Chapter two

Charle felt something soft touching her cheek and she heard someone talking, She slowly opened her gray eyes and found that she was being held in the lap of a green eyed man. She was still a little more then stunned, the books had been cleared from around her, but that was all that she could really notice from the clouded haze around her mind. She did however find the source of the something soft touching her cheek. It was the mans hair, which was cut fairly short in the back and had nearly waist length bangs. After saying goodbye to whoever was on the phone, Charle assumed that it was the hospital, to her clouded mind that seemed the proper thing to do; He looked down and grinned at her. As he had just realized that she was conscious.

“Try not to move,” He said as he snapped his cell phone shut and put it in his pocket, and he shifted slightly. “You may have a concussion.” He stated simply and reached over her and felt the top of her head, Charle whimpered and flinched slightly. He looked down apologetically at her then took his hand away she saw a bit of blood on his fingertips.

“You’ll be ok,” He turned away from her to face the doors as a high-pitched squeals of sirens was getting closer, almost like he was judging the distance from where they were and how long it would take to get here, “Your rides almost here.” He smiled at her while keeping a hand on her shoulder in case she tried to sit up, but Charle really didn’t have any intentions whatsoever of getting up, she was still way too dizzy.

“Wh... What happened?” Charle asked feebly as she tried to gather what had happened to her. She looked at the man beside her; she couldn’t help but notice the piercing in his eyebrow and his curious, but flattering hairstyle. He had softly handsome features that seemed to suit his perpetually smiling, happy face. Once again, she couldn’t help but be drawn to this man.

“Well,” He looked down at her with a serious face, but his eyes held mischief. “You see, the bookshelf seemed to have some sort of grudge against you, and tried to kill you.” This completely confused Charle, her mind still couldn’t wrap itself around humor.
She winced when the sound of the sirens got much higher as they pulled up to the doors of the bookshop. It didn’t take too much time until the paramedics came in to check her out. They checked her vitals before lifting her gently onto the stretcher, and she grabbed hold of the mans leather jacket sleeve. “Will you come with me, please?” She asked softly looking at him imploringly, her gray eyes almost in tears. She had no idea why she was asking him to come with her; after all she had never met the man in her life before today. The idea of this was insane, but then again, right now Charle wasn’t exactly all there. But to her surprise he nodded, with a kind look in his eyes.

“Of course I will.” He gave her a lopsided grin and stayed by her side in the ambulance, holding her hand and talking about how horrible it was for that bookshelf to attack such a cool girl.
Once they arrived at the hospital he waited in the lobby, humming a happy tune and grinning like the local village idiot, while she was taken to a free doctor.

“Alright now, lets take a look.” The doctor said as he looked at the gash on the top of her head, it had stopped bleeding in the ambulance, but it still stung slightly as he inspected it and cleaned it up. “You’ll need one or two stitches in that cut and I’m afraid you do have a concussion. We’re going to need you to stay her for the night, is there anyone we can call to keep you awake?” The doctor asked looking at the charts the paramedics had left with all the information that D had provided them, courtesy of her wallet. “Of course we’ll have to call your foster parents to let them know you’re alright.”

When she didn’t answer right away he gave her a concerned look, before leaving he stitched her up and smiled kindly at her. “Why don’t I ask that nice man who came with you to stay with you. I’m sure he won’t mind.” She looked up at the doctor then nodded softly in agreement. The doctor smiled at her. “Don’t forget to get changed into one of the hospital gowns, and we can send your clothes to get washed for you.” She nodded slightly again before going to bathroom to change and giving the clothes to one of the nurses before both the nurse and doctor left. Charle was just getting into the bed when the man from the bookstore knocked on the door lightly.

“Hey, Want some company?” He asked as he walked into the room without waiting for her answer. Charle looked up at him then smiled and nodded. The man took off his jacket and draped it over the back of one of the chairs and sat down next to her.

“It would be nice until the others get here.” She settled herself in the bed, tucking the blankets around her like a little nest, sighing gently. “I want to thank you for staying with me.” He nodded and looked up at her.

“You know, I wonder what the Bookshelf had against you.” He chuckled and smirked lightly. “It probably didn’t like your pants.” Charle looked at him for a few moments then laughed.
“Most likely.” She turned to him and crossed her legs on the bed. “So my name is Charle.” She held her hand out for a handshake. “And who might you be?”

“You can call me D.” The man stood and took her hand in his then kissed the top of it in a gentlemanly manner. “It was a pleasure saving you from the killer bookcase.” Charle chuckled slightly.

“The kind of saving I needed was deciding to wear a different pair of pants.” She replied with a bright smile, and a slight giggle.

“Well, If you had of worn a skirt, I would have gotten a better view!” D said in a bubbly tone, Charle made a face at him and hit with her pillow.

“Perv!!” She said playfully while hitting him a couple more times with the pillow, he chuckled and sat back down on the chair.

“Hey, at least you seem a lot better then the ditzy girl that I got to meet earlier.” He said laughingly. Then he looked up as two flustered adults came in the room followed by one sullen male teen. They completely overlooked him and went straight to Charle on the bed, who looked almost terrified.
