Do Not Touch:Chapter 2

Edward led the child out of the school to his somewhat crappy car. He could have afforded a nicer car and bought one without even making payments, but he didn't really care and as long as it ran, it was suitable for his purposes. He barely spent anything out of his teaching salary, having inherited his house from a great-great aunt that had adored him as a child. His father had paid for his college education. Even his car was given to him. He had outfitted the house with solar panels shortly after reaching his majority. All of his water came from an underground freshwater spring that was sent through a filtration process before reaching his tap. The water system was already done when he inherited the house but he kept it updated. His only expenses were his Internet, satellite, food, gas and phone which he kept modestly low. He had been able to put back thirty five thousand into his savings every year for the last eight years.

Edward made sure not to even look at the teenager as they made the three-mile long drive to his home. He appreciated the four bedroom house, but it was meant to be filled with a family. Its large interior and covered outside pool made it the perfect place for family gatherings, which happened every year without fail. He was dreading the one that would happen in a week's time. He was the oldest one in the family that wasn't married or devoting himself to god, besides those that had spouses that had passed on. He pulled into the driveway, and glanced over at the small boy; the boy didn't look older than twelve. He seemed so small and seemed to sink into himself, more than likely to keep warm, making him seem even smaller.

"Mr. Sutherland, we have arrived." Edward said to the now frightened teen; he hoped the child wouldn't be this jittery all weekend long. He did need to get the rest of the grading done he had failed to do in class and his headache was growing even worse. Jack followed him into the house. He thought a few seconds about which bedroom he should be put into; he would keep the teen close so that he had any nightmares he could hear him.

"You can stay in the bedroom by my office which is down that hall. " Edward said pointing in the direction of the bedroom. Jack immediately went to the bedroom. Edward decided to make dinner while the boy was occupied, he thought about having to entertain the teen the whole weekend and his headache grew to painful proportions. He found some medicine for it in one of the kitchen cabinets and quickly downed it with a large glass of caffeinated soda; he usually didn't bother with items that were so un-nutritious, but he found that his headaches went away much faster if he indulged in having one. He quickly made spinach lasagna and set it in the oven to bake. He had been taught early to cook by all of his female family members.

The lasagna was one of his favorite foods although he rarely made it for fear of consuming the whole pan. He set the timer and decided to take a quick nap while it baked; he laid down on his comfiest couch and immediately fell to sleep.

Jack Sutherland looked around the room he was ordered to go to, he knew his teacher wasn't anything like his parents, but he couldn't help being afraid of the man that barked orders most of the time. He wondered if his teacher was happy at all. Even Jack had small moments of pleasure; like when Mr. Theodore left comments on his work about how good it was, or looking up at the stars at night after he finished all of his chores.

He laid on the comfortable bed; he knew that normal people slept on beds and that’s what Mr. Theodore had probably meant when he said to stay in this bedroom. It had a TV in the corner and a game system attached as well as a DVD and VCR player. Even if Mr. Theodore didn't want him sleeping on the bed, the closets were much larger than the ones he had at his former home. They were also lined with the softest carpet he had ever felt. He would be very comfortable here. He drifted off to sleep until he awoke to the sound of a ding. He was normally a light sleeper because he had to be able to hear his family’s demands at all hours of the night and day. He rarely got more than three or four hours of sleep in a row and did most of his chores at night, when his family was asleep, so that he wouldn't have to disturb them with his presence.

He went into the kitchen and quickly found the source of the ding; a timer. He found a couple of potholders and took the lasagna out of the oven and cut it off. He was surprised that he wouldn't have to make dinner. It would be the first time since he was four years old. He was fairly good at cooking; it wasn't as bad as some of the chores he had to do, but it wasn't as enjoyable as gardening or mowing the grass. He loved when he got to spend a little time outside; fresh air was always in short supply.

