Chapter Twenty-One

I’m so relieved when we don’t actually go to the lingerie store. I can’t believe they tricked me like that!!! Okay, maybe I can, but still!! Sakura is even more mischievous than I thought. It’s so scary, it’s almost like I’m stuck with two Crissy’s plus a psychotic mom now!

I don’t really wanna hang out with them anymore. I miss spending time with the guys. I really do. These crazy girls are keeping me away from them!

Sadly, I’m still stuck with them during the daytime when I’m not working for about a week longer, until finally, Crissy comes up to me one afternoon, and states, quite clearly, “You still look like a guy.”

I just give her a look. “What’s your point?”

“Well, tomorrow is the big day, and you still look like a guy.”

“T-tomorrow?! I thought we still had like a week left!”

“Nope. We spent the whole week distracting you, remember?” She smiles at me, but I know the truth. She’s really the devil in disguise…!

“I can’t go!” I tell her.

“And why not?!”

“Because… it’s just like you said… I look like a guy now! Heck, I even act like a guy!”

“Oh, please,” she says. “You just need the magic of makeup. And I have an expert ready to work on you tomorrow morning.”

An expert?? Huh??

“So, in other words, dear sister… you’ll be sleeping at Momma’s tonight!”

“But you crazies scare me too much!!”

“Too late!!! It’s already been decided!!!” Then she grins at me, and shouts, “AND TOMORROW YOU’LL BE THE MOST -- mmff!!”

“Ow!!” … … She bit me. Well, I did sort of cover her mouth with my hand… to get her to shut up… Ugh…

I can’t stop the pouting as Crissy drags me along, ignoring the confused gazes of my roommates. I silently mouth the words ‘save me’ to them, but it’s too late as Crissy and my mother throw me into the car and take off. The drive is silent, but one glance at the two women in the front and people would see the psychotic grins on their faces. “Don’t worry, Nana,” I hear my mother say, “everything will work out for the best.”

“Easy for you to say… it’s not your life you’re toying with,” I complain, though I know it won’t do any good. A part of me kind of wants to really do this now. That part is really excited about the dance… but that’s only a minor part. The rest of me wants to chicken out before it’s too late!

That night, as I’m laying down in my old bed, I hear Crissy sit up over in hers. “You know, Nana…”

“Hm?” I sit up too and look over at her. “What is it?”

“Well…” She looks down for a minute or two, then she looks back at me again. “Even if it doesn’t work out… just know that we’re doing this to help you, okay? Not to hurt you.”

Oh? “Uh, thanks…?”

She smiles and comes over to my bed, sitting next to me. “As soon as I realized how much you really liked him, I tried coming up with a way to get you two together. The dance was like a perfect opportunity, you know?”

I blink at her, really surprised by this. So she really has been trying to get us together, huh? “And to think, all this time I thought you were the devil in disguise…”

“Why the hell would you ever think that?” she asks, glaring at me a little.

“Oh, um… because you make my life seem like a nightmare?” I offer, and then she gives me a really scary-looking face. “I’m sorry!! I’m sorry!!”

I have no idea how much sleep I get during the night, my thoughts always coming up with random ‘what-if’s… I still feel super-tired when Crissy wakes me up in the morning. “Come on, we have a lot of work to do!” she exclaims, pulling my nightshirt over my head before I even sit up.

“H-hey, what the heck are you doing, Sis?!” I shout, quickly covering myself.

“Don’t be so embarrassed,” she tells me. “I have the same things.”

After about ten minutes, she is finally able to get the dress and… lingerie… I can’t believe she actually went there without me… on me, she spins me around and points me at the mirror. “Looky at you, a drag queen!”

Ack! That was really rude, but at the same time, sadly… I can’t really argue. This dress is too much, especially on me now, after I had tried to hide any femininity I had left.

Crissy then drags me out to the bathroom, spraying me with perfume. I cough, unable to breathe with all the fumes. “Ooo, this should be lots of fun!” I hear a different girly voice say from the doorway, and I turn to see Cherry standing there, looking girly and pretty. “I’ll be sure to make you look gorgeous. You won’t even recognize yourself!”

“I-is that really a good thing??”

She ignores my question though as she drops down a huge makeup kit on the floor. “Just hold still and let your step-mommy do all the work, okay?”

***

I don’t know how long I’m actually stuck there, and I’m actually about to finally fall asleep again, when suddenly Cherry tells me to, “Open your eyes now, dear. Hehehe.”

So I open them, and look at myself in the mirror. My jaw drops. I never, ever saw myself look so beautiful before. Everything actually seems to really fit together. It’s so hard for me not to cry right now.

… But am I really ready to face Nick?
