Chapter 19
Chapter 019 : Painful Memory:
The ache inside his chest would not leave him. The physicians attended to his chest pain with elixiurs that did nothing. He needed to feel Magnus with him again. He longed for his wise council on the actions that should now be going on. Actions to destroy the Horde of Iced Earth before they became a full out threat upon the West. And most of all Stephen desired to feel that breath upon the back of his neck as he slept and those soft, warm arms wrapped around his waist as they slept together.
The memories of their childhood, and going through the rites of manhood together would not leave him.

The twelve year old boy stood with a sage like yet curious expression on his finely featured face. Stephen sat upon the limb of the tree looking down at the apprentice wizard.
"Please come down. Everyone is worried about you. You ran off without any warning. Your father is very angry." Magnus told him.
Stephen stood up and grabbed hold of a higher bough. He started to swing back and forth on that limb. A gave a devilish smile before he told the dark haired apprentice, "I don't want to become King. If you want me you'll have to come up and get me."
Magnus sighed. He didn't see any other choice. He tried several times to jump up; but his robes got in his way. He finally decided to give up that way. He discarded the robes to reveal himself wearing a pair of black tights and boots along with a white loose fitting undertunic, green orb on a golden chain. His slender fingers hurt as his nails dug into the bark. He started to climb up the trunk. Once he reached a steady and strong looking bough he walked out on it. It was hard for him to keep his balance. It was he first time he had ever done anything like this.
The apprentice smiled as he neared the branch that Stephen stood on. He wanted to be closer to the young prince of HammerFall. In truth it had been his own concern; not the adults that had ultimately led him out to Stephen. In truth he was the only one whom was looking for him in the courtyard. His hands reached up to pull himself up when the bough he stood on cracked. He frantically clutched onto the bough above him. His fingers tired and hurt slipped as they were already filled with wood from earlier. The brunnette boy screamed as he fell. Stephen's hands had reached out to late.
The apprentice wizard's own screams had been joined by those of the prince. He landed hard on the ground. Stephen lept quickly down to find Magnus slightly dazed. Stephen hoped that Magnus wasn't to badly hurt. He didn't see any blood, and was relieved by that fact. His eyes then caught sight of the strange pulsating orb around his neck. He had never seen it before.
His hands reached out to grasp it to have them violently slapped away. He shrink back from the angry scowl on the hurt aprpentice's face.
"What is that, Magnus? I have never seen it before. Will you not let me inspect it more closely?" Stephen inquired in a voice filled with curiousity.
The young wizard apprentice rubbed his obviously sore backside, "It was entrusted to me by my great grandfather. You can't see it more closer then this. It's a very powerful relic passed down in the Rosenbrim family."
"But what is it?" Stephen asked still curious.
"An amulet." Magnus had answered evasively.
"Amulet?" Stephen tested the word; not sure what it meant. He had no training in wizardly lore so he knew nothing of them.
"It's a powerful stone. It is said that this may be the Eye of Elgard."
After finally getting some straight answers Stephen was no longer interested in it. He supposed it was no different then any other jewel that he had seen. He helped Rosenbrim back up onto his feet.
"So do you wanna sneak out into the forest and hunt some rabbits, Magnus?"
He had silently shrugged his shoulders and the two walked off towards the wall behind the trees of the courtyard.

Stephen was snapped out of the memories of his childhood. He looked into the haggard face of Master Bran Rosenbrim; Magnus' father. There were faint traces of his son in that face. He found it fortunate that Rosenbrim more favored his beautiful mother wizard then his warrior father.
"Your majesty, I know your thoughts are not with us at the moment; but we should aid in the rescuing of Queen Dionna. I am sure that it would ease the mind of King Tokkli if we helped him." Bran informed his king.
Stephen replied, "Do what you think is best. I put you in charge of our relationship with Stratsovara." The king stood up his mind preoccupied, "Call me when we are ready to launch our first assaults upon the Hordes of Iced Earth." The King then strode with his head bent down in mourning for his loss from the hall. He knew it was unfair; but he had lost more then a son as Bran Rosenbrim had. He had lost the other half of himself, and he felt it aching inside of him. He wanted to ride out now; but his responsibilities to HammerFall kept him from riding out. He could not act without great consideration. Everything had to weighed for the benefit for HammerFall. He had never wanted to be King. He could not give it up. It was all he had left without Magnus.
