Chapter 31- Fortunes and Family

Another chapter up! Sweet! Enjoy while I work on the next one, which makes some more use of that M/F you see in my description.

Chapter 31

Finally down from the mountain, everyone seemed pleased to put it all behind them. All but Jessica, who was still troubled by John\'s words. Clearly, something had shooken him enough to say such a thing. For he was always the one who showed the most excitement when it came to traveling. Having lived in his sheltered village for so long, and never once seing the outside world, it was quiet surprising to hear him silent as they left the mountain\'s shadow and were back into the open plains.

Aivon had apparently noticed this for he confronted Jessica about it soon after they had reached the mountain\'s base.

\"Jessica, is something wrong?\"

\"Wha-? Oh no... it\'s nothing.\"

\"Don\'t say that. You\'ve been bugged about something ever since we left Karin\'s place. Come to think of it, John looks a bit... out of it himself.\"

\"I guess he\'s just worried.\"

\"And what about you?\"

Jessica nibbled a bit on her lip before answering. \"Well... truthfully, I am a bit nervous about what lies ahead. But I\'m more worried about John.\"

Aivon went into deep thought about this. \"Well... We should be coming up across a town soon...\" But he let his voice trail away and the conversation had ended.

Just as Aivon had said, there was a town. A few people were out, walking and talking with friends, others buying things. John gazed at them all in turn. A man walked by and John was about to ask him something, when he looked like he was frightened and rushed off screaming. They all looked perplexed at this, as everyone turned to see them all, a bit weary and hungery.

\"Demon!\" someone had shouted, in instantly, Aivon had been surrounded by the villagers.

\"That was fast...\" Aivon muttered under his breath. Truthfully, no one had every caught on to his demon blood, but he assumed there was always a first time. \"Pleas,e I mean no harm...\"

\"Lair!\" someone had shouted, and the crowd roared it\'s approval. \"You\'ve come back, evil one!\"

\"Come back? What are you talking about? I\'ve never-\"

\"Silence!\" The crowd looked ready to charge him down, had not the one\'s nearest jumpped back in fear. A burnned mark on the ground showed where John had fired his warning shot. He raised his hand to the crowd, letting the magic inside him flow.

\"That\'s enough. I don\'t know what your thinking, attacking an innocent person like that, but you\'ve got some nerve.\" John looked angry, angrier then he had ever been before. \"Now, explain yourselves. We just came into town and you think of attacking one of my companions...\"

The rest of his words were drowned out by a puzzled expression on his face. For everyone had started to bow and look upon the three like they had been sent from some heavenly place... which, in Jessica\'s case at least, they were right.

\"Are we missing something or what...\" Jessica asked, but the man nearest them got up and bowed.

\"Sir! We had no idea.. that you chosen ones would come... please... forgive us!\"

\"Chosen- what? Hold on, what are you talking about?\"

\"It was forseen that three warroirs would rise from beyond the moutains and end this menance upon our town... for some time now, we have been plaqued by a demon that wishes to conquer us and make us his slaves. We thought... your companion there might have been one of them, but we were mistaken...\"

Aivon looked a bit shocked, and John and Jessica looked ot him strangely. \"Uhh... Aivon? You ok?\"

Aivon shook his head. Here!? Now!? Of all possible times... \"Excuse me... John Jessica, you go into town... I need to take of something... important.\" Jessica reached out to stop him. but Aivon moved out of her grasp. \"No, I must do this alone. Please understand. In the meantime Jessica, I think you had best remedy your situation first, before worrying about my burdens.\" John looked to Jessica strangely about this, while Aivon started to walk off. \"I\'ll meet you back here tomarrow.\"

\"Come on John...\" Jessica lead John into the town, where people were now looking at them, some of them with great joy on thier faces, others whispering things. \"Wow, it\'s like we are heroes...\"

\"Considering all we did was help out Aivon? Wow, I wish ever town treated us this way...\"

They both retired to an inn, where the innkeeper had allowed them a room for free, despite wishing to pay for it. Obviously not used to such treatment, they retired into the room, which had happened to be on e of the best they had. It seemed they were really going to go all out on their \'guests\'.

\"I wonder if they expect us to take care of that demon...\"

\"We have to.\" John said. \"And not because it\'s to repay for everything they are doing.\"

\"Why is it then?\"

\"Because... I think Aivon knows what\'s really going on.\"

Aivon stood on the open field and looked toward the mountainside. There, far off in the distance, was a cave, but not an ordinary one. It looked man-made, or probably demon made. He sighed and pondered going there now and alone. He didn\'t know if he would survive, and the others expected him back in the morning.

\"Time for you to see what has become of your son... dad.\"
