~Kitsune’s perspective~
Mentally, I found my way through the time loop and redirected myself to Reena. Strangely, I found that she wasn’t with the others anymore… if anything she was on the beach where I found Terra. She seemed to be smirking at something then she disappeared from my sight and the scene shifted, and my mind followed.
~~~~
“Get up!” I was kicked forcibly in the stomach and groaned. “Get up!” another kick, another groan and I rolled to avoid the hard toe of the army boot that showed no mercy to my side.
“Why do you treat her like that?” I heard Reena’s voice in the background and I looked up, trying to tell her not to get involved
“She knew what would happen when she disobeyed. And she still did it.” Simion’s voice came cold and calculating. I pushed my power out to lessen the severity of the next blow, but was still pushed back a few feet. I rolled over and coughed.
~~~~~
Reena was in Sininon now, I could see her walking down streets that I remembered, with a determined look on her face that could only be defined as defiance. I tried to maintain my focus on her. She moved through the streets as one with practice if staying in the sidelines. The streets were too familiar… ‘No.’
~~~~~
“It’s not her fault! Why are you treating her like this?” her voice was adamant and I raised my head in time to see her pull him aside.
“She can handle it.” he replied, calmly slapping her away. “You apparently don’t know Neon as well as you think you do.” I received another swift kick in the gut, knocking the air from my lungs as she collected another slap, evening out the tone of her cheeks. She moved away from him and glared, breathing heavily. Simion leaned forward and spoke into the mike. “Alright, you can use your powers now.” Reena’s face turned to one of complete horror and shock.
“No!” she cried as I stood up looking at my attack full in the face. The door suddenly opened and a form was hurled without mercy.
“On both of them.”
“You should have minded your own business.” I said, blocking her body from the intense heat that was being spewed out of the Souseiki now behind me. Her hand came around me to block the fire from touching my back and was amazed to find none.
“You…”
“You think I was actually gonna take all that punishment?” I glanced over my shoulder at the splayed fire and felt my eyes change as I began to push it away, and back into his mouth. Reena got up and dashed to the other side of the room and began focusing on her power. I admired and envied that about her. The kind of time it took for her powers to activate gave her less to worry about when she was around people… she wouldn’t accidentally put them into a coma, simply by getting irritated by them.
~~~~~
“Let me pass.” Reena was at the first set of gates to the organization and the guards were quite perturbed by her sudden appearance.
“We’ll need to see some form of identification.” she tilted her head at their request and I noticed something in her eyes that hadn’t been there for a while. A kind of edge I never wanted to see there again.
“Identification…?” a malicious grin crossed her features and the guard was suddenly lifted from his post. “Is this enough of identification for you?” he was slammed against the wall and the gates were opened. Her attention was now focused on the restraining team that were blasting through the doors to try and contain her…
~~~~~~
More people were sent now. I turned back to Reena to see her eyes closed and focused on calling whichever power she thinks may be more useful against the multitude we were now facing. A wry smile came across my features as I saw the faces of the souseiki who had come as back-up.
“You guys wouldn’t have come here if I had been at full power.” I mused dodging a splatter of acid and moving to the closest one of them delivering as powerful a blow as I could muster to their thought processes. I managed to dispatch the others like that before I heard the cocking of a gun. I whirled on the sound and saw the target. Reena’s eyes just opened and I could see the swell of power around her, but it wasn’t directed in the correct place. ‘Damn it.’ my body moved on it’s own accord, diving into the line of fire and sending shockwaves of pain throughout my body. I felt my body collide with something solid, but soft and had the breath knocked out of me.
“Kit?” her voice seemed to be coming from far away. “Kit…?” I groaned and opened the eyes I didn’t remember closing to see a malice seep into hers before her eyes shut and her body trembled. I tried to move my mouth to speak… to reassure her, but the words couldn’t form.
~~~~~
One by one they fell as Reena made the painstaking journey towards the building. Gunshots rang out, echoing in her ears but the bullets never touched her… maybe I taught her too well…
Her head tilted again as the containment unit opted for a tactical retreat and she made her way to the door, blasting it off it’s hinges as she got to it. I felt hands on me, but I was pulled once again to the past…
~~~~~
My body started to feel hot. Hotter than hot… yet cool. I opened my eyes again and felt a strange warm yet cool sensation wash over me. The screaming was evident though. I turned my head and saw through the hues of blue at the throngs of screaming souseiki trying to get out of the hot-box death-trap they’d gotten themselves into. I turned back to Reena as I felt my neck get lighter and heard a clang of metal on metal as my collar, the device that had me trapped for all those years finally fall off. My power surged, and for an infinitesimal second, the fire got unbelievably hotter before I contained myself and raised my hand to Reena’s face. She looked down at me, her eyes still etched in malice and hate. Her lips opened part-way and I twitched involuntarily as the bullet that had still been embedded in me popped out of my chest as my hyper healing took over.
“You’re alright?” she voice was barely over a whisper. I nodded, still unable to speak. Her fire started to die slightly and I took another look around, noticing the determined looks on the faces of the scientists. I decided I had enough of it all…
My hand was still on her face, but in the state I was in… there was no way I’d be able to close the portal within seconds… we couldn’t go together…
“I’m sorry…” the words managed to leave my lips, they echoed in my head long after I had managed to appear in the forests of the Amazon. ‘I’m sorry…'
