Chapter 2- The mistake

ok this is the second chapter, but it\'s still my first story, so i would appreciate reviews and comments. :)

Victor was still dragging her along when they crossed into the reception area of his home. Anele couldn\'t help staring at all of the gold pieces on the shelves and in the glass cases. Paintings lined the beautiful walls and expensive-looking carpets were strewn all across the floor. Even for as simpleEvanEvan looked, Victor and his family, however, liked to show their luxury in their clothing. His family was, in fact, richer than any yet to be seen.

\"You\'ve never been in our house, have you?\" Victor asked fondly, after they had come to a stop.

Still staring around at the walls, Anele answered, \"Well, no. But it seems your family has done well for itself. I have seldom seen this much gold. Very few times have I come across a family who would so blatantly show their wealth.\"

\"Oh this was not father\'s idea. It was mine. I like for people to see how much wealth we contain, then they would not dare to challenge anything we say.\"

And with that, Victor whipped around and wrapped his arms around her waist. She had also never met anyone as smug with himself as Victor was. No doubt this was the way he was going to be for the rest of his life. Standing as she was, Anele leaned away, pushing at his shoulders, trying to move out of his arms, but her tries were in vain. Her unique gray eyes shot cold daggers of hate towards him and, at this, she thought she saw a wisp of fear on his face indicating that he might have been able to feel the utter wrath emanating from her.

\"Victor, of course no one would dare challenge you. But you mistake the reason behind their timidity. They are not in awe of your wealth… They despise you because you are a pompous pig who only cares about what he wants and what is best for \"
\"

What happened next, Anele could not have imagined. She thought he might have lost his confidence with what she had said to him but instead of him letting her loose or getting angry with her, he, in fact, pressed his lips to hers for a brief kiss. Anele tried to push away, but all the while he became more insistent. He clung to her like a beast would when devouring its kill. The utter revulsion that she felt at his touch sent ripples of disgust coursing through her body. Try as she might, Anele\'s attempts to remove his grotesque body from hers were in vain. Her fury at this miscreant fondling her grew, so that, instead of punching him as she had been doing, she quickly brought her knee up and as it made contact with his groin, she felt him loosen his grip around her.

As Victor doubled over in pain, she fought herself free of his arms, and as she spun around to leave, she saw Evan standing in the doorway. She avoided his gaze as she made her way past all of the paintings and carpets to the entrance.

That bitch, Victor thought, HOW DARE SHE TREAT ME LIKE THIS! He had thought that she wanted him, otherwise why would she have followed him into his home.

But even as he thought this, a tiny voice in the back of his mind said, \"She didn\'t follow you, moron. You drug her here.\"

I\'ll think about that after I\'ve recovered, Victor thought, as he lay on the ground shivering in pain and clutching at his abdomen. Either way, Victor wasn\'t going to give up on her- not yet.

Fighting back a look of utter disbelief, Evan replayed the scene that had just take place before him. Staring at his older brother crumpled in a fetus position on the floor, Evan moved aside to let Anele pass as she ran down the path away from his home.

\"Can you believe that he tried that?! I knew that he wanted to marry her, but I never thought that he would resort to force,\" Evan commented as he skipped rocks into the crystalline lake. It was a beautiful day and the wind kept at a steady pace.

\"You always knew him as a pervert. Not to mention he\'s as ugly as a cow,\" Eryk said, while beating his friend\'s toss by far. Eryk was a bit older than Evan and had been his best friend since, well… forever. They spent countless days, as well as nights, talking and sharing advice on what seemed like everything. At least he understands where I\'m coming from, he thought, unlike my father.

Evan lay down on the grassy bank to stare up at the sky. If only you could have seen the disgust on her face, he thought, fighting to keep his face calm. It was obvious that she didn\'t want his paws all over her and Evan felt a surge of pride that she had at least wounded his brother is some way. Evan, himself, had done much more than that. He felt he had needed to teach Victor a lesin ein etiquette while in the presence of a lady. Eryk had seen what Evan did to Victor and the second after Victor had disappeared around the corner, he had burst into a fit of laughter.

\"Oh, but I did enjoy the sight of your brother walking around with a black eye and looking much worse for wear. He deserved it anyhow. To think that he would be so bold as to FORCE her into something. What a pig,\" Eryk commented, having laid down beside his comrade.

Evan sat up straight. After that ordeal he was sure that Anele would not be in any mood to be in the market today, but he wanted to make sure. \"Let\'s go into the village,\" Evan stated.

Both men got up and began dusting themselves off when Eryk asked, \"Why do you want to go into town for?\"

\"Because I have something that I want to check on.\" And having said that, they made their way up into the little town set among the hills of Eterna.

Eryk still had no idea as to why they were headed into the village. All he knew was that Evan seemed intent on coming here. They passed stands full of fruits and some full of breads. Along the way, they passed Evan\'s brother, who looked a horrible sight. His face was still bloody and the cavernous craters in his face did nothing to hide the swollen lip and cheeks.

\"There she is. She is walking with Ania,\" Evan whispered trying not to make it seem as if he was following her again.

Eryk strained to see whom he was speaking of and catching sight of the two women he said, \"Oh, Ania- the sma one one. Yes, Ania is quiet too, but Anele… She, my friend, could give you a run for your money.\"

\"I want to speak with her. No doubt that what Victor did put her on edge.\"

After whispering this to his companion, Evan made for Anele and Ania. Normally, Evan would never have gone to speak with her, but he felt that what had happened to her, whether it was his fault or not, warranted an apology. When he had caught up with them, he didn\'t want to startle Anele, so he spoke her name quietly.

\"Anele… I wanted to talk to you.\"

Finally, he gets up the nerve to talk to me, she thought, holding back a smile. Ania, Anele\'s closest friend who was more a sister than anything, immediately blushed at the sight of Eryk. Ania had told Anele of her \"tiny\" crush on Eryk a while ago and how she was terrified to speak to him because she didn\'t think she was up to scale. Anele had reassured her that, with her strawberry colored hair, her beautiful dark brown eyes and her almost angelic features, no man would think she was not up to scale. Anele then noticed that Eryk was eyeing Ania with the slightest hint of puzzlement at her sudden bout of shyness.

\"Why, hello Evan. I have not spoken to you in a VERY long time,\" Anele said, hiding the sliver of amusement in her silky voice.

\"Yes, I know. I\'m very sorry about that. Er… about what happened yesterday with my brother. I wanted to tell you that I\'m sorry that-\"

\"It is of no consequence,\" Anele\'s cold voice said, cutting him off. \"He was a nasty brute who got what was coming for him. You have no need to make an apology for him. It was not your fault,\" Anele continued, holding her head high.

She knew that he was a very honest man, but for him to apologize for something that his reckless brother did- well, that was just inappropriate.

\"Well then I hope we can see more of each other and spend more time together,\" Evan said to her, all the time standing amazed at how he was able to finally speak to such a beautiful creature.

Anele looked sideways towards Ania and noticed her cheeks had become rosy. Her and Eryk were apparently involved in some form of a blinking contest because neither one of them removed their eyes from the other.

\"As do I,\" Eryk interjected, taking Ania\'s hand and lightly brushing his lips against her knuckles. The moment he did this, Ania blushed all the more and even tried to stifle a giggle. Anele couldn\'t help but smile at her friend\'s delight.

\"I expect we shall meet again, m\'lord,\" and with that, Anele curtsied all the while staring into his strong, ice blue eyes. They are so beautiful and the way they offset his black hair is marvelous, she thought, gazing at his masculine face. Her situation with him had, indeed, just grown more complicated. She couldn\'t help grinning at him before setting off down the street, Ania in tow.
