Last time on “Placid Falls”:

“Yeah, all guys that fuck the blonde, big-tittied captain of the college cheerleading squad are queer. I read that in the Rainbow Handbook somewhere…” Elliot said sarcastically.

“Yeah, but do said cheerleader humpers keep gay porn in their garage?”

Elliot’s kohl rimmed eyes glistened with interest…

EPISODE 2

Davi crept into her dark house, hoping not to disturb her dad. She was well over 3 hours past her midnight curfew, and was hoping to sneak in unnoticed.

She got to the first step of the stairs when a voice behind her called.

“Davila Alvarado…kitchen…NOW.”

She clicked her tongue to her teeth and rolled her eyes, bounding into the kitchen with all the attitude she could muster.

“Look, dad, I was with Daron, so I wasn’t really violating curfew, I was with family.”

“You need to be home AT midnight, family or no family. Besides, Daron is not a very good influence on you. It’s thanks to his influence you are a year behind in school. Following in his footsteps got you suspended for a whole school year.”

“No, I got suspended because I was making out with Renee Dennison behind the bleachers and got caught.”

“That’s right. Trying to be like your queer brother. But, just because you’re twins doesn’t mean you have to walk the same path of iniquity that he is. I had hoped keeping you two apart would cleanse you of that, and I can only hope it’s worked. I can’t tell you not to see him, but I can tell you I don’t like it.”

“Oh my God, dad… ‘Path of iniquity‘?! You sound just like Elliot’s dad.”
“Yes, and look at how Elliot is turning out! He’s a living, breathing example of what it’s like to walk in Christ’s example. I only hope you come to the same place in your own life, Davila.”

“Are we done here? It’s exhausting walking in my brother’s ‘path of iniquity’, and I’d like to go to bed.”

Davi’s father sighed deeply, running his fingers through his graying black hair.

“Yes, we’re done. But, next time you violate your curfew, you’ll be grounded indefinitely, understood?”

“Yeah, sure. Good night.”

Davi stomped up to her room, counting the seconds in her head until she graduated high school, and was free from her paternally inflicted prison of prejudice.

She changed into her favorite red plaid flannel pajama pants and a white cotton cami.

She sat in the dark, on her bed, weeping softly. She loathed her dad’s point of view, and it pained her more deeply that he honestly thought he had her best interests at heart by hating everything she was…everything her brother was.

She drifted off in thought when she heard familiar footfalls on the ladder by her bedroom window.

“Davi!” a voice whispered sharply, “Are you awake?”

“If I wasn’t, I would be now. Who’d have thought it was possible to scream and whisper at the same time?” Davi quipped.

“Sorry…” the voice replied, as the softly rounded figure made its way to Davi’s bed, settling beside her.

“What’s wrong, Em? Couldn’t sleep?”

Emily fiddled with the hem of her black skirt.

“Naw…I just…You know…missed you…”

Davi took in a sharp breath.

“It’s good to know somebody misses me when I’m away.”

Emily caressed Davi’s cheek.

“I would miss you, a whole lot! Oh, Davs, have you been crying?”

“Yeah, my stupid fucking dad.”

“I know how you feel. Can I ask you something? It’s a bit off-topic, but I’m curious.”

“Sure, Em, what?”

“Uhm…Are you positive it was gay porn in Damian’s garage?”

“If men putting their cocks into other men’s puckered ass holes constitutes as ‘gay porn’, then yeah, that’s exactly what it was, why?”

“Because…Oh, never mind…”

“Ok, Emily, let’s not play the ‘back and forth’ game…just spit it out, so I can tell you ‘no’…”

Emily chuckled nervously, fiddling with her fiery red hair.

“Well…You see…Elliot has a bit of a crush on Damian, and if it’s possible he’s gay, and you really love me, you might put in a good word for Elliot at the next band practice?” Emily inquired, biting her bottom lip nervously.

“Em? I HATE Elliot, he hates me, and on that principal alone I’d say ‘no fucking way’, not to mention I quit the band today.”

“Elliot doesn’t hate you, he’s just protective of me, and why‘d you quit?”

“Damian is an egotistical prick, and I’m tired of his bullshit.”

“But, you quit every week, Davs. PLEASE go back and put in a good word for Elliot, PLEASE? Think about this…If you get Elliot and Damian together, maybe it’ll cool out Damian’s attitude a bit, hmmm?”

“All right, but I’ll have to verify that Damian is even gay at all. I mean, it might not have even been his gay porn. I didn’t ask him about it, or anything.”

“You…didn’t?” Emily asked, eyes growing wide.

“No! I was going to, but when I was ready. Why does it matter?”

“No…reason. Look, Davs, I gotta go, but I’ll see you at school tomorrow.” Emily spat out hurriedly, kissing Davi quickly, and retreating down Davi’s ladder.

“What the fuck was that all about?” Davi inquired aloud to no one, shrugging her shoulders and settling in to sleep.

Damian sat on his amplifier, playing a song he wrote for his picture perfect girlfriend, Renee.
Renee was slender, shapely, buxom, blue eyed and peroxide blonde. Her teeth were cosmetically white, and her skin unrealistically flawless.

