SPECIAL THANKS:
this is what I like to call my special thanks section, where I thank everyone who has reviewed and supported my work.
Thank you to Sha, Simplicity, Doopee, Alex, Annie, and Lily.
Sha, the chapters are short to begin with and I apologize, but I try to refrain from giving too much character information at once. Don't want a reader over load or anything. But the chapters do gain length and speed later on so hang in there.
Doopee, step siblings aren't blood related and therefor isn't considered insecst. *hint hint* but Kara doesn't know everything about her mother's past lifestyle. >.O
And Lily, I love the enthusiasm lol it made me laugh.
thanks for listening to my rables...enjoy the story!

Chapter Two
Their conversation seemed to last forever as she stalled as long as she could before she would have to hang up. She didn’t want to let go of his voice but she knew she had to when the clock struck five. They had both decided that he was right; she would have to go live with him. He had a steady job, and had a place of his own. Lohan had been the one to move away from their old apartment, Daniel said he had refused to leave but wouldn’t tell her why.
“You need to get busy packing Kara. And catch the first train here.” A smile was on his voice again.
“But what about my school?” He chuckled at her.
“When you get here you can tell them that you moved and need a transfer. We have a school here you can go to, I think it’s called Chesapeak High.”
She tried to think of another excuse, although she wasn’t sure why she was trying to make it difficult.
“I guess it’s settled then. I’ll go get dressed and pack and be there by tonight.” He sighed in relief of her giving in.
“Okay, I’ll be waiting at the train station for you.” She chuckled at his gesture.
“Silly, I remember where you live. You don’t have to pick me up.”
“Oh but I do. I can’t have you walking about the streets carrying a bunch of luggage. I’ll be there to pick you up and that’s that.” She heaved a sigh, giving up yet again.
“Okay, well, I’ll go get ready and pack my things.” The smile again.
“Okay Kara.” There was a pause for a moment before she could pull the phone away from her ear.
“Hey Kara!”
“Yeah?” Another short pause.
“I love you sis.” She was taken aback for a moment before smiling.
“I love you too.”
She didn’t hang up until she heard him put the phone on the hook to be sure that he was finished. She had gone to her room earlier in the conversation to grab some clothes to put on. She now rushed about in a bathrobe gathering what was important into a suitcase and leaving everything that wasn’t. She felt bad for being so eager to leave behind the last bit of her mother she possessed, but she was desperate for someone to be there for her, loneliness drove her now. She stood by the door, two suitcases next to her, as she looked about the now empty apartment. Nothing but the furniture sat quietly, silently. She walked slowly to her room seemingly in a daze as she threw on some jeans, a tank top, and a Levi jacket.
She walked to each room in remembrance, stopping last in her mother’s old bedroom. She had left everything the way it had been, not wanting to move a thing out of place as if her mother would walk right through that door. She picked up the picture that was sitting on the bedside table and gazed at the photo. She was so young then, as they sat on a bench in the zoo. She looked happy, she had hoped her mother was happy with her. She shook the thoughts out of her head as she went to the door and gave the room a final farewell before bolting down the stairs suitcases in hand. It was twelve in the afternoon by the time she told her building manager that she was leaving, and to auction her furniture and send her the bill to her new address she would send him when she could. Her suddenness of her exit startled him but he let her go without question as she quickly went to the street to walk to the station. The way she figured it, she would arrive there by one and then be at Jackson City by five.
Once at the station she sat on a bench and waited for the line to die down a bit before she went to buy her ticket. The kind woman took the last of her money and gave her what seemed like the greatest gift in the world. It was a ticket back to her happier life, back to her days when she had a family, back to when Daniel loved her as a sister undyingly.
The train arrived on schedule as she climbed aboard, feeling alone in a crowd of people just trying to get away from the town she used to call home. Now it seemed like a life sucking monster, the more time she spent there alone the more she wanted to disappear. She decided on her long trip that if she had stayed any longer she would have vanished, lived day by day instead of year by year. She would have spread herself so thin and not fought back against it had she not called Daniel. She smiled to herself at that thought. Even when he isn’t there he still saves her from the bad guys.
Once seated Kara stared out her window and waited for the train to start on its way. It wasn’t long before the train filled itself and the wheels began to turn and chug with squealing effort. She got comfortable in her seat, the ride would be long, and she could sleep until she got there. She yawned as she slouched a little; it wasn’t like she had gotten any sleep the night before.
Daniel had spoke of his years away from her sparingly. He would tell her a story here or there but so many breaks in the timeline were apparent to her. Holes and gaps spanning over a year even were kept from her. She knew he was hiding his past from her, but she didn’t feel she had the right to prod at him. If he wished to tell her then he could, and if not, then she would live with it. He also told her that he was working as a detective for the police department. He was very proud of his job and told her about it for hours during the conversation.
“Riding alone miss?” A young man just a few years older than herself bent down to speak to her quietly as the train moved. She smiled to him, snapping out of her daydream once more.
“Yes sir.” He smiled kindly to her, she knew immediately his intentions.
“Mind if I sit?” She shook her head at him and went back to staring intently out the window as he took the seat across from her. She could feel his eyes fixated on her but she chose to ignore him.
“Where are you headed to?” She looked back at him.
“To Jackson City. I’m meeting my brother there.” He smiled at her words obviously trying to show interest.
“Has it been long since you’ve seen him?” She didn’t look at him this time, just stared out the window as a small smile pulled at her lips.
“Five years last month.” She sighed heavily and lowered her voice to herself. “Five long years.”
Her newfound companion silenced after that, allowing her mind to drift again. She always found it so easy to let her mind float along any trail it wished when she was riding. Whether it be in a car or a train it made no difference, and steady chugging of the locomotive aided in the easing of her mind away from her. She drifted from the apartment she had abandoned that morning, and the school she was leaving. She sighed at that thought. She didn’t fit in well there; no one spoke to her, but mostly because she was seemingly unapproachable. It was something about her that people saw and avoided, or just didn’t see her at all.
“You want a pillow? You look like you’re about to drift off.” Her companion handed her a small down pillow with a kind smile and she took it thankful to him. She propped it against her window and rested her head against it, slowly nodding off to the steady churn of the train.
