Ch. 1
Moving to Brensdale
Calista Dawson woke up to the sound of the train whistle. She dreamt again. Only it wasn’t a dream. It really did happen. 13 years ago she and her sisters were torn apart by an evil force. Calista was 13 then. Now 26, she was heading out to a small community it upper state New York called Brensdale. She learned that they had several job openings at the university there. But the biggest reason for moving there was because, she’s learned that her youngest sister lived up there. Several years ago, Calista begun searching for her long, lost sisters and found them. Also, out of the 5 sisters, Calista was the only one with memories of their childhood. Her parents purposely blocked out her other sisters’ memories so they could live a normal life on Earth. Calista, being the eldest, was chosen to remember in hopes of uniting them again for the same evil that destroyed their home would find them eventually. During that time, Calista practiced on her light magical skills as well as the other elements for she was to re-teach her sisters for they would eventually remembered everything from their past. Like all her sisters, Calista was adopted and lived with a family on Earth. Her adopted family never knew of her background and Calista never told them for Earthlings in general were too grounded to believe in alternate universes. She loved her adopted family since they were the only ones she could cling too. Even though Calista considered herself strong mentally, the lose of her ‘real’ family left an emptiness inside of her. Calista adapted to Earth exceptionally well and thrived. She spend her teenage years in Wyoming. She did so well in school that she graduated Cum Laude with a PhD in World Literature this spring. She also decided to teach it and received numerous invitations from some of the best universities in the USA and even several overseas. Now Calista was on her way to the small town of Brensdale and she was thrilled. She recently got her list of students and her sister was one of them. Calista researched as much as she could on all of her sisters. Thank goodness that she was transported to the age of the Internet. Ariana, now known as Ariana Kellson, was a Theatre major with the hopes of becoming director or screen writer. She was already working on her own films and volunteered at the local theater. This information did not surprise Calista for Ariana used to play dress up and used her magic artistically. Ariana was 21 and will be graduating this year. Calista was really glad that she was able to catch her before her sister could move on.
Calista was snapped out of her reverie when the whistle blew again and the announcer replied over the intercom, “All passengers, next stop is Brensdale. Repeat, next stop is Brensdale.”
Calista felt the eagerness and nervousness swelled through her. She began to get her things together. The rest of her luggage was in another part of the train and would be brought out when she got off. 5 minutes later Calista found herself at the bus stop of Brensdale. She smelled the air around her and it’s crisp and clear. Few of the leaves already began to turn colors. The surroundings soothed Calista. How she loved nature.
“Miss Dawson?” replied a voice.
Calista turned to see a man with wavy sandy blonde hair and gray eyes. He stood at 6’ and reminded Calista of a seasoned warrior, only in jeans.
“Yes?” Calista asked.
“Good day, Ms. Dawson. My name is Lloyd Sanders. We talked over the phone remember? I am here to help you with your luggage and give you the keys to your new place.” Lloyd said.
“Oh yes! Thank-you so much, Mr. Sanders.” smiled Calista as she offered her hand. Lloyd took it and shook it.
“Call me Lloyd. My truck is part on the other side. Let me give you and hand here.” Lloyd grabbed her heaviest suitcases.
Calista had a moving truck moved her furniture to her new place already.
“You must call me Calista than. If I remember right you own the only restaurant in town right?”
“Yes, ma’am! You should stop by some time. We cook anything from lobster to steak.”
Soon they made it to his Ford F-250. Lloyd put her luggage into the back seat before opening the passenger for Calista and offered a hand. Calista smiled before letting him help her up. At 5’8”, Calista could certainly climb, but she decided to indulged the man. After getting settled, Lloyd went to the other side and climbed in before setting off.
“Have you lived in Brensdale all your life?” Calista asked.
“Yes, born and bred. And you’re a Wyoming girl right? That’s a ways to travel. If you don’t mind me asking, why out here?”
“Well, I wanted to find a place where I go grow and I felt at home here when I saw the brochures. And can you keep a secret?”
“Anything. Scouts honor.”
“Well, I was adopted and was searching for my biological sisters. I found out one of them lives here. That’s the real reason why I came.”
It didn’t hurt to help him some of the truth.
“That’s incredible! Does she live with your biological parents?”
“No, my parents are gone. My sisters and I were separated.”
“Oh sorry to hear that. Well, here we are.”
The house was a two story country cottage. When Calista was looking for a place to live on the Internet, this was the first house she saw and fell in love with it at first sight. She also got a good feeling about it and Calista had always trusted her gut instinct rather than facts. The house sat on 3 acres of land. So it was perfect for her to practice her magic cause the last thing she needed was people getting suspicious. The land itself had a garden that needed some attention. And it was full of trees. Lloyd helped Calista out of the truck and the two got her luggage inside. Calista inhaled the scent of her new home. She felt a stir of magic in the air. She read up on local folklore of the area and learned from hidden sources that it used to be the home of some witches years ago. So there was defiantly magic here, which would greatly help her sisters regain their powers.
“So do you need any help unpacking?” Lloyd asked her.
“No thank-you. But if I do need any help with anything, I’ll let you know.”
“Very well than. Tomorrow my brother and I will drop off your car that you ordered. I hope you’ll be patient ‘til then.”
“Ha ha, patience is one of my virtues. Thank you for all your help Lloyd.”
Calista held out her hand.
Lloyd took it and replied, “Welcome to Brensdale, Calista.”
