chapter 2
Several of weeks have passed. At first Ghazi’s guest was so badly hurt that Sare did not think he could heal him and would die from an infection to one of his several wounds. The red-haired man could barely stay awake long enough to get any nutrition. Sare also worried he might die of dehydration or malnutrition. Fortunately, their guest did not succumb to his wounds and even though Aiden seemed weak still, Sare was sure he was going to make it. Despite the fact that Sare had to dedicate practically all of his time to caring for this stranger, he did not mind to do so at all. He was happy to be relieved of his other duties to King Ghazi.
“You know, now that he is not covered with all those bruises he is actually rather good looking.” Lei said sitting on the floor next to the sleeping red-haired man eating grapes from a fruit tray that was brought for their guest for when he wakes up. “I hope that when he is able to stay awake for more than ten minutes he can stay enough time to get to know him.” He smirked, scooting closer to the sleeping man to admire him closer.
Sare rolled his eyes and walked over to them with a small bronze container full of water, ointments and bandages. The blond sat down next to Lei and lowered the sheet covering Aiden’s naked torso. “I thought you were summoned to Ghazi’s apartments last night,” Sare said as he began to change Aiden’s bandages, “I’m surprised to see that you were already dismissed. When you’re summoned you’re usually there until the afternoon.”
Lei shrugged, “He changed his mind and didn’t summon me after all. That royal harlot made a scene about how he had promised to bed her and he still hasn’t.” Lei stood up and took the yellow scarf like material he was wearing from around his shoulders and draped it over his head, covering it. “I think I should go. As good looking as your patient is it is really boring just watching you change his bandages.” He patted Sare’s head as he walked out. “I am most likely going to be summoned tonight so if you don’t find me in our room when you’re done, don’t get too lonely.”
“Lei, wait,” Sare stood up carrying the container full of water with both hands as he followed his friend to the door. “I am so sorry that you are being summoned most of the time now because I am here,” Said said looking guilty.
“It’s not your fault that you have other useful abilities. If anything, you’re very lucky…enjoy it while you can.” Lei said before leaning towards Sare to give him a kiss on the cheek and walked out.
Sare watched Lei leave.
All of a sudden the door closed in front of him and Sare jumped back as a reaction, dropping the water container in his hands. The blond turned and found himself face to face with the naked man that was supposed to be lying down and unconscious. Sare pressed his back against the closed door and just stared up at the red-haired man with a wide-eyed, surprised expression. Aiden had shut the door behind him and was leaning over Sare as he held the door closed with one hand.
“Don’t make a sound.” Aiden commanded in a low voice as he grabbed the blond by the arm and pulled him towards the mound of soft sheets and pillows he rested on for weeks. He forced Sare onto the sheets before letting go of him. Aiden knelt down beside Sare, who tried to move away but was held in place when Aiden grabbed his wrist and forced him to stay put. “Listen to me. Don’t do anything stupid and I will not hurt you.” Aiden said releasing the blond boy’s wrist. Sare was frightened of him and Aiden could see it. When he was released, Sare just brought his hand up to his chest and hugged it against himself casting his eyes down, away from Aiden.
“Tell me…what does King Ghazi want with me?”Aiden asked with a more gentle tone. He felt slightly guilty for frightening the boy who had been taking care of him all this time. Aiden had a feeling that he probably did not have to be rough with this boy and he will cooperate with him; at least, that is what he hoped for. Aiden really did not want to hurt Sare.
“I…I don’t know…”Sare answered, his voice shaking slightly. “I…I…I’m surprised also that his majesty is sh…sheltering you but i…if he was going to turn you in…he would have done so already.” Sare still did not look up at Aiden as he responded.
Aiden studied Sare. It was probably against all the training he has ever received but Aiden decided to believe the blond. He had a feeling that Sare was being honest. Aiden sighed and sat back, “I apologize for treating you roughly.”
Only when Aiden moved away from him a little, did Sare dare to look up. “It is alright.” he accepted Aiden’s apology. “I do not blame you for being suspicious.” The blond said as he offered one of the many red sheets they were laying on to Aiden to cover himself. Even though moments ago it seemed as if his life was in danger because of this man, Sare didn’t feel himself threatened any longer. He was actually happy to see that after many weeks their guest seemed to be getting his strength back. As a physician, it brought Sare joy to see his hard work in healing someone was successful.
“Your Highness, is it alright if I continue changing your bandages.”Sare then asked bowing slightly. He couldn’t forget of course that the man he was treating was a prince.
Aiden just looked at the blond for a moment before nodding. “I would appreciate it.” He watched as Sare stood and made his way to door where he had dropped the now empty water container. “Luckily I do not need to send for more water since I finished cleaning up all your wounds before you woke up, your Highness.” Sare said with a smile as he walked back and knelt once more beside Aiden. The blond took the ointment he had previously brought and started to apply it to Aiden’s stitched up wounds.
“I am glad to see that you are able to get up now.” Sare said as he worked, “You must be very sore still from all these wounds, but I’m sure that in a week or two your Highness will be able to leave. Well that is of course if your appetite came back also. Your Highness hasn’t been eating at all during your stay here and if you do not start eating like you should, then your wounds will take longer to heal. Not to mention that you might get dreadfully sick.”
Aiden was surprised with how much Sare was talking, since he remembered when he first came to a few weeks ago, the blond attendant seemed very shy. “I promise I will eat and do anything you tell me….Sare? Is that right?”
Sare nodded, “Yes, your Highness.”
“Please, call me Aiden.” Aiden insisted.
Sare blushed and shook his head, “I couldn’t…you are a prince…it would be too disrespectful.”
“Nonsense, for the man who has kept me alive in supposed enemy territory, it would be an honor if you considered me an equal. I insist.” Aiden found it odd to refer Sare as a man. He hasn’t fully sure that the other was male, but that Lady Min had referred him as a ‘he’. Aiden had never been attracted to males before, but he found this one to be the most beautiful creature he has ever laid eyes on.
Sare blushed and nodded, “If you insist…” When he finally finished with changing the prince’s bandages, Sare reached over for the nearby plate of fresh fruits Lei had been stealing grapes from before. “You promised…Aiden.” The blond smiled offering the fruit to his patient.
“Indeed I did, Sare.”Aiden smiled back taking his offered meal.
