Blinded!

Chapter 19: Blinded!

“You just like pulling my hair don’t you!?” Nick hissed out in pain at Vincent.

It seemed to Nick, that hair pulling had become one of Vincent’s favorite past times. Especially, when it came to Nick’s own mop of hair. Every time he pissed Vincent off, which was alot, then the grabbing and pulling would start. At this rate, he would end up bald before he was 25.

Vincent gave another hard tug to Nick’s hair causing Nick to curse in pain yet again.

“OW! FOR CRYING OUT LOUD EASE UP WILL YA!” Nick yelled out.

Vincent was extremely pissed off and Nick was the reason why. OK, he thought, maybe asking Sarah about Vincent’s past wasn’t such a good idea after all. Well, it was too late to change his mind now, the damage was done. He had been caught and now had to deal with the repercussions for his actions.

Nick was starting to get extremely worried. What was Vincent going to do with him? It seemed Vincent was always angry with Nick, only this time his anger was different. It was like Vincent was trying to gain control of it, because once he unleashed it, the ramifications might prove to be disastrous.

“Explain to me Nicholas, what was it about my family history that you found so fascinating? Did you think you could use the information to your advantage? Did you think that maybe you could ridicule me with it? Tell me, did you think that by using it against me, I would break down in despair and give you your freedom back! ANSWER ME!” Vincent barked.

Nick knew he was in deep trouble and had to find a way to try and calm Vincent’s anger down before it got carried away.

“Vincent, I am sorry, alright! I know it was none of my business inquiring into your past, but you can’t really blame me, can you? What did you expect me to try and do? First, I find out you are a dark creature of the night. Secondly, you kidnap, torture, rape and humiliate me. Let's not forget that I am being held as your prisoner. Oh, and to top it all off, you keep me stark naked and in chains! So, you tell me Vincent, what should I have done? Hmmm? What would you have done in my situation? Why don't you answer me that question yourself. Well? I am waiting or don't you even know what you would do?"

Nick started huffing and struggling trying to get Vincent to let up on the hold he had him in.

“Do you think I enjoy this kind of life Vincent? You took away from me everything I knew and loved. I had a beautiful girlfriend. I had a worthwhile job that I benefited from by helping others. I had a bestfriend who was like a brother to me and friends who stuck by me in rough times. Let's not forget you took my freedom and future away from me too.! If you don’t think I miss my life, then you are sicker than I originally thought!”

Nick couldn’t seem to stop, so continued, “I didn’t ask for this kind of life you know. You took me against my will and have kept me locked up for God knows how long. I don’t even know what is happening in the outside world anymore. I don't how Jenna or my friends are. Oh, and you continue to mistreat me like I am a creature lower than even you!”

He looked up at Vincent with tears in his eyes and went on, “I am sorry about what happened to your parents! I am especially sorry for the tragedy that befell your sister Elizabeth! When are you going to realize that you are not the only one in the world who has lost loved ones. I lost my parents too, to a drug crazed murderer when I was just a teenager. They were murdered brutally right in front of my eyes and there was nothing I could do to stop it. Don’t you think I felt guilt for that? Seeing them being tortured and not being able to help them, to stop it, stop their pain. I can still hear their screams. They had told me to hide. They made me promise not to make a sound, or to come out of hiding. They said that no matter what I heard I was to stay hidden. So, I did what they wanted, I hid and I watched just like a coward. Then I cried when I saw them die, and I have lived with the regret of knowing that I didn’t even have the courage do one thing to help them. Don’t you think I wished I could have died with them that night? Do you have any idea of the kind of guilt that I have been living with since then?”

Vincent had not spoken since Nick began his tirade. He heard everything Nick had said but in his fury was unable to comprehend it. All he knew, and all he was thinking, were that the memories he had held as sacred all these years and had kept hidden in the private recesses of his mind were stolen from him. The memories he had kept so long at bay were suddenly forced to the forefront. It angered and infuriated him beyond all reason.

What right did Nicholas have snooping around into his private life? Who the hell did he think he was? Why did he think Vincent would let him get away with it. No, Nick was going to pay for his invasion of privacy.

He would teach him a lesson that he would soon not forget.

Thinking back to earlier though, Vincent knew it didn’t help with his current mood situation that the meeting he had attended with the others had not gone off as well as he had expected it to. He had stayed away for too long and it was proving difficult convincing them of his intentions. They still did not completely trust him or his ideas. He would just have to deal with them later. Especially, Dominic Ambrose, he was dangerous and would be a formidable enemy. So, if he was thinking rationally, he might have calmed himself down. Unfortunately, upon returning home, when he overheard Sarah and Nicholas discussing his life all reason for rational thought disappeared.

Vincent was brought out of his deep thoughts by a sudden sharp pain to his groin. He cursed and released his hold on Nick giving him a chance to make a run for it. Nick ran for the bathroom in record time and slammed the door shut locking it behind him.

Oh man, Nick thought, I made it! Thank God that Vincent was distracted or I never would have been able to get away from him. I just hope this door will hold and he can’t break it open. It looks pretty strong. I don’t see how he could do it.

