Chapter 21

Thank you Kylee and Sami for your nice reviews! I love to read them. I will really start to delve deeper into Raven and Logan\'s rocky, yet developing relationship in the next few chapters. Since this chapter is rather short I will go ahead and do a double post. Enjoy!!

Chapter 21

I walked home in a daze with a thin piece of paper clutched firmly in my sweaty palm. I popped the collar on the suede jacket lent to me. It was cold and getting late. I hadn\'t bothered to remember the papers as I had left. I simply left.

I found my way home with no problem. The front porch light was on, and awaiting my arrival was none other than Ren. He was standing in the middle of the doorway, watching me make my way up steps. He didn\'t say anything, just observed me. I heard the door creak as he opened it the rest of the way for my entrance.

"Where\'ve you been?" He asked, glancing out into the street.

The question lingered in the air for a moment as curious blue eyes scanned me like a radar. What was the point in lying? He obviously already knew the answer.

He closed the door behind me, “So are you going to tell me or just keep it to yourself, like usual?”

I shot him an angry glance, shocked that those words had came from his mouth, “Why should I tell you?"

"Because I want to hear the truth from you first and not from someone else. How\'s that, Rave?"

I suddenly got scared. Oh my God. He was right. If other people found out there\'d be rumors. There\'d be talk around school. Who knows what could come out of it. Who knows how my other brothers would find out. If-

"No one else is home, if you\'re wondering. Mom and dad went out to eat and Robin and Rhea went to the pharmacy, because he still doesn\'t feel good. Can we just be honest with each other for a change?"

I shoved the paper I had been carrying in the pocket of the jacket I was wearing. I shed the jacket, letting it drape across the couch. Ren eyed it suspiciously. He knew it wasn\'t mine.

"Just tell me!" He cried.

Could I trust him? Would he tell everyone? Would he tell Robin? Surely he\'d tell Robin...they\'re twins. If Robin found out this soon he\'d probably murder me in my sleep!

I walked into the kitchen, ready for a drink, but I heard my brother following my tracks.

"I won\'t tell anyone, Rave. You know I won\'t. I\'m not like that. I just want to know what\'s going on. I don\'t want to be left in the dark," He said, watching as I got a glass and put some ice in it.

I sat down at the bar, but Ren didn\'t move. He watched me sit down. He watched me slowly drink my water. The phone rang in the other room, but neither of us made a move to answer it. He was so stubborn....just like me.

The phone rang once, twice, three, four, five times before the answering machine picked it up. I had expected to hear mom or dad telling us they\'d be late or something about Rhea throwing up at the store. I had never, ever expected to hear Logan\'s voice "Rave. It\'s me. Call me tonight. I didn\'t give you my number for nothing." The phone clicked and Ren\'s eyes got huge. He stared at me accusingly and leaned over the bar in front of me.

"I knew it! I knew there was something going on between you guys. Why are you covering it up? Why?" He yelled.

"This is why!" I said loudly, jumping up from my sitting position, “Because I knew you and everyone else would act like this."

He shook his head and ran a hand through blonde hair and over his orange ears, “I just can\'t believe this."

"It\'s not that hard," I said, knowing I was now lying to myself.

I emptied my half glass of water down the drain and looked out the window to the dark backyard. I turned back to my brother slowly. Why was I telling him this? Why him, why now?

"Me and Logan...we\'re together," I said in a whisper.

He had paled a bit, the whiteness of his face making him look dead against his dark, hooded sweatshirt.

"Together...as in you\'re dating? Why?"

"Why do people date, Ren?" I snapped, "Take a shot at it."

"You don\'t have to act like an ass to me. I simply asked you a question. And why did you tell me, anyway?"

I took a deep breath, “Well...I think you figured it out already. Plus—I had to tell someone!"

We stood in a freaky silence for too long until Ren caught my wandering gaze, “Robby\'s going to kill you when he finds out. Let\'s just say you haven\'t been very upfront with him lately."

"I know Ren, I know. Everything sucks for me right now," I said and began laughing at the childish phrase.

Ren stared at me like I was psycho. I hutched over on my knees and suddenly realized my eyes were getting damp. I sniffed and rubbed a shaking hand over my face.

"You already know everything you\'re going to go through, right? You must really love him, then?" My little brother asked and approached me.

Love? Love. It was the truth that hit me like a truckload of bricks. Shit. I was in love.
