Don't Leave Me

Sara woke up when she heard a noise and looked over to the area Kylie’s cot would have normally been. “Kylie? Are you awake?” She got no reply, so she sat up and noticed that her cot had been moved. She looked forward and as she did, her eyes widened and she started screaming. “RYAN! RYAN! RYAN!” She screamed it over and over. She got on the cot and tried to unknot the sheet, but she was shaking too badly.

Ryan stormed down the stairs and yelled, “What the fuck is it?” As he neared the cell, he noticed Kylie’s limp body hanging from the bars. He immediately unlocked it and was able to bring Kylie’s body down.

Greg had come down not too much later than Ryan had in case one of the girls had gotten sick again. When he saw Ryan holding a body in his arms, he immediately said, “Oh my God.” He rushed over to where they were at and was surprised to see that it was Kylie he was holding. He tried to feel her pulse, but there was none there.

“She hung herself,” Ryan told him with a calm voice in which he was trying to mask how he really felt.

“She’s gone Ryan.”

Sara just kept looking at the body and started crying. “Kylie…Kylie…wake up…Please wake up…” Her body started to convulse and Greg grabbed her and held her to him. “No! Wake her up! Wake her up!” She kept yelling out over and over again.

“Sara, listen to me!” Greg shouted trying to get through to her. “She can’t hear you. She’s dead okay?”

“No she’s not! She wouldn’t leave me! She wouldn’t! She’s not dead, so just shut up!”

Neither Ryan nor Greg reprimanded her for talking back. She went slack in Greg’s arms. As Ryan was holding Kylie’s body, he suddenly felt movement. Her chest was rising and falling, shortly, but she was breathing. Ryan’s eyes widened and he put his hand over her wrist. “It’s weak, but Greg her heart just started beating again.”

He stood up with her in his arms, and Sara moved out of Greg’s. “She needs to get to the hospital,” Greg told him.

Ryan carried her out, and as Greg began to leave the cell to lock it up, Sara grabbed on to his arm. “I want to come! Please let me come!”

Taking a deep breath, Greg looked at her strongly. “You can’t come right now. We’ll call here when we know something.” He finished locking the cell and ran outside to meet Ryan. He jumped in the back in the car, and rested Kylie’s head on his lap, and then Ryan drove off at a wicked speed.

Greg had called Dr. Houle on their way to the hospital and told him what happened. He said he would meet them there as soon as possible. When they arrived, she was rushed in the emergency room and an oxygen mask was immediately placed over her nose and mouth. A heart monitor was added as they took her blood pressure, pulse and oxygen levels. All were critically low. An IV was added in her left hand.

Dr. Houle entered the room. “Do you have any idea why this would happen all of a sudden?” Ryan did not say anything. He was pretty sure he knew. Dr. Houle just nodded knowing that they wouldn’t say.

“When she stabilizes, I’m going to need to run a CT scan and an MRI. With lack of oxygen, there’s a major possibility of brain damage.”

Ryan nodded. “That’s fine.”

Both Greg and he remained in the room before they found her stable enough to be moved on to the floor. She was put in the same private room as last time. Ryan tried talking to her, but he never received a response. When he touched her arm, her body didn’t react at all. He sighed. “Dammit Greg! She gave us plenty of warning signs! Why the hell didn’t we notice?”

Greg shook his head. “I don’t know.”

An RN came in the room and said that she was going to take Kylie in so the scans could be done. Ryan said it was fine and followed her out as she pushed Kylie’s bed down the hall.

The room was on the other side of the hospital, and when they reached there, Ryan asked if he could go in. She said that it was fine. While the CT scan was taking place, he held Kylie’s hand. It was warming up. The scan took around thirty minutes to complete. There were two types that had to be done, one without IV dye and one with it.

Next was the MRI. The MRI took a little longer, but Kylie’s body was still the whole entire time. Ryan still stood in the room near her.

The tests were immediately looked at, and Dr. Houle came to her room to tell Ryan and Greg the results. “She has cerebral hypoxia.”

“What the hell is that,” Ryan asked.

Greg answered the question. “It’s a condition to where there is a decreased amount of oxygen to the brain. One of the causes is strangulation.”

“How do you treat it?”

“We’ll keep an eye on her oxygen levels, blood pressure and heart rate. She’s in a coma Ryan,” Dr. Houle said carefully.

Rushing up to him, Ryan grabbed the doctor by the throat and lifted him up. “What do you mean she’s in a fucking coma?” he shouted. Dr. Houle’s hand reached up to Ryan’s arm as his own oxygen supply decreased. Ryan let him go. “I’m sorry.”

“I know you’re upset,” he told Ryan, “but I’m doing what I can.”

“When will she wake up?”

“That’s up to her. I must warn you though, when she does wake, there’s a possibility of her developing amnesia.”

“You mean she wouldn’t remember anything?”

“Not necessarily. It’s possible that she may remember most things and forget others, particularly recent events.”

Greg then spoke, “Are you going to do a Glasgow Coma Scale?”

“Of course,” Dr. Houle answered. “I was actually just about to do that now.” He stepped over to where Kylie was lying unconscious on the bed and talked in a louder voice. “Kylie, it’s Dr. Houle. Can you hear me sweetheart? Can you blink your eyes for me?” There was no response. He then tried a simple pinch on her arm. Her eyes didn’t open to that either. “There’s a one.” He turned to Ryan. “Has she said anything or have you heard any sound from her?”

Ryan shook his head. “No.”

“She doesn’t have any motor response either.”

“So what does that mean?”

“She’s in a deep coma right now. There’s a possibility it will lighten in a few days. I’ll have the nurse keep watch over her to see if she notices any eye movement or sounds.”

“I’m not leaving,” Ryan said matter-of-factly.

Dr. Houle nodded. “That’s fine.”

Grabbing his cell phone, Greg informed, “I’m going to call Brad.” He then walked into the hall, and Dr. Houle followed him.

Ryan sat in the chair next to the bed and just watched Kylie’s chest rise and fall. He knew he caused it. He saw the signs, and he should have done something. He just never thought that she would ever think of something like killing herself. He would never let himself believe that he actually cared about her though. She was just his property. That was all. He ended up working himself into a rage and stood saying something harshly before leaving the room. “You fucking bitch.”

He took himself outside and stepped off of the hospital premises before taking out a cigarette and placing it in his mouth and lighting it. “Dammit.”

------------------------------------

A/N: Do you really think I would let Kylie kill herself? I like her too much for that at the moment. =P

This story will now be written in third person for a while since Kylie obviously can\'t write in her journal being in a coma. And as this is real time, there will now be random updates instead of every night like usual, so you will have to keep checking back. I will tell you that I\'m posting another chapter tonight (July 31) and after that, don\'t expect any for one to two weeks. I know it\'s a long wait, but as I said, this is written in real time. I\'ve been having to do a lot of research, too, so I get all the medical stuff correct.

Thanks for the reviews, and let me know what you think now about this chapter!

I love you all!
