Chapter twenty-six.


One month had gone by. Dan was miserable as hell, not to mention that he was also sick. He hated to admit it to himself but he missed Alistair. He never in his life thought that Alistair would leave him alone for this long. He made himself sick thinking of Alistair and worrying about him. Dan looked out the window of Ramsey’s room and waited to hear what Ramsey’s doctor had to say about his sickness. He turned to face the door as soon as he heard it open. He saw Ramsey’s happy face.

“We are going to have a baby Dan,” Ramsey announced.

“What? You can't be serious Ramsey, we only did it once and I don't even remember it. How can I be.. how far along I'm I?” he asked all at once, shocked beyond words.

“It doesn't matter how far along you are Dan. The fact is that you are carrying our child. Now get some rest, I will be back shortly.” Ramsey shut the door before Dan could say another word about the subject.

“You are one sly bastard. How could you lie to that man that you are the father of his child, when he was already pregnant with Alistair’s child when he came here? ”

“You should mind your own business boy!”

“Like hell I will! That man in there happens to be the man Alistair loves. I as his friend will not have you lie to...”

Ramsey shut the boy up with a brutal kiss. “Mind your own business boy or I will lock you up in your room with no food or water for an entire month. Understand Avery?” Ramsey warned in a threatening voice.

“Go to hell you bastard! I can't believe that someone like you could be the father of the fire phoenix boy. I wonder what your son Maya will have to say about your behavior once he finds out what you have done to Dan?” With that said, a very angry Avery stormed to his room, his mind thinking of plans to get himself and Dan out of Ramsey’s clutches.

Dan happened to overhear everything from inside his room. His feelings were in turmoil. He never expected that Ramsey would lie to him. He thought that they were friends. What else had Ramsey been lying to him about? Dan threw himself into bed and let his mind become filled with Maya and Alistair, the two people he wanted to see the most at this very moment. His hand went to his stomach. “Alistair,” he said silently.

As it happened, Dan was not the only one who heard Ramsey’s conversation with Avery. Julian had just returned. He was passing by Dan‘s room when he heard the conversation that stopped him from continuing further. He changed direction and went to confront Ramsey.

"Tell me that what I just heard was not true Ramsey?" Julian demanded loudly, his voice echoing throughout the hall.

“What you just heard is true Julian. I won't lie to you,” replied Ramsey.

Julian’s hand came up and slapped Ramsey so fast that Ramsey didn't even see it coming. “I thought that you were better than that Ramsey! Didn't you reassure me that you would not use Dan to hurt Alistair? Isn't Dan your friend? How could you do such a thing to him after all that he has done for you and your son? I can't believe how selfish you are. You better let him go or else...”

Ramsey punched Julian in the stomach so hard that it knocked Julian out instantly. He held his unconscious friend in his arms. “Sorry Julian, I can't do that. I will have to lock you up in your room until all of this is over,” he said in a low whisper as he carried the unconscious Julian away.

Maya screamed before he felt the pain. His scream woke the demon king up. The demon king took one look at Maya and shouted for his guards to get Alec. As for himself, he slid out of bed and went to fetch a basin filled with warm water and a cloth to wipe the sweat that had already started to run down the side of Maya’s face.

“Oh it hurts! I feel like I'm being ripped apart from the inside!” Maya cried out.

The demon king didn't know what to do in this kind of situation. He had never seen anyone gave birth before, and it scared him to think that Maya might die if things went terribly wrong. "Damn it, where is Alec?" he yelled out.

Alec came in at that very moment, “Oh God no!” he murmured.

“What do you mean by that Alec?” the demon king shouted.

“Maya could you hang in there for a bit? I have to help Marcus who is also in labor right now. His labor started two hours ago." Alec explained in a hurry.

Maya bit back his pain and nodded his head. He gripped the demon king’s hand tightly and shook his head as if he was reading the demon king’s mind. Alec hurried back to Marcus’ side with the demon king glaring at his back. What were the odds that those two would gave birth on the same day, he thought.

When Alec returned to help Maya, the boy had already given birth. The demon king was sitting beside the exhausted boy holding the baby in his arms. Maya’s little boy was a handsome little devil, with beautiful black hair and skin like snow, chubby cheeks and eyes the color of gold. They both looked up at him.

“How is Marcus?” Maya asked softly.

“Marcus is doing well. He has a healthy baby boy with big round eyes, rosy red cheeks and light black hair that could be mistaken as brown in sunlight. Right now he and Cain are resting. I must say that I'm really surprised that you two gave birth on the same night when you two were like two months apart.”

“What are the odds?” Maya agreed with a laugh.

“Alec, we have no use for you right now. Return to your room and tomorrow I want a word with you," said the demon king.

Alec nodded his head and left. He knew what his demon king wanted to talk to him about and he sure as hell wasn't looking forward to it.

