Chapter 26- Angel versus Demon: Jessica Stands Tall

Another chapter filled with action... Yup, you guessed it, a fight scene! Huh? Sex? Oh well... that's later... yeah.

The following chapter is to show that yes, women CAN kick ass. I know.

Chapter 26

Jessica and Hieas stood across from each other, waiting for the other to make a move, to strike. Jessica held her staff tightly in her right hand, while Hieas gripped the handle of his battle axe that was attached to his back. Suddenly, Hieas lunged foward, withdrawing his axe and striking down. Jessica moved to the side to dodge, but Hieas dragged his weapon through the ground, before sending it into an upwards arc, launching bits of rock at his opponent.

"Ice Wall!" Jessica created a large wall of ice, which the rocks struck. The force was enough to crack the ice, but not break through, as the rocks suddenly froze and became chucks of ice. Pressing her hand to the back of the wall, Jessica focused her magic into it. "Hail Storm!" The wall began to break apart, sending large chucks of ice toward Hieas. In response, he lifted his axe and brought it slamming down, forcing up the earth directly in front of him, setting himself a natural protection to the ice much like Aivon's 'Earth Wall' spell.

"Not bad, angel. I commend your effort." Hieas straightened up, his axe resting against the ground. "But you lack what it truely means to be considered a warrior and fighter. As an angel, you know all about death. But you've never had to kill before... not even a demon." Hieas' grip on the handle and readied himself to charge.

Jessica stayed silent through Hieas' talk. True, she had never really fought much before, but she did believe in herself. John always did, and he came out on top, but for once she thought that maybe that wouldn't be enough. No matter what Hieas said, one thing was true about her. She was no fighter. That still didn't make her defenseless though. Raising her staff, Jessica shouted "Ice Knife!" causing the air to chill as ice needles appeared.

As the needles rained down, Hieas raised the hand that wasn't holding his axe. "Aqua Shield!" The ice shattered as it connected with Hieas' barriar. When he was certain he was safe once more, he let it disappear. "Hmph. Look at yourself, angel. You don't posses the will to kill me."

"Who are you to say I'm incapable of killing someone?" Jessica breathed almost silently, yet still loud enough so that her opponent could hear.

"Oh, it's not a quest of if you can do it. No, I suppose deep inside anyone can kill another. The real question is, would you do it? Could you ever bring it upon yourself to permanently end the life of someone, even if you don't know him or her?" Jessica remained silent, thinking it over. "You see. Despite your abilities, despite all that's on the line, you yourself could never kill a person and not regret doing so. And that is why you will not survive this fight."

With that, Hieas charged again, his axe grazing against the ground, as he swung in an arc intent on slicing Jessica in half. She pulled back in time to avoid the attack, but Hieas raised his other hand as it came into position with Jessica's body. "Water Column!" The surge of water knocked Jessica back, the force lifting her feet off the ground as it caused her body to slam into the wall. A small dent was made due to the force of the water against the wall, as Jessica slumpped foward.

"Jessica!" John shouted, clearly intent on stopping the fight and taking over, had not Aivon gripped his shoulder to hold him back. "Aivon, let me go she needs our help!"

"John please wait. It's not over yet. Have faith in her."

Jessica eased herself back up, using her staff to support her body. "Look at yourself. So weak and pathatic. One attack and I've already left you powerless. No wonder you are of no use in battle. You simply just get in the way." Hieas smirked, enjoying his torment of the angel's mind.

Damn it... I know I've never been that great at fighting, but... She stood up, now holding her staff ready to continue fighting once more. Even though I'm not that powerful... and maybe I do lack the skill to be a fighter. But I'm not going to sit back and let John save me again... She looked to her husband, remembering how many times that Beras had used her to force John to submit. How much he went through to help her. I have a fight to win... and I will win it!

With new resolve and strength Jessica charged foward. "Oh, how surprising. You'd rather rush to your death. Then I'll make this quick!" Hieas shouted, rushing to her again. They met in the middle as Hieas swung his axe, Jessica her staff. Both weapons collided, and they pushed against each other. Quickly, Jessica focused her magic and ice began to form turning her weapon into a spear. The ice pushed quick, aiming straight for Hieas' face, who pulled back to aviod the frigid weapon. "So, it seems that you still have some tricks up your sleeve..."

Jessica coughed and felt something wet over her chin, and she reached to wipe it away, only to see blood. Her blood. She looked to it, and sudden realized just what this battle was about and what was truely at stake. Hieas would not let her friends interfere, he would see that she would die before that happened. Settling her resolve, Jessica readied with her new spear. There was no turning back.

"You stand again, determined... I wonder why. As an angel you were barred from killing, and even now you have never once killed or fought with all your strength." Hieas looked to her eyes, noticing how different they had become since their last encounter. Before where there was concern and fear now stood definace and perhaps, even power? "You can't kill me... because no matter how hard you try to shut off the feelings and emotions in your heart that would prevent you from commiting the act, the truth of the matter is that you don't want to shut them off. Because your afraid that doing so would forever destroy that which you once were."

Jessica said nothing as she readied her spear and charged foward, taking the initative. "Water Column!" But Jessica was ready this time, moving to the side and continuing her charge. She swung her spear, predictably enough, and Hieas dodged the strike, as well as the oncoming one afterwards. Gripping his axe, he slammed it down on the ground sending a shockwave that momentarily caused her to stop and give Hieas some breathing room.

"I've had just about enough of your little games, angel."

"Hmph. Let I guess it's about time to finish this, huh?"

"My thoughts exactly," Hieas remarked with a rather cruel expression. With that he began to focus his magic and soon water began to circle around his body. And while John could only wonder what was going to happen, Aivon already knew the outcome. He could still remember as it played back in his mind, the two elemental dragons and the damage they caused. "Water Dragon!"

John pulled back slightly, seeing the dragon-like head emerge, but Aivon stood calmly. Jessica, he noticed also seemed to not be fazed by the sheer size and power of this attack, even as it came towards her. "If you think I'm backing away, then your wrong!" With that, Jessica thrust out her spear, the ice 'blade' striking the head of the dragon, and for a moment, time seemed to freeze.

Of course, that was not all the froze. From the point of impact, the dragon immediately started to freeze up, starting from the head down the snake-like body and back to Hieas. Jessica immediately placed her hand on the ice dragon, and with a satisfying smirk, the ice shattered into thousands of shards, raining down on Hieas who covered himself best as he could with his arms, unable to cast a spell quick enough after a draining ability like that.

When he looked back up, he wa ssurprised to see Jessica already close and make a slashing motion. Hieas pulled back too late, the 'blade' of Jessica's spear leaving a gash across Hieas' chest. He could only clutch it as he pulled away, amazed that this little angel could actually harm him. The shock of the situation also hit both John and Aivon hard, though perhaps not so much as it did Hieas.

"Damn... gotten careless..."

Indeed. Hieas stopped for a moment, hearing the voice in his mind. Return. No sense in you dying to them... I have another way to rid them of our presence. With that being done, Hieas returned his axe to it's original position, securing it. Everyone else in the room was surprised at this action.

"I'd love to stick around and do more... but I'm afraid I must be off." With that, Hieas cast a teleport spell, vanishing from sight. Jessica could only try to even her breathing, staring at the spot where once stood her opponent. The spell of ice vanished from her staff as it fell to the floor with a loud clanging sound, her body soon following.
