“You do know we are all going to hell right?”

Serenity said it again when she looked up at the Vatican. They were there. Silvan shook his head and wrapped his arm around her. Lucian chuckled because well he had a secret and hell wasn’t a bad place to him. Kaire was the one who looked agitated at Serenity’s constant repetition of this sentence.

“Will you hush with your obsession about going to hell please?” kaire sighed. “We just go in and look for the staff. I never said the dream was perfect. All I know is it is in there somewhere.”

“You’re more moody now you know.” Serenity looked over at her. “You may actually want ot help up but you are still just..” She grunted. “Oh never mind.”

“Me!? You’re the one going on about Hell and how we are gonna wind up there! It is JUST a building. Get over it little princess.” Kaire placed her hands on her hips. “What is the big deal?”

Silvan and Lucian both just sighed and pulled the ladies apart again! Man these two loved to hate each other. Serenity blinked being pulled away. Kaire just let it happen. She got used to Lucian Physically tossing her over his shoulder by now.

“Okay. Maybe I need to go over just a couple small details here.” Serenity pulled away from her husband. “This is the Vatican. It is the religious center of this realm practically! Now before you three go asking how come that matters.” She looked right at kaire when she spoke. “Magic is not some thing that is commonly practiced here. It is used for car tricks and making little bunnies appear out of a hat. It is NOT used to send some one flying back into a tree. Things like energy bolts and magical staffs don’t even exist here. Well, they might but people don’t just openly talk about it.”

“Really? This world sucks.” Kaire looked around it once again. “Yeah I don’t think I could handle living here.”

“That is how come you were told to not go popping off with some spell. People would look at us like we are freaks.” Serenity looked between all of them now. “So I am not just moaning and groaning for no reason. We can not just walk right up into the Vatican and say we want to speak to the pope either. He is a religious leader icon. You have to get an appointment to see him and even if we DID get an appointment we can’t just come right out and say we are looking for a magical staff. That actually just might go against the very religion he teaches.”

“So what do you expect we do Priss?” Kaire sighed. “We have to go in.”

“You know what? I am going in.” Silvan stepped off from them and started for the large entrance way. “In our world the religions leaders are not kept from their people. I don’t see why this one should be any different.”

“Silvan!”

Serenity ran after him. Kaire and Lucian gave each other a passing glance and shook their heads. Serenity grabbed her husband’s hand and pulled him back some. Lucian tugged Kaire along, as always. She may have come to terms with her self but those two were annoying and Serenity was still a brat.

“He has protection around him because there are other religious factions in this world that would love to see him assassinated.” Serenity held his hand tighter. “So if we go in, all I am saying is, we have to be careful about how we approach this. If we aren’t careful the effects of our actions could get us thrown in jail.”

“Alright, alright already.” Lucian spoke up. “Lets just go in.”

“What do you suggest we do? You seem to be the smart one here.” Serenity stared at Lucian. “Hm?”

“Hey, don’t even ask me. This is completely on the other end of the spectrum for me.” He shrugged and walked past his confused companions. “Shall we?”

He pulled Kaire along with him. She grunted at being tugged around like this but she really didn’t have a choice in the mater. Lucian was a possessive individual. Serenity sighed and Silvan took Lucian’s lead now. He pulled his wife along with a tug to doors of the building. They were going to go inside and look around. You know pretend to be just like the other people that just happened to be walking around. This all would have been perfectly normal too had it not been for what happened next.

The people around them froze in place. The doors to the Vatican sealed tightly. They were the only four things moving out here right now. Not even the tree’s leaves swayed in the breeze. Serenity raised a brow. Lucian took this small moment to glance around quickly. Silvan finally gave up on the door. Kaire shook her head thinking ‘Great. She won’t let us live this one down’.

“So by your reaction, I am assuming this doesn’t always happen around here either.” Silvan glanced at the bewildered Serenity. “Right?”

“Yeah. I think that about sums it up love.” Serenity gasped. Her arm band started to tingle and give her that familiar warning of danger. It automatically formed in her hand. “Uh I also think we need to get ready for something.”

“Oh great.” kaire started to scan the area quickly. “This is just lovely.”

“Lets move away from the doors.”

Lucian pushed them all into a more open spot where they each had the space to move and still could guard each others backs. Serenity panted harder that the warnings the staff was giving her. The twin dragon heads on the staff clenched their claws tightly around the already glowing gem stone.

“I’m getting a really bad feeling from this.” Serenity spotted her husband. He was pulling his sword from it’s sheath already. “The staff’s guardians are getting really antsy you guys.”

The rumble beneath their feet silenced them all. All eyes went forward to a looming black shape in the distance. It was huge, even from that far away. Kaire gulped and actually hid behind Lucian. Lucian quickly surveyed the area around them again. He was looking for possible outs. Silvan took his defensive stance in front of Serenity bravely.

“I have a feeling that is what your staff guardians was warning us about.”

Lucian watched and the rumble under their feet grew steadily stronger. Serenity whimpered. She was scared! Silvan kept his focus on the approaching shape. Lucian pulled kaire in closer to him. One large, black paw emerged from the black mass. Another followed. Soon one, two and now three different heads joined the paws. It had the head of a dragon, serpent and a lion. It’s tail emerged and they saw the hissing head of a serpent there. Kaire knew what this large, dragon sized creature was. It was a Chimera. It was a really deformed and messed up one but it was a Chimera.

“Oh....crap.”

kaire said a mouth full. Fire spat from the three heads. It shot up into sparks up in the air. Silvan took a deep breath and held it. Serenity stepped beside her husband and stood bravely. She would fight and die with him if this was to be their end. Lucian really hated what was about to happen. He knew deep in his mind that his secret would be revealed some how in this fight.

“Looks like it is time to dance kiddies.” Lucian accepted the fates as they came. “So lets go play shall we?”

“What!? Are you insane!” Kaire looked form him and then to the creature and back to Lucian again. “You are insane!”

The growl of the creature interrupted them. All three of it’s heads were now on the quartet of people in front of it. The snakes head hissed and did a strike in the air. The lions jaw growled even louder and unsheathed it’s claws form those really large paws. The dragon head spat small sparks of fire down and licked it’s forked tongue across it’s lips.

“Yeah. Insane.”

Serenity agreed with kaire for once! Miracle of miracles! Well they would have to discuss that miracle later. Right now they all had to worry about how they were going to kill this creature without being maimed, chewed and or eaten. Now That would be the real miracle.

“Like I said. Let’s dance.”

Lucian snarled and looked up at the beast. Silvan nodded in silence, though he did notice that Lucian never once grabbed for the strange sword at his side, when it most definitely would be useful in this fight. Perhaps if they lived through this he would ask him about it.

“If I don’t get to say this later. I love you Serenity.” Silvan readied him self. “With all my heart.”

“I love you too Silvan.” Serenity brought her staff up. She was shaking so badly that she needed two hands to hold it. “Have faith. We can do this.”

“Right so come on!” Kaire stepped around to stand beside Lucian. “I love you” She finally whispered to him.

Lucian smirked and looked up at the Chimera. Those words that Kaire spoke were enough to encourage him for a life time.

“Here Kitty, Kitty!”
