chapter 26
posting what I have so far, will add more later. Please rate and review.
She had asked to return early on sunday, Josie, who had always tried putting off going back asked to go early. She was damn determined to talk to Brian, and the sooner the better she felt.
As soon as she got on center she went right to the dorms to drop off her things. Of course, Jackie and Lisa were in the room. Josie didn't say a word, didn't make eye contact, she just put her things in her closet and left.
Up on the hill she waited... And waited... And waited.
------------
"HE LEFT?!?!" Josie exclaimed over dinner, receiving several looks from surrounding tables.
"Yeah, on friday." Jay replied.
"We thought you hated him." Chris said, sounding like a child finding out there's no santa.
"Chris, shut up." Jay said.
"Yeah well, I do hate him now" Josie said, standing. "I'm going to smoke a cigarette." She brought her tray to the window, said a quick hello to Will who was on dish duty and walked up the hill. She sat down on the curb and lit a cigarette. She looked across the road to his bench and saw it empty. 'He's gone.' She told herself, standing. She walked over and sat down. 'He didn't give me a chance to explain, and he'll never know I didn't tell anyone.' To say she was upset would be an understatement. Josie was pissed off, depressed and hurt.
----------
The days came and went. Josie was numb after the first few. She had never felt so... Wanted before. At the same time she felt utterly foolish. Brian hadn't made any proclamations of undying love, or any feelings other than being jealous of the attention she'd given everyone when she was ignoring him. Of course, feeling foolish was nothing compared to how much she missed him. She'd taken over his bench, just to feel close to him. This of course made her feel more foolish but she liked seeing things from his point of view.
Two weeks later it was time to leave for break; a two week vacation. Josie had been feeling less numb by this point and was feeling bad for the "co workers" that couldn't go home, because of either distance or lack of a home to go to. She had become friends with a few new hires so she wasn't as lonely as she'd been when Brian took off but she still missed him. The GED results still weren't in so she and the rest that had taken it were still walking around on eggshells. Josie wondered if Brian was too. Did he even care?