He let the lasagna cool for a few minutes while he found the dishes to set the table. He found cloth napkins, beautiful crystal glasses and plates lined with gold trim. He set the table for four and set out two more place settings on the counter that could easily be moved to the table in a hurry. He found some green and purple grapes in the fridge and quickly made a center piece. He was used to decorating on a pinch when his parents had company over without warning him in advance. He found a couple of white candles in a drawer and found the crystal candle holders in a cabinet. He sat a bottle of red wine in the freezer to chill and quickly made some lemonade with a dash of lime; he had been making the recipe for a while and had it perfected. Everyone who had ever tried it raved over it.

It was time to wake the sleeping teacher; he just hoped he could do it without getting yelled at too much.

Edward woke to the sounds of a bird chirping. No, it wasn't a bird but it did sound like one or at least a little like one. The bird sound morphed into an annoying Mr. Theodore being repeated over and over near his head, so he tried to swat at the sound and then he heard a very loud thump which woke him up instantly. Jack was sprawled out on the floor looking up at him most fearfully. He glanced up at the clock. It was fifteen minutes past when he should have taken the lasagna out. He ran to the kitchen and it was sitting perfect on the stove. He guessed Jack had taken it out. He walked back to the den where he had been sleeping. Jack was now huddled by the couch looking up at him timidly.

"Mr. Sutherland, I have no intention of hitting you or harming you in anyway, I am not like your parents no matter my attitude in class, I did not mean to almost hit you and thought I was merely swatting at a bird, it won't happen again. Get up and we shall eat, I know you must be hungry." Edward turned back to the kitchen and noticed some place settings out. He turned around and looked out at the entrance to the kitchen to where the dining table sat. It was decorated beautifully, like something out of a magazine. He never imagined something like that could involve his table. The only person who could have done it was currently still in his den. He was amazed to think that the teen could create something that beautiful and in a very short amount of time. The teen must have worked on it the whole time he was asleep. This was turning out to be a great weekend so far.

"Mr. Sutherland. It's time to eat, it will just be you and I this weekend but you did a great job on the table, looks great." Edward said to Jack as he came into the kitchen.

"Thank you, do you want red wine with the lasagna?" Jack asked hoping he wouldn't be mad at presuming.

Edward thought about a few seconds and decided it would be a great day to indulge. "Yes, that would be fine, and you can have a half a glass as long as you don't tell anyone, for doing such a great job on the table." Jack smiled at him.

"Alright, you go sit and I will serve us then." Edward smiled at him happily. He could get used to this, eating alone was one of the most boring things you could do and he usually ate in his office to avoid that very boredom. It was nice eating with someone you could talk to; maybe having Jack here wouldn't be such a bad thing.

Edward watched as Jack served chilled water, lemonade of some sort also chilled and the red wine. He poured himself about a fifth of a glass. Edward had to smirk at this. He guessed that Jack had never had any alcohol of any sort but he couldn't be sure.

Jack went back into the kitchen and put a blackberry pie from the freezer into the oven; it would be done by the time they got through eating. He set the timer. He very quickly made a Caesar salad and brought it then the lasagna out. He served both of them; it would be the first time in three days that he would have food. Even if he wasn't starving it still would have made him drool. He served Mr. Theodore a large helping then waited for him to nod that he could serve himself. He served himself a smaller portion knowing it would be all he could do to eat a little of it. His stomach had shrunk in size and it was hard for him to even drink a half a glass of water.

Mr. Theodore bowed his head and he did the same. Jack wasn't religious but he deeply believed in some entity. He had seen the stars at night and saw the beauty of a sunrise. He couldn't doubt that something higher had made those things. He listened as Mr. Theodore thanked god for Jack's presence in his house and Jack nearly cried. No one had ever been thankful that he had been alive much less happy that he was there. It was hard to think that his hard teacher was so different than he originally thought.

They began eating and Jack watched Mr. Theodore a few seconds to see what fork he should use and then Jack delved into the gooey, cheesy-spinachy lasagna. Every bite melted in his mouth. He had never had food this good.

He wondered where Mr. Theodore's family was. He had a huge house but it was apparent no one lived there but Mr. Theodore.

