"Your late." Said Jack, "I\'ve been waiting in the rain for too damn long Marko." The torrential down pour did not do much to alleviate Jack\'s fowl mood; neither did the goofy smile that he received in reply.
"Sorry boss, traffic was a nightmare." Marko apologized, all the while managing to look sheepish with a lopsided grin not quite reaching his down cast opulent green eyes.
"Whatever." Jack muttered, "You\'ve known me for long enough Marko, I have a No-Nonsense policy. Just get in the car before we catch our death out here." Jack made his way into the sleek black on black German made beauty, riding shotgun as was usual. The brunette soon followed, ruffling the hair at the nape of his neck as he went along.
"So ... we were finally able to find out who was robbing our dealers in Hamilton." Says Marko with a slight undertone of hesitation to his voice.
"Thats good. At least one thing has gone right today. Hm ... is it Haven?" Asked Jack with the slightest hint of veiled curiosity.
"Naw boss, nobody that big. Just a couple of punks, trying to make a name for themselves." Stated Marko in a matter of fact tone. "Besides, Haven is still trying to recover after last month\'s raid. Our informants say that they\'re more focused on salvaging whatever is left of the Winslow turf. "
"Just a couple of punks, huh?" Asked jack lighting up a menthol cigarette and taking a drag deep into his lungs, "Brings back memories doesn\'t it Marko?"
"Yeah Jack, some good and some not so good." Said Marko with an eerily serious expression taking over his features.
"Yeah, I know Marko." Said Jack in a dilapidated tone, "Just try not to get too nostalgic on me. Remember we still have a ways to go before he can rest ..."
"So ... I assume we\'re on our way to take care of these kids?" Asked Jack, exhaling a rather large plume of smoke.
"Right, that order is coming straight down from the higher ups." Said Marko, "Something about us having to make an \'example\' of them. You know how those old timers think. If it\'s bad for business or bad for the Syndicate\'s reputation then it has to disappear. Permanently."
"Sure, I understand." Said Jack, "Do you know where these kids are holed up?\'" Asked Jack.
"Yeah." Said Marko, "I got word that they\'re laying low, down by the docks at the old abandoned warehouse."
"Good." Said Jack with a yawn, "You know how much I hate doing legwork."
"Yeah. That\'s why I took care of everything before picking you up." Replied Marko.
"I\'m gonna take a little nap wake me up before we enter the docks" Jack murmured.
"Sure thing, Jack."
The drive to the docks was uneventful. Marko\'s biggest threat was competing with the relentless rain and the unfavorable road conditions that it created. He would occasionally distract himself by taking sporadic glances at Jack\'s slumbering form.
His eyes roamed over his friends deceptively lithe form, the steady rise and fall of Jack\'s pronounced pectoral muscles a flutter with life. Marko\'s line of sight shifted further up past Jack\'s supple neck to his well defined jaw line; soft tufts of wiry blond hair were scattered evenly across. His narrow ski-sloped nose gently inhaling as his perfect pink lips parted ever so slightly in the steady release of air. Jack\'s dusky blond lashes whispered subtle caresses against the grooves of his cheeks, as his brow turned down in the onset of a scowl.
~He looks so at peace when he sleeps. It usually doesn\'t last long though. I\'d give anything just to see him at peace with himself. It should have been me that day. Him and Chase deserved better, they deserved each other ---~
"Marko, I get scared when you start thinking too much" Said Jack, startling Marko out of his train of thought, "Just cut it out already."
Marko\'s hand instinctively reached up to ruffle the hair at the nape of his neck. A steady blush started to spread across his face, heating up his cheeks. He was embarrassed knowing full well that he had been caught staring at Jack, while being lost in his thoughts.
Marko managed mutter a meek "Okay."
