**Chapter Two**

**Chapter Two**

With a small groan, Jayden slowly opened his eyes and looked around. There was a dull ache in his head, but other than that, he was fine. Except for the fact that he had no clue where he was.

Running a hand through his hair, he slowly sat up and looked around. He was in what looked like an apartment. Or the living room of it, at least. He was stretched out on a soft couch, facing a fireplace. The entire room was done in shades of red and black. It should have looked like a dark, gothic room, but for some reason it looked…almost welcoming.

Jayden slowly stood up and walked over to the fireplace, looking around. Nothing about this place was familiar. He walked back to the couch, running over the events of last night in his mind. The ritual, the fog, then they’d left…and he’d started feeling tired. What had happened?

“Zach? Are you here?” he called, praying that they’d just ended up in one of Zach’s friends apartments again. “Zach…if you’re here, answer me!”

“Zach isn’t here. Just you.”

Jayden jumped and quickly turned around, trying to place where that soft voice was coming from. He backed up so he was against the wall, his hands clenched as he fought his fear.

“Who are you? Where the hell am I? Where’s Zach?” he asked quickly, squinting and trying to get a better look around the room. The faint light from the fire didn’t illuminate even half of the room, though.

Damean laughed and kept back in the shadows, using the opportunity to study the boy near the fireplace. Awake, he was even more captivating. He could feel the boy’s pain coming off of him in waves. His soul drew the demon’s attention almost as much as those strong emotions.

“Calm down. You’re safe. I’m not going to hurt you,” he said, finally stepping out of the shadows so the boy could see him. No sense in alarming him anymore than necessary.

Jayden jumped and turned around again. How had the man gotten on the over there? He could’ve sworn the voice was coming from the other side of the room…

“Who are you? Tell me where I am,” he ordered, his voice as firm as he could make it. He clenched his fists and dug his nails into his palms to keep himself from staring when the man stepped into the firelight.

Then again, perhaps ‘man’ didn’t quite describe him. The figure in front of him was almost inhumanly pale. His face was framed by long black hair that fell halfway down his back. He was easily six feet tall, making him at least six inches taller than Jayden.

What stood out the most, though, was his eyes. They were a deep, dark shade of emerald green, so powerful they seemed almost to glow. Jayden dug his nails in harder to keep himself from being drawn into those dark depths.

Damean smirked and stopped moving, amused by the boy’s reaction. He was used to it by now. Most humans acted that way when they first saw one of his kind.

“What’s your name, human?” he asked quietly, still not moving.

Those soft words jerked Jayden out of his daze. He shook his head and took a small step back to try and clear his mind.

“J-Jayden,” he said before he could even consider lying. He didn’t know who this man was, didn’t know what his plans were, but…for some reason, he wanted to tell him everything…

“Jayden. A very nice name,” Damean said approvingly. It seemed to fit the boy, too. With that shaggy blonde-brown hair and those piercing blue eyes, he seemed almost angelic. He definitely didn’t belong here. It would take a better demon than Damean to let him go yet, though.

“So, Jayden. Since you were so kind, I’ll return the favor,” he said, taking a small step towards the shaking boy. “My name is Damean. You’re in my home. And your friend Zach is long gone, I’m afraid.”

Jayden took a step back, quickly searching the room for an exit. He had to get out of here. This Damean guy was obviously crazy.

“What do you mean, ‘Zach’s long gone’? He wouldn’t just leave me here,” he protested, moving around so he was on the opposite side of the room from Damean. Where the hell was the front door?!

“He didn’t leave you. I brought you here. He has no knowledge of that fact,” Damean said with an easy shrug, walking across the room and standing right in front of Jayden, lightly brushing the boy’s mind and ‘suggesting’ he stay where he was.

“And…where exactly…is here?” Jayden asked softly, paralyzed by fear. Damean was practically on top of him. He tried to move, but his brain couldn’t seem to process that.

“We’re in my world. My home,” Damean said with a shrug, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. He held back a small smirk at the look on Jayden’s face.

“Your world? What do you mean? This is insane. You’re insane. Let me out of here. I’m leaving,” Jayden said, his words coming so fast they practically ran together. He tried to move away from Damean, but nothing he did mattered. He was still paralyzed in that one spot.

“You honestly don’t know?” Damean asked, amused. “Your friend Zach went out of his way to summon me and you don’t know what’s going on? And here I thought you were bright,” he said with a smirk, a hint of a challenge in his voice.

Jayden stared up at him, sapphire meeting emerald. No way. This wasn’t happening. This wasn’t real. There were no such things as demons. Especially not a demon like this.

“You’re…an incubus? It worked?” he asked, his voice hoarse with shock and disbelief. An incubus…a demon that lurked in nightmares and turned the best dreams into nightmares of pain and fear. A demon that thrived on the pain of others. A demon that lived for seduction and the conquest of its victims.

“Incubus…yes, I suppose that’s what I am. It’s as good a word as any,” Damean said with a shrug, carefully studying Jayden to gauge his reaction. It was typical. The boy was terrified. He bit his lip hard and tried to move again, but Damean had too much control over him.

“Please…he didn’t mean it. It was just a joke. It wasn’t supposed to work. Just…let me go,” he pleaded softly, unable to pull his eyes away from the demon in front of him. He knew he sounded pathetic, but he didn’t care. This was just too much right now.

“It may have started as just a joke, but you summoned me. Now I’m bound to you until I’ve done whatever you summoned me to do,” Damean said with a shrug. Jayden’s eyes widened and he fought again to move, actually managing a small step back before he was stopped. He knew the legends of the incubus…
