Chapter 1
They were all around me. Four of them, all with their teeth drawn and their fists at the ready. One sprang at me and I ducked to the side just in time. Another jumped at me, and I caught his arm and spun him around, throwing him into one of the others and they both went down. The first one was back and swung a wide punch but I jumped at him and caught him in the chest with my elbow and he went straight down.
The last one slowly came around to my left. I turned to face him just as he sprung forward with a kick at my jaw. I brought my arm up to block it but before I could counter attack he kicked again and again. I kept blocking myself from his kicks until he threw his right leg at my ribs. I caught it under my arm and kicked at his groin, hard, and he crumpled.
"Alright, stop!" I heard as I sprung forward to kick the guy in the face. I looked up and the instructor walked over. "Good work, Jackson," he said and I nodded back, catching my breath.
"It felt good," I said as he handed me a towel which I used to wipe the sweat off my forehead. "I still need to work on my speed, though."
"Most people need to work on something," he said, looking over at the other four. Three of them were back to their feet, but the last one was still moaning and rolling on the ground. "Grow up," he muttered to the guy. "Your kids aren't gonna come out with fucked arms or anything."
The guy got up and muttered a few obscenities to himself as he made his way over to a bench to sit it off. I grinned at him a little and turned to my instructor. "So, that's it for the day?" I asked him.
"Yeah," he grunted, going to put some equipment away. "Fuck off already."
It was always right here that I started relaxing. Most people would be the same, I guess, knowing that from right now I don't have any more work or any more classes. I went back to the changing room to take a shower and get changed.
After I left I made my way off the campus and down towards the bus stop. The university here was a great place; I'd been coming here for two years now to study choreographed fighting and stunt work. I'd grown up always wanting to be in movies, but I was always terrible at acting. I was good at wrestling though; I was captain of my school's team.
The bus pulled in. I got on and headed for a seat in the back, pulling my headphones over my ears. The ride was uneventful and as I got off at the corner I looked up. There was a great house there, huge and derelict. It had been abandoned for as long as I could remember, and my family had lived in the same house my whole life. Still, no one could deny that the eerie feeling they all got coming passed this place.
I looked over it slowly, looking for any movement. I'd been seeing some lights in there lately at night, though no one else notices it. Things were getting cold now so I hurried home for supper and made my way to my bedroom. I sat at my desk to do some homework and looked up at the house. The light was on again, and I swear I saw someone standing in the room.
