Blindfold
I'll be honest I was really considering removing this story completely for the lack of attention it was getting. But what reviews I did get urged me to continue. Thank you to those who commented on this fic, it means a lot to me as I am a glutton for praise and criticism. This chapter goes into the first few murders Jamie had commited, and you learn the doctors name. It's a mild chapter but the next one is fun, you get to see a naked Jamie >.O enjoy!
Doctors notes:
Unable to control his behavior. Suffers delusions of visions from coming into contact with people. Look into medication dosages and prescriptions, possibly not working or too low a dosage to prevent mental instability.
Reminder: read patients file before returning, take SMALL steps to gain trust before continuing analysis.
Jamie was roused from sleep as the doctor was locked into his small cell. His chair scrapped along the tile floor again as he popped open his expensive brief case.
“I want to try something different today Jamie.”
It was the same man, the same voice as last time. This detail surprised him.
“You came back.”
Jamie could sense the confusion in his voice as he spoke.
“Of course I did. I’m here to help you.”
A chill crept into his throat as he lifted his head to the doctor.
“No one ever comes back, they always run away.”
The doctor went to writing, just like the day before. Jamie sighed, he could do without that.
“Today I want you to tell me about your murders.”
Jamie smiled, a small laugh climbing from his chest as he licked his lips.
“That’s a strange topic to touch. But I know you’ve read my case file this time and you already know the crimes I’ve committed upside down and backwards.”
The doctor shifted in his chair.
“I want to hear it from you.”
Jamie shifted on the floor to find a more comfortable position. If the doctor wanted to hear his story then he would tell it.
“The first time I had a vision, I was by myself on my way to school. I was pretty normal, never had anything special happen. But something was different that day when I stepped outside. I felt ill, almost like I had the flu but with no fever. I ran into him on the sidewalk on accident, my hand brushed his. For a moment my vision went white as I fell, I could hear the screams of his victim. I felt the warmth of her blood and could smell her death. It was a brutal death, not an easy kill. He had used an axe, and there wasn’t much left of her when he was finished. When I woke up again he was standing over me asking me if I was alright. I was so scared, I thought my heart was going to explode it was beating so fast and the light hurt my eyes. A week passed and I researched the murder in my vision. I couldn’t find any information on it anywhere until day nine. It was right on the front page newspapers. Snapshots of the girl I had watched die, before and after pictures if you would. And then his mug shot. It had been such a bloody death he didn’t get far before being caught.”
Jamie paused. The doctor had shifted in his chair.
“I don’t understand. If he was in police custody how did you kill him?”
Jamie smiled.
“He wasn’t my first murder. He was how I discovered what my visions meant. It was several months before I had another vision. He handed me a flyer outside of a small restaurant on its way up. My fingers touched his and that was that. I managed to keep from passing out this time. It simply was a snapshot of him pulling a gun on his boss and pulling the trigger twice. It only took me a week to plan it. It was a simple murder to start on, and surprisingly enough I found it easy to pull the trigger myself. I knew his boss probably deserved the bullet, but I couldn’t stand by and allow him to kill a man who probably had a family. I was surprised that I managed to get away unscathed. I waited outside his job until he left to go home. Two simple shots, one in the chest and one in the head. I’ll never forget the sound his body made when it hit the pavement, it resonates in me.”
The doctor shifted in his chair, bringing Jamie back from his memory. That first kill had empowered him and gave him the courage to pursue his other victims.
“I went almost a year before I had another vision. I was beginning to think it was all over.”
“Were you relieved by that idea?”
Jamie smiled as he lifted his head to the doctor.
“Actually, I was upset. For a while I had thought I was special, I was beginning to see that I could be something more than just an accountant, or a manager. I could decide life and death and save the innocent in the process.”
The doctor wrote something in his little book of Jamie.