The next day early in the morning Maya went with his newborn to visit Marcus. He was greeted by Cain who let him in before leaving him alone with Marcus. The sound of a baby crying greeted him when he entered Marcus and Cain’s bedroom. They didn't even get to say one word of greeting to each other before Alistair came barging in from out of nowhere and took Marcus’ baby as hostage.

“What the hell do you think you’re doing Alistair? Are you mad?” Maya yelled out. “Let Marcus’ baby go!”

“Don't worry. I won’t hurt him if you do as I say Maya,” said Alistair.

“What do you want from me?” Maya asked.

“I need your help to get Dan back and you are the only one who has power that is as strong as Ramsey.”

“I'll help you Alistair, just give the baby back to Marcus.”

“How do I know that you aren’t lying to me Maya?”

“Because Dan is my dad. If he is in trouble, then I will do everything I can to help him. He is the only parent I have left.”

“Alright I believe you Maya. I'll return the baby to you once you and I and him leave this place. The sooner the better.”

“You can't be serious. Marcus has nothing to do with this,” said Maya.

“You're right, but he and his son are perfect hostages for me to use against you. I will let him and his baby go once I have Dan back.”

“It’s fine Maya, I understand. I'll go with you and him,” Marcus uttered out in a low voice.

Somehow Alistair managed to get Maya and Marcus and both their babies out of the demon king’s castle without anyone seeing them. They walked long and hard for three days and nights, resting for only an hour or two to feed the babies. Maya and Marcus left to bathe in the river, leaving the babies with Alistair because Alistair refused to let them take their babies with them. When they returned, they both were surprised to see Alistair singing the babies to sleep. The look on Alistair’s face was one that they would never forget. Alistair was smiling warmly at both babies, a smile he never showed to anyone besides Dan.

“Gareth please tell me that your father is not serious about going to fetch my dad from Lord Ramsey.”

“Oh he’s serious alright boy. Once he has decided on something, he will do it even if he has to put his life in danger,” replied Gareth. He looked down to see the boy staring up at him with a frown. They were on their way to retrieve Julian, Anthony’s dad from Ramsey, whoever the hell that man was, Gareth thought.

“Could you two get a move on? We don't have all day!” Vince yelled out to his son Gareth and his lover boy.

"If I ride any faster than this, Anthony will throw up. You will just have to put up with our speed!” Gareth yelled back to his father.

Vince turned his horse around and waited for his son and his lover boy to reach him. "Anthony why don't you just draw me a map to this guy Ramsey’s place and I can fetch your dad myself? If we continue at your speed, we won't reach there till next year," he remarked.

“Then you will have to wait till next year to see my dad,” Anthony said with a grin.

Vince threw his head back and let out a roar of laughter. "You really are something boy, I like you. You have a good sense of humor just like your dad.”

"Why thank you for the compliment. Now why don't--" Anthony didn't finish what he wanted to say. His eyes landed on Marcus who was coming from the other direction. What were the odds that he would run into Marcus, he thought just before he called out to Marcus.

Marcus stopped walking when he heard his name being called. He spun around in time to see Anthony came galloping toward him accompanied by two men. When they got closer, he recognized one of them as Gareth. The man was sitting behind Anthony with his hand firmly on Anthony waist.

“Marcus I'm so happy to see you!” Anthony cried out when he reached him.

“Anthony how are you?” Marcus said nervously as he glanced up to look at Alistair.

“Alistair what are you doing here?” Vince asked, interrupting Marcus’ thoughts.

“You know each other?” Marcus, Maya and Anthony asked in surprise.

“Well, we both work for the demon king. Of course we know each other,” Vince answered their question.

“Where are you heading with the two of them Alistair? Does the demon king know that you took the fire phoenix boy with you?”

“No, and there is no need for him to know. I don't plan to hurt him or his friend,” replied Alistair.

“Then tell me where you are taking them!” Vincent didn't ask. He demanded an answer.

“Maya is going to help me get Dan back from Ramsey.”

A smile came on Vince’s lips. “Then we shall go together, since I'm heading there myself to retrieve the new love of my life from this man named Ramsey.”

"Who is the lucky man that has captured your heart Vince?" Alistair asked with little interest.

“Julian,” replied Vince.

“Julian, the cold beauty?” Alistair uttered in disbelief.

“Hey you! That is a very rude thing to say about someone’s dad,” Anthony said angrily.

“That cold beauty has a son your age? Now I'm really surprised,” Alistair commented.

“How the hell do you know my dad anyway?” Anthony snorted.

“It might surprise you boy but your dad and I were friends back then.”

Maya hated to interrupt the interesting conversation, but he was tired and his baby was starting to fidget in his arms. “I'm sorry to interrupt your lively conversation men but I need to feed my baby, and I'm sure that Marcus needs to feed his baby as well,” Maya laid it out to them.

Vince and Alistair agreed quickly that they would travel together. As soon as they came to that agreement, they set up camp and let Maya and Marcus take care of their babies. Anthony watched the two with interest, wanting to learn whatever he could about taking care of babies.
