A proposition
Anna took a step back and almost fell. The woman was holding her up, her long fingers upon the small of Anna’s own back. She held her hands there for longer than was necessary but soon let go. Anna smiled nervously and found that the woman had returned her smile and stepped back, sitting in the sofa adjacent to the one Anna’s violin was on. Anna watched as the woman watched her intently from the sofa, crossing her legs and giving Anna a view of her legs. Feeling rather awkward, she sat down and watched her as if Anna was now the student and the older woman was the teacher.
The woman’s eyes fell upon Anna’s outfit which made Anna feel quite uncomfortable. She avoided her gaze as the woman chuckled.
“Miss Mesta. I have to admit something to you.” She spoke with a rather amused tone to her voice. Anna looked over at her, not sure what was going on.
“What is that?”
“I do not play the violin nor plan to. I do not have any desire to hear the instrument in any way, shape or form.”
At this declaration, Anna looked at her quite stunned. This was the first time that someone had said something like that and it made no sense. Why hire her to teach her to play an instrument that she doesn’t like nor plan on using? Anna wasn’t sure what to do but sit there, in obvious confusion.
“I’m sure you’re wondering why I asked you here.” The woman suddenly took out a cigarette and Anna watched her light it up.
“Yes I am. What use am I to you?”
The woman watched Anna and smiled. She took a drag from her cigarette and blew out a puff of smoke and gave Anna a sexy smile.
“You are very easy on the eyes Miss Mesta.”
Anna tried not to act affected by that comment which was rather difficult. There had been women who thought she was pretty but it was not said in the tone that this woman was using. Ever since she was a little girl she would find women commenting to her mother what a “pretty little girl” Anna was. As she reached puberty, she had been asked out by many boys. Anna had never had a boyfriend and blamed it on shyness. When she was accepted into Juilliard she had found a similar situation which was how her son was conceived. A stunningly perfect Opera singer, Javier’s father was more than talented. He was shy like her and serious about his music. Anna thought she was in love and lost her virginity to him. Sadly enough when he found out she was pregnant, he wanted her to have an abortion, afraid that a child would ruin his career. So Anna lied and hid her pregnancy for the last couple of months before graduation from Juilliard. The last time Anna heard from him, he was in Italy taking part in a production of “Carmen” and Anna felt no desire to contact him. She knew that he wouldn’t love his beautiful son since he was deaf. She also knew that he would look down at Anna’s life, teaching people who in his arrogance were undeserving of learning music, instead of touring or playing for some orchestra. When her mother suffered a stroke she had no choice but to quit it all and take care of her as she knew that her brother was in no condition to take care of their mother.
Anna watched the woman as she looked at her as if she was a delicious meal. This woman was obviously not interested in her music but her body. The woman watched Anna for a few more seconds before finishing what she had to say.
“I mean what I said Miss Mesta. You have a rather stunning physique, though it’s hard to see with those horrible clothes hiding your body.”
Anna wasn’t sure how she was supposed to react to a comment like that. She wasn’t homophobic at all but had never really encountered a lesbian. Sure there were times that she found women pretty but it never seemed to be sexual. Anna wasn’t really sexually active, only having been with one person her whole life. She was so used to people caring about her body that it didn’t matter, even if it was from an older woman.
“So you answered my ad for a lesson so you could make comments about my body?”
Anna was starting to get angry. She had wasted time that she could spend with her 8 year-old son or her sick mother to appease some older woman’s fantasy. She also wasted money, gas money, on driving to this stupid apartment and had nothing to show for it. Without further hesitation, she got up and put her violin, bow and rosin away, snapping the case shut. She turned around to see the woman who grasped one of her wrists. Anna glared at her and only got a look of amusement in response.
This made her angry even more as she pushed her away and walked to the door. She was going to get the hell out of here as soon as possible.
“I know you are behind in your bills.”
Anna was at the door as she heard the woman speak. She turned around and saw the smile on her face as Anna raised her eyebrow. Anna didn’t really want to know what she was getting at as it wasn’t sounding good. Was this woman really talking about her financial situation?
“What about my bills?”
The woman gave a sly smile as she moved a strand of her graying blonde hair behind her ear. She stepped closer to Adrianna and looked her straight in the eyes.
“I am a rich woman, very rich. I can give you want you want…money, security. I’ll buy you a new home and a nurse to take care of your mother. You can even send your son to that school for the deaf that you haven’t been able to afford.”
The woman said it so simply that it took Anna a little while to understand what was said. Once it was fully understood, she stepped towards the woman, furious.
“How do you know so much about my life?”
The woman looked amused, her blue eyes bright with amusement. This was like some joke to her, a joke that Anna didn’t find very funny at all. This was her life after all and that fact that some woman that she barely knew was prying into her personal business was more than unnerving.
“I like to do my research. I didn’t get as far as I did by being nice. I find the weakness in my prey and go after it.”
Anna didn’t like the fact that she considered Anna some sort of prey. It was as if she was some sort of Venus Fly trap with Anna being the unfortunate fly that she has devoured. Anna adjusted her glasses and shook her head, still not sure where she was going.
“What do you want?”
The woman went to sit down, her curvy dress exposing quite a lot of her legs, which Anna noticed.
“I want you.”
A/N: Thanks lilygirl for responding. I wasn’t sure if anyone would respond. So thank you! I’m editing the next chapter after this which will be more interesting than the previous two chapters.