“When I had my next vision I was relieved. I had gone to get my hair cut, but when the woman touched me I quickly changed my mind. I saw her drown her only son. He was eight at the time, a cute kid with a lot of promise. I’m still not sure what drove her to want to kill him, but I know I did the right thing. I followed her for a few days and found out where she lived. She never locked her front door until she went to bed so finding my way into her house was simple. And believe it or not she was in a bath when I came to kill her. Her son was in bed already so I had little chance of him seeing me. She was relaxing, her eyes were closed, she almost looked asleep. Once I was in the bathroom it was easy. I took hold of her throat and shoved her under the water. She thrashed, and got me a little wet, but she was at a terrible disadvantage. I held her there until she was still and there was no more air in her lungs. I pulled her back up from the water and positioned her back to the way she was before I had killed her. The bathwater had gone cold by the time I called the police. I didn’t want to leave her for the boy to find the next day. I felt it was better that way.”
“You sound sad.”
Jamie thought for a moment.
“I mourned for the boy. He was only eight; he didn’t know what his mother wished to do in her heart. I knew that someday I would be caught and I would be charged with his mother’s murder. Even though I saved his life and the lives of six others I knew I would be the enemy to them. I mourned for the boy’s loss.”
He heard the doctor stand then and take two steps towards him. He sucked air into his lungs sharply as he turned his head away.
“I only wanted to remove your blindfold.”
“Then you understand. If you touch me and I see something I will do everything in my power to kill you.”
He listened to the doctor breathe for a moment. He hadn’t been without his blindfold in what seemed like forever. He was deemed too dangerous to be left untied, and apparently too dangerous to be left with his sight. When the doctor’s fingers met his skin he leaned into the touch. He had been devoid of contact for so long; he had forgotten what the sensation felt like. He searched out the buckles that held the blindfold in place until he was pulling the heavy leather away from his skin. Jamie leaned his head against the wall; his eyes remaining closed as the doctor laid the blindfold on the ground and took up his seat again.
“Dean Buckham was going to gouge out the eyes of a little girl. He was on a subway, it was summer so I was wearing short sleeves and so was he. His forearm brushed mine and I could hear the little girl screaming, I could see her little contorted face as his thumbs forced her eyes out of their sockets. It was a powerful vision and it almost knocked me off my feet. I followed him onto the platform then. The vision was urgent and I knew he was going to commit his act soon. He went into a bathroom; I locked the door behind us. His crime was blinding a young girl and possibly killing her in his act. I had already decided on mine. He walked into a stall and I waited for him to come out. When he did he confronted me, he faced me, and he sealed his fate. I took hold of him and managed to find that strength I always do when I kill someone. He bashed the back of his skull against the side of the sink hard enough to black out. I could hear the sound of the bone breaking but I stayed. I wanted to make sure my mission was complete; I couldn’t afford to leave a mess. He came to 45 minutes later, fumbling along the floor. He couldn’t see, his occipital lobe had sustained enough damage to give me comfort and leave him on the floor, scrambling in his own blood.”
Jamie slowly opened his eyes as he stared at the cold ceiling tiles. His vision was blurry and he had to blink several times before it cleared.
“By the time anyone found him he had blacked out again, he was rushed to the hospital but he had lost a lot of blood and the swelling on his brain had done considerable and permanent damage. He never woke up again, and he died a week later.”
His gaze lowered to the doctor, he was younger than Jamie had expected, perhaps only a few years older than himself. He looked sharp in his monkey suit, but he was sure he would look better in street clothes. His hair was actually somewhat long and dark, but he combed it back to look more professional. Jamie had to gaze at him through his own long stands of dirty blonde hair. It had been several months since he had had a hair cut and it was getting rather long.
“Would she have died if you hadn’t killed Dean Buckham?”
Jamie’s grey eyes turned cold as he held the doctor in his sights.
“I didn’t see her death, but I was certain that his act would have killed her. The visions before this one were all shown to me because the victim was going to die. I had no reason to believe this case was any different. I didn’t want to let him slide either way. A little girl was going to be maimed or killed by him and I didn’t want to risk the later.”
The doctor stood smoothly and stretched slightly. They had been talking for a while and Jamie was even feeling a little fatigued.
“Let’s take a break. Did you want something to eat?”
Jamie nodded as he walked towards the door.
“What’s your name?”
The doctor paused at the door, turning to look at him over his shoulder.
“My name’s Ayden Brook.”
Thanks for reading, please rate and review. After some praise and feedback I'll revise and post the next chapter. Until next time!
