Chapter Two

It had taken her two weeks to pack everything she might possibly need for this trip. It was going to be 3 weeks long and they were staying at a cabin somewhere just north of Orlando. They hadn\'t planned an itinerary, preferring to \"wing it\" as David had stated in his detailed email. Just as Rae had thought, her mother was thrilled with the idea of her going with the Shapiros, and her sister was upset that Michelle hadn\'t chosen her as the obvious choice to go as well. Rae on the other hand, didn\'t understand what she was complaining about, since she had recently been given a car for her birthday, a fact that she gleefully rubbed in Rae\'s face every chance she got.

She had finally gotten all of her things downstairs and after much yelling to her mother that she was going to miss her flight, she was in the car and on her way to the airport, and finally on her non-stop flight to Orlando. David and family were already down at the cabin and settled in, deciding to visit family on the way down, so they would pick Rae up at the airport as soon as she landed. It certainly made things easier that way, since she wouldn\'t have to be there for the ugly bickering of whose room is whose and so on. The Shapiros had a bad habit of getting very loud when 2 or more of them could be found together, a problem she had first hand experience with.

Rae\'s plane touched down just before 4 o\'clock in the afternoon and as she stepped out of the terminal she caught sight of David\'s gangly frame jumping up and down trying to see over the crowd of people gathered on the other side of the metal detectors. She grinned when he saw her, incapable of responding to his very child-like impatience. He grabbed her by the waist and swung her around like she was 4 again, which was no small feat as she was slightly more overweight than she probably should be. She had been hoping to knock off her Freshman Fifteen this summer.

Ducking around tourists in very cliched hawiian shirts they made their way to baggage claim, only to have to stand in a larger crowd. It took a while for her bags to make it around the conveyer belt, so Rae shot the breeze with David while they waited, giving a detailed update of her very uneventful flight down. She had made a funny joke about pesky waitresses on their way out to the car and laughed all the way through short term parking. They stopped in front of a very sporty looking red convertible and he popped the trunk and fitted her bags into it, commenting on the sheer size and weight of them. \"What can I say,\" she laughed, \"my sister wanted to come too, and she was desperate!\" David chuckled and asked her, \"All set?\"

They got into the car and pulled out of the lot, deciding that the weather was much too nice to leave the top up, and were soon cruising down the highway blasting their favorite classic rock music and singing at the top of their voices. Rae was really glad she had decided to come and was really looking forward to the three week\'s vacation ahead of her.

After about twenty minutes of singing, David turned down the music and turned to her. Rae sensed that he had something important to tell her, so she didn\'t object too much to the change of volume. \"So what do you want to do first?\" he inquired finally, grinning widely and glancing her way in between concentrating on the road in front of them.

\"I don\'t know,\" she said seriously. \"What is there to do around here besides going to the theme parks? I don\'t want to go off the bat and then have it get old. Plus, I should really unpack and get myself situated in my room, and it\'s almost dinner time.\"

\"I thought of that,\" he said. \"There\'s a great place up here about 5 minutes from where we are now. They\'ve got the greatest steaks imaginable and I hear karaoke night\'s tonight as well.\" He winked at her, he knew how much she liked showing off her vocal talents. Rae grinned back at him. \"Looks like we\'ve got a winner.\"

The restaurant was packed, which was not surprising given David\'s evaluation of the place. The wait was 20 minutes. \"Well worth the wait,\" David responded to the hostess, who smiled in acknowledgment and handed them a beeper to tell them when their table was ready. They found a seat outside on one of the wooden benches and discussed living arrangements. Apparently Rae was to be sharing a room with Jeff, since his female friend was along with them and David wasn\'t comfortable with them sharing a room together even if they were \"just friends\". He was, though, out for the next two weeks road tripping with her and would be gone for most of the vacation besides. Michelle, he explained, was out visiting other relatives of her mother\'s, ones David didn\'t like very much and he had opted not to go, using Rae\'s arrival as an excuse.

The beeper went off, and they squeezed themselves inside again and to the hostess, who was holding menus and gesturing for them to follow her. Her words couldn\'t be heard over the noise of the restaurant. They were seated, given menus, and the hostess hurried off to get their drinks.

Dinner went on without a hitch, and they stayed in the restaurant much longer than their food lasted them. Rae was a big hit up on the stage and she kept being called back by tables around them. It was around 8 when they staggered out into the fresh air again, and they bore witness to the beautiful sunset outside. They got back in the car and pulled out of the parking lot and in almost no time at all David pulled up to a pretty house with wood tone siding and hunter green shutters. \"This is it\" said David, responding to Rae\'s unasked question. She smiled back at him and opened the car door, stepping outside to get a better look. David grabbed her bags and they made their way to the front door and, with much juggling of luggage and keys, the finally entered into the house.

The first thing she remembered thinking was that it was very spacious. It had high ceilings and a fireplace in the family room. The kitchen was huge, which she appreciated, and bedrooms stemmed off on one wing of the house. David showed Rae where she would be sleeping and she marveled to herself how Jeff had not only managed to take up most of the dresser space, but also the bigger of the two beds. She turned to David to remark on this, but he had already retreated to the main part of the house. He yelled for her to come back to the living room as soon as she was settled.

Rae unpacked as best she could, grabbed a book and made her way back to the kitchen where she found David hovering over a wine bottle and two glasses. \"Would you like some?\" he asked her when he saw her standing in the doorway.

\"Sure,\" she replied, laughing. \"Just don\'t tell my mother, I think she would have a cow. She\'s the only one in my family who doesn\'t like to realize that I drink at college, too.\" She took the procured glass from his hand and made her way to the living room, where she realized her favorite jazz band was playing on the sound system. He had lit a fire, dimmed the lights, and created a very soothing environment. David sat on a over stuffed arm chair and gestured for her to sit across from him on the equally over stuffed couch.

He asked her about school. \"Oh, it\'s fine, I\'m just glad that classes are over.\" And her latest crush. \"No one of interest quite yet, although I\'m thinking of getting back together with one of my ex\'s.\" About her home life. \"It\'s a constant struggle, you know that, but things are okay as long as we avoid each other.\" And about her other plans for the summer. \"Well, apart from this trip I haven\'t really thought about it. I\'ll be working very hard and trying to make money for next semester.\"

Conversation finally dropped off, and Rae started feeling very tired. David had been refilling her glass the entire night, and she had no idea how much she had had. Across from her, David watched as the pill he had snuck into her drink finally started working on her. Soon she was snoring softly on the couch, slumped over a cushion and empty glass still in hand. He took it from her fingers and set it down on the coffee table. He lifted her off of the couch, carried her to his bedroom and deposited her onto his very large bed. Rae shifted in her sleep, and he very carefully stripped her of all clothing, sucking in his breath as the last piece was removed. She looked just like he had imagined her. He reached a hand toward her and pulled the covers up over her body, reminding himself that there would be much more time for play. He stripped as well and got into the other side of the bed, watching her sleep peacefully next to him. She would not be waking up for some time. Finally he drifted off, too, thinking of plans for the next day.
