Chapter 2

The Sea Noose

The next morning I awoke in my bed. I slowly climbed out of bed, shivering at the loss of warmth. I stretched and grabbed the top blanket, wrapping it around me tightly. I slowly walked down the hall, wandering into in the living rooms. I fire had a new log already burning. I curled up on the couch, closing my eyes. The sound of softly clicking metal reached my eyes and made me smile. He hadn't left.

Soft footsteps walked down the hallway, heading to my room. My door was already open and I heard the footsteps pause before turning around and heading back. They stopped in the doorway of the living room.

“So, this is where you are hiding from me.” I opened my eyes and smiled at Cian.

“I'll have you know, that I am not hiding. I simply moved my spot of where i wanted to be without your knowing of my move.” he smiled.

“That's hiding in a different sense.” I stuck my tongue out at him and he rolled his eyes. “So, I take it that you don't want coffee, then?” I smiled.

“Yes, please.” he nodded and retreated to the kitchen. Moments later he cam back and handed me a mug filled with nice, hot coffee. He sat next me with his own mug in hand.

“Thank you.” he smiled warmly at me. I took a sip of my coffee and closed my eyes. “You make some damn good coffee Cian.” he shrugged.

“It's a gift.” I looked over at him curiously.

“Where's Vitas?”

“Oh, I took him home.” I was shocked.

“But you live about a three hour walk away!” he shrugged again.

“I just wasn't very tired. Though I did drive back here.”

“Well, that's good then.” I continued to drink my coffee whilst he drank his. When we had both finished, I put my mug on the table. I turned to him, my elbow resting on the back of the couch, supporting my head.

“So, you have to work today?” he nodded.

“Yes, unfortunately, I do.” I smiled softly.

“Yes, you have mentioned quite a few times,” I smirked, “about how... incompetent your co-workers are.” he sighed and rubbed his temples.

“Lord, you'd think they dropped out of school when they were fifteen by the way they act!” I patted his arm.

“Once you get promoted, which I know you will, you can fire them and actually find people who know about computers and how to fix them. And actually have them stay fixed.”

“God, I hope so.” I smiled.

“When do you have to leave?”

“Well... last I checked, it was around... eight, I believe. So I will have to leave shortly.” I nodded and stood up, shedding the blanket once more.

“Promise you'll visit again?” he smiled.

“I could never stop.” I kissed his cheek softly.

“I hope you have a good day at work, Cian.” he took my hand and kissed it.

“I doubt I will, but thank you all the same.” I yawned while I nodded again.

“I'll see you later then, alright? I hope Vitas will be a good boy and not chew up your shoes.” he stood, laughing warmly.

“Yes, let's hope now, shall we?” we hugged briefly and he showed himself out. I stayed standing in the living room. I closed my eyes and waited. I sighed softly, my shoulders drooping as I heard the rumble of his car leaving the drive way and driving away. I went back into my bedroom, and walked into the adorned bathroom. I started the beth, getting the water to just below too hot. I added some bubble bath soap and slowly undressed as I waited for the water to fill the tub and the bubbles to spread over the water.

I stopped the water when the water was just a little bit aways from reaching the brim. I stepped up the small step and slowly eased myself down into the hot water. I settled down and rested my head on the end, my hair pooling in a small pile underneath my head, acting as a pillow of sorts. I sighed and closed my eyes, enjoying the exquisite feeling of the almost too hot water relaxing my muscles. I arched my back slightly, but it was enough to disturb the water and make some of the bubbles float up and touch the bottom of my chin.

I took a deep breath and exhaled slowly, concentrating on my breathing. I was able to make my breathing noticeably slow and draw out. My heart didn't have to work very hard to keep my body warm, the water doing that by itself. I slowly opened my eyes and looked up and over at the window gracing the wall, with dark blue curtains surrounding it neatly. The sky was beautiful. There were few clouds, the sky was vibrantly blue. I tilted my head and made my decision. I'd be taking a walk soon.

After another hour of lying in the bath, the water was about room temperature. I pushed myself out of the water, my arms supporting my weight for only a moment before my legs took over in supporting me. I reached for the large, white fluffy towel and dried off. I wrapped the towel around my hair and walked into my bedroom, naked, after pulling the plug on my bathtub.

I opened my dresser, opened the top drawer and pulled out a pair of black, bikini style underwear and slipped them on, taking out a black bra to match. I opened the next drawer and pulled out a loose, black t-shirt and a pair of snug, bell bottom-esque jeans and pulled them on. I threw the towel into the hamper, closed my drawers and walked out of my room, to the front door. I took off the long, black trench coat off of the semi-hidden coat hook and slipped it on, buttoning a few of the buttons.

I opened the door and stepped out, closing my eyes as I took a deep breath of the ocean air. I closed the door, and walked off of the porch, closing and locking the white fence behind me. I stood for a moment, burying my bare feet in the sand and wriggling my toes. I smiled and continued on, down the worn stone path, littered with patches of sand. I took the short walk down the path and was greeted with the sight of the rolling waves, crashing into the sandy shore. I stuffed my hands into my pockets and continued my walk, skirting around the edge of the water, making sure to keep myself dry. I took another deep breath and thought of a song I had heard a few days ago and started to sing it softly,

“I long to taste adventure, like the nature of the sea. Always moving, always hiding all the creatures from beneath. Singing silent songs of sadness my heart waits for its chance, to dance upon the ashes of my burned up little plans.” the waves continued crashing against the shore, though I didn't notice their noisy destruction of the sand.

“And I stand alone before the night. My nakedness is so clear in the glow of the moonlight. Life is old but so short. We are young, we want more.” my pace started slowly, my footsteps were light on the sand.

“I'm drowning, but I don't care. Because when you've got what I got, what I got... who needs air? I don't need air. You don't need air. My addiction to danger like the rush of the sea. Like a wave on the rocks the lessons crash down on me. I don’t need to prove the world to you only to myself. So step back and look away as I dive into the swell.” I turned towards the sea and cocked my head to the side, the breeze blowing my almost dry hair around my face.

I watched the waves as they rolled into the shore, the water receding and then coming back in again. I walked up a small bank and sat down on a flat rock surrounded by the sand, leaning against the grassy wall behind me. I crossed my legs and continued to watch the waves.

They seemed calmed, tranquil and timed. The water came in once more and went out once more. I wondered what would happen if the water didn't come back in again.
