Chapter 21

It was nice to be going home again. Some of those guys really got on his nerves – actually, mostly just one. Nele pulled to a stop in the parking lot across the street from his apartment and glanced over at Kiyoshi. Finally he could bring that guy home for a little while. It didn't feel right leaving the guy at that other place when the big-ass prick could have been lurking around there.

The door opened and he climbed out, pocketing the car keys and motioning for his Japanese companion to follow. Not much traffic ,so he didn't bother waiting for the light to turn before strutting across. "If my roommate tries to hit on you, just make the sign of the cross and he'll fly away."

He made it to the other side of the street, but before he started down the walkway to the doors, he spotted something in the corner of his eye. There was something down at the side of the apartment building, huddled between the drainpipe and a bush. His eyes widened and he hurried over, slowing and crouching as he neared. A dog, not a puppy, but still quite young and small. A dachshund was there, whimpering quietly, but it didn't look injured. Must have just been scared. He slowly brought his hand out to let the critter sniff him, and then gently petted its head.

Making as little sudden movement or noise as possible, he took out his keys and looked over at Kiyoshi. "Will you do me a big favour? Take these and get the door for me, please?"

With a shrug, the Japanese accepted them and headed over towards the door. Nele picked up the little dog and held it to his chest, trying to reassure it as he followed. It looked up at him with shy, dark eyes, giving his arm a brief lick, its attention drifting to the street every time a bike passed.

Inside, he headed up the stairs and down the hallway. The dog was shaking, but he guessed it was still frightened, and probably hungry. As he walked, he checked it as best he could for any wounds or fractures, but not being a vet, he wouldn't be able to tell. It wasn't even wearing a collar, so either it was a runaway or abandoned. When he made it to his suite, he gave the door a gentle kick.

There were tiny meows from inside, followed by a string of cursing. Soon after, the door opened wide, and Leandor looked him over with very visible annoyance. "My god, another one? How on Earth do you keep finding these things?" His skeptical gaze drifted over to Kiyoshi and his lip quirked into a subtle smirk. "Well, well, well. It's the cutie from the arcade. Please, do come in!"

Whereas the comment seemed to bother him a little, the Japanese eventually flashed a smirk in return, wrapping his arm around to the redhead's opposite shoulder. "Good morning, Mr. Vilmiss. Nice cats."

"Cats? Ugh, those buggers are not cats. They're demons." He shook his head and turned around to head toward the fridge, one of the kittens stumbling along behind him. "Kept falling off the couch so I put them in the laundry hamper, but they keep getting out of there too. They ate, they slept, they shitted. What do they want?" He stopped and looked at the one at his heel. "Just wait till you grow up. I'm going to make you into a coat."

Nele smiled apologetically at Kiyoshi before heading over to place the dog down on the couch. It wasn't reacting to the kitten so he figured it wouldn't try to attack it. As he shifted to bring his arms around the Japanese man's waist, he pressed his lips to the guy's neck. "You thirsty? We've got beer... and iced tea, I think."

"Beer at 10 am?" The Japanese chuckled curiously as he slid five fingers into the red hair. "That's strange... although, maybe you're just trying to get laid?" He laughed lightly at that, bringing his free hand down to Nele's back to pull their bodies gently together.

"Laid? Nah... Is it working?" Nele nuzzled the neck and then stretched enough to claim the other's lips. He was just so happy to have Kiyoshi there with him, he almost forgot about the dog. Pouting, he reluctantly pulled away and went over to the cupboard. Had to find something to feed that poor dog. "Lea, let the cats out of the hamper, and quit threatening them."

Leandor, ignoring his instructions, pulled three bottles of iced tea out of the fridge and offered one to Kiyoshi. "So you're the one who my pet firecracker has been head over heels for lately. For the first time, I can actually say maybe he has good taste after all. And to think I was worried... I guess this means you're a top then, though. What a shame."

Quirking a curious brow at that comment, the black-haired youngster looked over at Nele. As a smile settled in his face, he started opening the bottle. "A shame? What do you mean?" He took a sip, swallowing quickly to add, "I might have done you if I didn't already have someone, yeah."

As Nele filled a bowl with some puppy food he had left over from the last rescue, he noticed – much to his amusement – his roommate wince. He carried the bowl over to the couch, putting it in front of the dog, and then he took a blanket out from under the coffee table and covered the critter. "Mr. Tooth Fairy is afraid of guys who would top him. One of my favourite sports is abandoning him in the middle of a leather daddy bar and timing how long it takes him to escape. Why the hell are all the blinds down? I thought you decided you weren't afraid of peeping toms." He patted the dog before heading over to let some sunlight into the room.

The Japanese followed him, sliding his arms around Nele from behind as he teasingly flickered his tongue over the neck. "I'm glad you don't share his fear of tops..." He mumbled as the redhead undid the blinds, then stopped dead. "Nele," he said with slight alarm in his voice, "that's Rick."

Startled, he looked down at the street. It took awhile before he spotted the guy. "You're kidding! Yeah, I guess he does look familiar... Fucking ass-hat, I wonder how long he's been out there. And I was just starting to get horny too." He rolled his eyes and turned around to face Kiyoshi, resting his head on the guy's shoulder. "They just have to ruin everything, don't they?"

"Wait, that's 'Rick'?" Leandor came up beside them with a kitten in his arms, scanning the faces below. "Who exactly is Rick, and why is he standing outside our apartment?"

Not seeming particularly intent on letting that dumb blond mechanic ruin anything, Kiyoshi slid one hand down onto the redhead's backside, the other remaining on the back. He tilted his head to rest against Nele's. "Rick's the guy in the hummer. A friend of those guys we met at the arcade, apparently. Think he's here for the photo, Nele?"

"That man was here last night when I got that call. I thought he was just a pedestrian." Leandor growled only to be silenced by the kitten in his arms meowing at him. Annoyed, he closed the blinds and turned around to drink from his own iced tea. "Honestly, if you two want to grope each other, have the decency to get a room first."

With a light sigh, the redhead stole another quick kiss. "A room? The kitchen is a room. Let's do it on the kitchen table."