It boggled many a-male mind of Placid Falls why she wasted her time with one who they labeled the “German reject” due to his barely concealable German accent.

But, she loved him since junior high, and never saw fit to pair up with the obnoxious jocks that all tried to lay their claim to her as privilege of their so-called “status”.

As the last note of Damian’s song rang out, Renee applauded him, holding him close.

“God, Dami, you are so talented. I can’t wait until you’re famous.”

“Let’s not get ahead of ourselves, it’s just a garage band, Renee.” Damian replied humbly.

“Maybe, but with you at the helm, you’re bound for success, baby.” Renee encouraged, kissing Damian softly.

Just then they heard footsteps crunching their way up the street.

Damian stood up, setting his guitar on its stand.

He pressed the button to open the garage door, looking to see what lunatic was wandering around his neighborhood this time of night.

He saw a pale form in the shadows, and began to inch over toward a nearby, long forgotten solid wood baseball bat, prepared to defend his household.

Before long he put a name to the mysterious form that approached him.

“Elliot, what the fuck do you want this time of night?!” Damian snipped.

“Can I talk to you in private, Damian?” Elliot asked meekly, arms folded tightly around himself.

“Anything you say to me can be said in front of my girlfriend…” Damian hissed, still suspicious.

“Look, Dami, I gotta run anyways, I have cheer practice in the morning. I’ll see you tomorrow.” Renee stated, kissing Damian softly, then after a squeeze of his hand she got into her purple PT Cruiser and headed for home.

Damian stayed his ground, hand resting loosely on the bat.

“Well, you wanted to talk, Choir Boy, so talk.” he urged.

Elliot jumped a bit, shrinking away, unable to even look Damian in the eye as he spoke, terrified of what he might see.

He took a deep breath, swallowed hard, then softly spoke.

“Uhm…I heard from a…source that…that you…”

“That I do WHAT, Elliot?” Damian asked growing more and more aggravated.

“You see, I’m asking you to make sure it’s true, I’m not saying it is, or anything…” Elliot stammered, hands shaking.

“Spit it the fuck out, Choir Boy, before you fucking piss yourself over it!”

“Uhm…Ok….I heard…That you have gay porn in your garage…is it true?” Elliot spat out, recoiling in fear the instant he asked as if Damian would lash out the instant the words were spoken.

“What? Who the fuck told you that?! Davi?! Emily?!” Damian shouted.

“Look, Damian, I didn’t mean anything by it, I was just wondering because…”

“Because you think I’m a fucking faggot, is that it?!” Damian bristled.

“No, if you’re not, it’s…I was just…I‘m not calling you a faggot, Damian…” Elliot plead in his defense.

“You are accusing me of having queer porn, that’s calling me a faggot, you piece of shit!”

“Damian, forget I said anything, ok? Forget it…” Elliot trembled, slowly backing away, eyes welling with tears of growing terror.

“Oh no, Elliot…Let‘s not forget about it. You call me a faggot, you fucking pay for it!” Damian challenged, grabbing the bat in one hand, forcing Elliot to the ground with the other.

***************************************************************
Emily had just come over the hill on which one of Placid Falls’ wealthiest sections of town sat.

She ran hurriedly to Damian’s house afraid Elliot was going to do something he’d regret.

She heard screams as she approached Damian’s house, and ran as fast as her short, stocky legs could carry her.

“Damian, don’t!” she howled, far too late as Damian sent the bat crashing down once, twice, a third time on Elliot’s head, each time drawing more cries and blood.

“Emily go away, or I swear to Christ you’re next!” Damian threatened, face speckled with Elliot’s blood, eyes crazed.

“Damian, what he fuck’s your problem?!” Emily heard Davi calling from behind her.

“You told Emily, didn’t you Davi? You’re the only one who’s always in my garage! I ought to beat your dyke ass too!”

“Davi, how’d you know?” Emily asked softly.

Davi glared at Emily.

“Emily, run! Get the fuck out of here, call the cops!”

Emily looked at Elliot a moment, and when she felt sure she saw him breathing, she ran as fast as she could for the nearby police station.

Davi bounded toward Damian.

“Back the fuck off, Davi!” Damian warned, bat held high, lower lip quivering.

“Give me the fucking bat, Damian.”

“I’ll give it to you upside your fucking head!” he threatened.

Davi grabbed Damian by his ponytail, wrestling the bat from him, bashing his head against the brick side of his house until he was unconscious.

Davi dropped down to where Elliot barely clung to life.

“Hang in there, Elliot…Help is coming, soon I hope.”

Davi’s eyes flooded with tears. Never before had she seen such cruelty up close, and in gurgling crimson on oily concrete.

Sirens screamed over the hill as police and an ambulance sped to the biggest house in Placid Falls, the Metzger estate.

The estate where they found two young boys unconscious and blood stained, two awakened parents rushing for the front yard, unaware of what has transpired, and many questions left unanswered…

…The most profound of which consists of a singular word…

“Why?”
