to Anthony, “Is the tall grumpy demon outside my castle your husband, Anthony?” he asked Julian’s son.

“Yes Lord Ramsey, I hope you don't mind him being there,” Anthony answered in a bitter tone with a bitter smile on his face.

“I see what he claimed is true,” Ramsey then turned his attention back to his son. “Maya, do you know that right now with Anthony’s husband, your beloved Demon King and his fellow guards have surrounded my home with every intention of killing me if I bring harm to you and your friends here in any way?” he announced to them all.

They all smiled brightly at that news. They knew that their loved ones would follow them but they just never thought that they would get there on the same day as them. Maya looked up at his father, “I don't want to waste any more time Father so let’s cut to the chase. Let my dad go. Alistair is dead, there is no reason for you to keep him here.” Maya broke the news about Alistair’s death to his blood father.

“What if I refuse to let Dan go? What will you do my son?” Ramsey asked, wanting to know what his son would do if he refused to let Dan go.

“I'll have to kill you Father, don't make me do it,” replied Maya.

"You would kill your own father just to keep a promise you made with Alistair?" Ramsey asked amused.

“No, not for Alistair. For Dan my dad, the only person who was there for me ever since I was a baby. I love him like he is my real parent.” Maya felt like he didn't need to add anything further to his explanation.

“I see, then I made the right decision to give you to him to raise. Dan is a great man, a wonderful friend to me. Now that Alistair is dead, there is no need for me to keep him here. You may return to the demon king’s castle with him.”

“Thank you Father, although I must admit that I thought that you were going to make it difficult,” Maya admitted to his father.

“It would not be this easy to get Dan back if Alistair were with you Maya, that I can guarantee. I was after Alistair’s life not Dan’s. I only kept Dan here because I knew how much Alistair loved him, and I knew what Alistair would do just to get him from me. Now that he is gone I have no use for Dan.” With that said, Ramsey left the room.

"Maya, I never wanted to kill anybody as much as I wanted to kill that man!” Saria spoke out loud.

Maya laughed, “I know what you mean Saria, but what can I do, he is my father and I am just glad right now that I don't have to kill him. My dad would be furious with me if I did."

"I say that it would better for your dad to get furious with you than to have a person like that man live. Damn, I have never seen a man treat his friend like how he treated your dad Maya. I thought that friends were supposed to be like you and me. Like Marcus and Anthony. Your father gives the term “friends” a bad meaning!" Saria ranted.

“Yes I know Saria,” Maya agreed with his friend.

Anthony suddenly raced towards the door. “Damn it that bastard Ramsey forgot to tell me where my dad was!” Anthony said. Marcus, Maya and Saria followed Anthony. They figured that if anyone knew where Dan was, it would be Julian, Anthony’s dad.

Julian was pacing around his room, muttering curses loudly to himself. He almost jumped out of his skin when the door to his chamber flew open.

“Dad!” Anthony called as he raced towards his dad and hugged him tightly.

Julian returned his son’s hug, then he pulled away to look directly at Marcus and Maya and Saria. “Marcus, how nice to see you. How have you been?” he asked the boy who he remembered to be very clumsy but also adorable. The last time he had seen Marcus was three years ago.

“Hi Uncle Julian,” Marcus greeted Anthony’s father. “I'm doing great. I am a dad now, believe it or not,” he added shyly with a blush.

Julian went over to the boy and hugged him tight. "Your baby is lucky to have you as a dad Marcus. Ian must be happy as well with the baby,” Julian commented not knowing that Marcus and Ian had separated.

“Umm... Uncle Julian, the father of my child is not Ian, it’s Cain, he is a wolf demon.” Marcus told the man in a gentle voice.

“Well then, Congratulations to you and Cain! I wish you and your family happiness Marcus because you deserve it just like your dad,” said Julian. Then he realized that he had just let it slip that he knew who Marcus’ dad was. He saw the big shocked eyes looking at him.

“Dad do you know who Marcus’ parents are?” Anthony asked his dad, excited for his best friend.

Julian had no choice except to admit the truth. “Yes, I do know who Marcus’ parents are. In fact, his dad is here in the castle as well,” Julian told them.

“Then let’s go look for him after we find Maya’s dad,” Anthony suggested to them all.

Everybody agreed. Julian looked at his son. “Maya is here?” he asked. He had never met Maya before so he did not know which one of the boys in front of him was Maya.

“I am Maya,” Maya introduced himself to the man.

“I should have realized that it was you. You look so much like your mother,” Julian commented with a sad look in his eyes.

“Thank you,” Maya said to the kind man.

Julian smiled. “Alright follow me. I will take you all to meet a friend of mine.” With that said, he went out of the room and headed straight towards Dan’s room.