Nick gratefully sank to the floor before realizing he was thirsty. Getting up, he slowly walked over to the sink to get a glass of water. Looking in the mirror, he saw his reflection staring back at him. He hadn’t seen himself in such a long time. His hair had gotten longer and wilder. He skin was pale due to lack of sunlight. His large blue eyes had a slightly haunting look to them. There were bruises littering his skin, I wonder why, he nastily thought. He counted himself lucky that Vincent allowed Sarah to shave him. Taking a sip of the cool refreshing tap water he turned to take a look around him.

The bathroom was enormous, the fixtures were made of marble, and the bathtub looked like a large pool.

Nick started thinking, what could it hurt, I need a bath anyway and no one is using this one. A nice refreshing warm soak felt like a very good idea to him. What the hell, why not. Since it looks like I’ll be in here for a long time, at least until Vincent cools off, I may as well take advantage of it. Who knows when I might get a chance like this again.

He started running the water, for what he thought, would be a long deserved and much relaxing bath. He was unaware, that behind him, the door was slowly opening.

Just as he was testing the temperature of the water, he got the airy sensation of being watched. Oh no, he thought, this can’t be good. Cautiously, he turned around and wonder of wonders saw Vincent standing in the doorway glaring at him.

“Hi there!” Nick called out, “Would you care to join me for a bath?”

Realizing he had made a drastic mistake, Nick tried to run past Vincent but was caught in mid stride.

“LET ME GO! STOP IT! YOU'RE HURTING ME!” Nick cried out as Vincent twisted his arms cruelly behind his back and pushed him into the bedroom.

Vincent was past furious. He had lost all sense of reality and was determined to take his frustration out on the nearest living object who just happened to be Nick.

Attacking Nick, and with his fists flying, Vincent started pounding into him. Forgetting his inhuman strength, he continued striking every part of Nick’s body that he could reach. There was no part he left untouched. Nick tried to protect himself the best he could but it was a useless effort.

Nick was crying out for him to stop but Vincent did not hear his pleas. He let years of held in hate pour out of him, and with each strike, blood spilled and bones broke.

Nick had fainted, so was unaware of when Vincent lifted him up into the air and violently threw him across the room, to where his body landed with a sickening crunch against the large oak desk. Unfortunately, Nick’s head hit the corner of the desk first and he slid to the floor lying in a pool of his own blood.

As if coming out of a trance, Vincent just stood there staring at his hands in horror then looking over to where Nick was lying so quietly.

“What have I done?” Vincent murmured to himself.

He swiftly ran over to where Nick was and knelt down beside him. Gently lifting Nick up, he pulled him into his arms and carried him over to the bed. After putting him down on it, he ran to the door and called out for Sarah.

“What’s wrong?” she called running down the hall towards Vincent’s room.

“Quickly, bring your medical supplies, it’s an emergency!” Vincent answered.

Sarah had already predicted Nick might be in need of her assistance so she came prepared. But, what she saw when she entered the room almost made her sick. There was broken furniture and blood all over the place. She glanced around and saw Nick’s unmoving broken form on the bed.

“Nick, Dear God!” she gasped before hurrying over to him.

Gathering all her supplies she attended to him through the night and through the next day. Nick's injuries were severe and she was worried he might not survive. Thank God she had enough medicine and equipment on hand to treat and heal him. Sarah had told Vincent to wait outside in the hallway, while she worked her skills on saving Nick. It was a miracle if he survived the night. Sarah was determined that she would not let him die. Not on her watch. She cared for him too much. He was her friend and she felt somewhat responsible for what happened to him.

Finally, after many hours, she knew he was finally out of danger. Sarah went to the door and called Vincent back into the room.

“Is he dead?” Vincent whispered.

“No, he’ll live but it will take awhile for him to recuperate. It was touch and go for awhile, and I was worried he wouldn’t make it. Thank God Nick is so young and strong. He has much willpower and is a survivor. He will make it but it will be a slow recovery process.” she answered.

Vincent sighed in relief. What had he done? What possessed him? Nicholas didn’t deserve this kind of punishment. What kind of monster am I?, he thought. Nick was right about him after all.

“Get some rest Sarah, I’ll stay up with him.” Vincent told her.

Sarah checked Nick over once more to make sure he was comfortable then said “If he wakes, please send for me at once.”

“I promise.” Vincent responded.

After she left the room, Vincent walked over to the bed and sat in a chair beside Nick’s side. He watched him sleeping and kept an eye on the slow steady rise and fall of his chest. Looking at his bruised face he thought, what is it about you that brings out the worse in me? No one has ever affected me the way you have. I don’t understand why you bring out these feelings in me. When I am with you I feel complete, yet something seems to be missing. You are a puzzlement that I have yet to solve. I can’t seem to live without you and yet I continue to hurt you.

He gently picked up Nick’s hand and held it in his larger one. Time passed and morning approached, when Vincent sensed that Nick was stirring awake. He stood up and leaned over the bed still holding Nick’s hand.

Nick was slowly awakening, he was heavily sedated with pain medication and it was taking him awhile to get his bearings. His eyelids were fluttering and then started to open.

“Where am I?” Nick moaned, “What happened? I feel like I got run over by a mack truck.”

He finally opened his eyes completely. The first words out of Nick’s mouth were,

“Why is it so dark? Who the hell turned out all the lights?”
