Chapter One Continued...
“…or did you bring her home?” The man in black asked, as the fire made his shadows dance behind him, more than one shadow showed on the wall behind him and each took their own shape of disfigured humans. “She stares a lot, doesn’t she?” he asked, bring my attention back to reality were I was surrounded by two men and I was topless.
“She’s not a Follower Shadow,” Malus replied to his first questioned as he yanked my arms from my chest and began to wrap me up with clean linen.
“Really and how did she convince you of that when she was hanging out with the Followers not too long ago before she started to follow you?” Shadow asked, seemingly full of questions tonight.
“Wait a minute,” I spoke up finally now that I had gotten the courage again due to the fact that I wasn’t exposed any more. “I was only with then to find Malus, I met up with them on the road no more than twenty minutes before you saw me. I heard them speak Malus’s name and I thought that…”
“And we should believe you why?” Shadow interrupted me with yet another questioned, he was really starting to annoy.
“Because I’m not one of them, they killed my family, I…”
“Quite,” Malus yelled, his eyes smoldering with anger, “Did you check your back Shadow?” he asked in a whisper.
“Of course I did.”
“Then why are we surrounded by the Followers of the Great Evil,” Shadow rushed to the window, keeping to the side of it as he looked out into the murky night.
“There’s about ten of them,” he replied after a quick look.
“Only twenty?” Malus smiled, but it didn’t reach his eyes, his yellow eyes that once again took on a crazy murderous look, one I was already too familiar with. “How stupid can they be if they think ten can bring me down, I’ll rip them to shreds.” Grabbing his sword out the scabbard he stalked towards the door. “Stay here,” he told me before he and Shadow disappeared out the door.
Everything had happened too fast, I had found Malus, but now was I going to loose him as fast as I had lost Luis. The simple question was of course “no”. Wounded or not wounded, Malus and Shadow couldn’t take up ten men alone and no man sent by the Great Evil was going to be an ordinary man.
Grabbing my shirt and belting on me knives as quickly as I could, I ran out the door to find Malus and Shadow back to back surrounded by men in grayish green hooded robes, the color of rotten food. These were sorcerers and already they were weaving a net to hold the two men. Sighting the leader of the group, I through a knife, disrupting the spell and allowing me to begin one of my own to destroy the rest of it. Malus looked at me with a slight hesitation of surprise before sweeping his sword around in an arc, killing one sorcerer and wounding another.
The fight was soon over, once the leader had been taken out, the rest were just men and men Malus could kill. He was right ten men were no match for him.
Snapping his blade back into his staff, Shadow stalked past me not even glancing at me. And Malus just wiped his sword on the robe of a fallen sorcerer.
“You ripped open your wound,” he said pulling up my shirt and pointing out the growing bloodstain.
“Oh,” was all I could say before collapsing into him arms. I had used up all my strength and the fight had given me more wounds to worry about.
“Aidan you idiot,” I heard him whisper as he lifted me up off the ground and I fainted
