The Longest Weekend
07/23/09
the longest weekend ive gone through yet, started at 10:00 pm on thursday june 18th. since the house had to be up by 5 am the next morning we all went to bed early. at 4:40 am my alarm went off and i got up and got myself ready before going into the house to make sure every one else was up and awake. by 5:50 my cousin des, her husband geo and i were all leaving the house and entering the local hospital to admit des into the Fourth Floor OB ward, as she was to go in for her csection at 8 am.
the wait until 8 was very boring considering the time of day, spent most of it pacing the room as des dozed on and off after she almost blacked out when they put the IV in her hand. at 10 to 8 the OR nurse came to take des down to the Second Floor OR room. by then Geos mom Meliki had joined us up at the hospital so her and i both went into the surgery waiting room as geo went in and changed into scrubs so that he could be with des during the csection. time seemed to drag on as we waited, both meliki and i keeping an eye on the time, as we were told that des would only be in surgery an hour. a little before 9 geo came out and got us from the waiting room, taking us into the recovery room to see des and their newborn son.
after about 20 minutes or so in the Recovery room, we all went back upstairs to Des's OB room while their son went to nursery for a little while. it was odd being in there as des was still pretty medicated she kept zoning in and out as well as falling asleep, comical as hell though to see her getting pissed off bc she couldnt move her legs due to the numbness of the epidural. they brought baby michael back in after a few hours in the warmer (incubator designed to keep babys warm). every couple of hours they came in and gave des a pain killer even if she wasnt in pain yet which kept her in a goofy mood all day long though the downside is she wanted to get up and moving b4 she was ready to, almost had a repeat of her first pregnancy in that aspect (case of confused and doped up new mom cant tell when shes overworking her body and collapses >.<) . a few vistors came by mainly from geos family, luckily only the ones we get along with showed up, geos sister jess, his mom brought up his little siblings and their little girl Aly as well as his aunt and uncle brought up a couple 1 pound bag of M & Ms (yay they were life savors lol, none of us had eaten til the junk food showed up).
now im a computer person for the most part usually on it most the day doing one thing or another, mainly working in GIMP until dark comes online, the night before des went in i had gone to bed early leaving him a message of what time des was going in and that id be mobile on my phone all day for him to contact me. that was the main thing i hated about the hospital no laptop to take up there so i could be online while waiting throughout the weekend. but luckily i had my cell so i could still talk to dark, even though i missed him like crazey. theres a saying in life, you neve know what you have til its gone, well it holds true for when your out of reach a few days as well. the weekend at the hospital was very boring considering i was mainly there to help make sure des took it easy since geo would also be helping her tend to their son.
the entire weekend went on the same way, sitting up there bored yelling at des when she would over do it, silently sit there as the visitors came and went laughing my ass off when des wound up making geos grandma cry just by asking if she wanted to hold the baby. when i wasnt sitting bored id trade shifts with geo on who was going to stay awake to keep an eye on everyone since we had baby michael in the room, or i would be texting dark on my phone. by the time moday came around we were all going stir crazey from being up there. at 7 am des had the drs ok to leave as soon as the paperwork was done anyways, the paperwork being the catch of it all. at 9 the nurse came in and said she was getting it ready we should be gone soon, they did the exit vitals on both des and baby mike, 10:30 rolled around with an apology that the paperwork was coming, discharge papers finally showed up around 11:30 almost noon (way too many hours later) as we exited the hospital des requested we stop by the old high school to see one teacher who was like a second mom to all who came through there that took about a half hour, maily because des was in too much pain to stand for more then that, so we headed home stopping by the pharmamcy long enough to drop off her scripts for pain killer and then leave, knowing someone would be back to pick them up sooner or later. finally we got home, des took the baby and went to lay down, me i dropped my stuff next to my chair and got online to spend time with dark for the first time in several days.