His parents never talked to him but he was used to the chatter they had between themselves and the yelling they had at him. He would hate being by himself. Edward finished his lasagna and got seconds. Jack managed to finish a little over half of his. Mr. Theodore smiled at him.

"The officers said you needed some muscle rub cream, but I think getting in the hot tub might be better for you, you should try eating the rest of the lasagna later and I think for the rest of this weekend I will be making you high calorie foods. You need to gain a bit of weight and eating a bit more won't hurt you. " Edward said taking in Jack's small wrists and small chest. A small wind could have knocked him over.

"You have a hot tub?" Jack asked excited. He loved being in the water; the one time he got to swim in a pool was heavenly. He was only allowed to shower once every three days so he really enjoyed it when he got the opportunity. He didn't stink because he had just gotten to shower this morning. His clothes were always washed but threadbare and ugly. All of them were gotten from various thrift shops for free. His parents refused to spend any money on him. He didn't know why they hated him but he seemed to be the cause of all of their troubles in life; his mother had to drop out of law school because she was pregnant with him, and his father had to work two jobs because his mother could barely find work. They both hated him. He wished that they had dropped him at an orphanage when he was born and then they would be happy. He didn't hate them because they were his parents but he didn't really like them.

Edward smiled at the happy look on Jack's face. "Yes, I have a hot tub and a pool, both of them are covered. " Jack smiled even wider. 'Yes, having Jack here wasn't bad at all' Edward thought.

"Would you like some coffee to go with your pie? It should be about done." Jack said. 'After having the best lemonade he'd ever had, with one of his favorite foods and eating it at the one of the most beautifully set tables ever this day was just getting better and better,' thought Edward

"You made pie?" Edward sighed happily. Looking as if he would hug Jack any second. Jack got nervous. No one had ever looked that happy at something he had done. "Of course some coffee would be great. I'll go turn on the hot tub while you fix us some."

Edward was completely over his bad mood. He went into the bedroom and found a very small pair of swimming trunks. He always had extra swimsuits and swim-trunks on hand for when his family came over unexpectedly. This pair still had the tags on them but by the looks of Jack's clothes he didn't think he would care either way.

When he came back, the table was cleared of all the used dishes and a perfect slice of blackberry pie was in front his chair. It was topped with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. Jack had a piece a little bit smaller than half in front of his chair. Edward's coffee was black. He hadn't thought to tell Jack how he liked it; Jack was in the kitchen putting the dishes in the dishwasher.

"You don't have to do that, I'll do it later, your muscles must be sore, so come and eat pie with me." He said with a smile in his voice. Jack turned around and started blushing at him and then smiled.

Jack followed him into the dining room. Edward didn't see him grab the sugar and creamer but he had it in his hands as he sat at the table. He wondered if Jack liked milk or creamer in his coffee. He was out of milk so creamer would just have to do for now. It was to his surprise that Jack sipped his coffee black and hummed in appreciation. Edward added a couple of teaspoons of sugar and a bit of creamer. It was perfect. The pie was cooked perfectly. His mother always said the way to his heart was through his stomach. He wondered why his students hadn't realized it. The one student that brought him really great macadamia cookies got a recommendation and he personally called every college she applied at.

Edward glanced up and Jack had a bit of whipped cream on his lip and without thinking Edward reached over and wiped it off with his thumb. Jack looked at him startled. Edward didn't usually invade people’s space like that. It kind of startled him too. He finished up the rest of his pie. And cleared both his and Jack's dishes.

"There are swimming trunks in your bedroom on the bed, go ahead and change while I finish up in here." Jack smiled and hurried to obey. He came back in a few minutes without having changed from his long sleeve shirt or his pants.

"I thought you were changing." Edward said to him confused.

"The trunks are under these but I don't really want you to see me without clothes." Jack said to him hesitantly. He didn't really want to tell him he was one giant bruise and that Mr. Theodore would probably freak or throw up if he saw him. He didn't even want to see himself much someone else see him.

"Come on, don't be shy. It just us two guys."
