Flowers Under the Moon
Chapter 1: Links
"My love," Damascus softly calls to Rachel as he sees her sitting on a bench reading something. The moonlight hits her perfectly as seems to hear him as a smile grows on her face but she continues to read. Slowly walking behind her and putting a hand on her shoulder as Damascus kisses her hair, his hand going over to lovingly stroke her cheek8.
"Damascus," she says softly as she turns around to look at him. "Is it true? Must you leave tomorrow?"
"I am afraid it is, my kitten."
"Why must you go?" She asks as a tear starts to trail down her cheek. He gently wipes it away as he moves around to sit down on the bench. "Please at least tell me why you have to go away."
He sighs as he moves her, holding her into his arms. "I have to go because of what I have become. Father had hoped that this day would never have come for me but he did not foresee what was going to happen. He did not think his thirst would overpower his mind. Now as he lies dying, his enemies move not just to take over his lands but to kill me as well. Even my own enemies' move to do so. I do not wish to go, but this is the only way I can be safe. This is also the only way you can be safe as they will hide you as well." A question starts to form on her lips as he stops it by softly pressing his finger against them. "No, we cannot be together as your family wishes to see you. You have been gone from them too long and you should give them the good news."
A servant comes out, looking towards the prince. "Whenever you are ready, your highness. King Zander wishes you make haste though and you should follow your father's orders, my prince," he adds before bowing and leaving the pair of lovers alone.
He sighs and moves one of the strands of long black hair out of his deep brown eyes. Softly kissing her lips as she kisses back in desperation of not wanting him to leave. "Please, don't go," she pleads as he stands, holding onto his hand. "Or if you must go, let me have a way to come and see you after I talk to my parents. Please my love, do this for me."
He looks into her pleading eyes and knows that he can deny her nothing. He would lay down his own life for her if she only asked for it. "I will do that for you love. I will send the sprite that protects the place I am going to and you will know her no matter what shape she takes." He takes her hand and kisses it, getting down on one knee. "I promise that if something happens to you, I will come for you. No matter what it takes. I leave you in good hands, but know that all you have to do is think of me and I will come to you, my love. I swear on my life. Now, let us have no more tears...no more good-byes," he says softly as he stands up again and letting go of her hand gently. She holds in her tears and nods as he walks off. His white coat blowing behind him as he walks, showing off the black jumpsuit underneath as his boots making clicking sounds as he walks. Not daring a look back as it will be his undoing, breaking down and staying where he will put her at more danger than just going into hiding. Her soft melodic crying reaches his ears but he must go on for her. The crying will end in time and she needs to be with her parents. His horse is brought up to as as he gently pets it, soothing it with words from a dead language.
As he gets on his horse, he falls as pain takes over all of his body. Everything dissolves until he sees his beloved chained in a dungeon. Terrified. In danger and needing him. 'I must wake up,' he hears his own voice say out loud. 'WAKE UP!'
*~*~*~*
He tumbles out of bed, taking in his surroundings. Still at the palace he was sent to where his bedroom over looks a beautiful forest. The sound of a waterfall comes back to his memory and slowly remembers what he saw in his dreams. "FAYLINN!" He shouts for she is his only link to the outside world but is she even here? "Faylinn!" He calls again, walking out of his chambers and to the main hall. In the main hall is where he finds her, sitting on the floor and sighing. "Did you not hear my call?" He asks of the sprite.
"Yes I did, but I was also trying to figure out what happened," she answers as calmly as she can.
He blinks at her and remembers what errand he sent her out to do. 'This will prove it is a dream,' he tells himself. "Where is Rachel?" He asks with a happy glint in his eyes.
"My prince, we were ambushed. I tried as hard as I could to get her here, but they caught up to us. Even a wood sprite cannot be a horse that is the wind." She looks up to Damascus and sees that the happy glint is gone, replaced by a hard angry look.
"Who were the men who ambushed you?" Faylinn backs up, as she does not want to be the one who will bear the Prince's wrath. "Who were they, Faylinn?!"
"The bore the mark of Lord Stefano Wolfwood," she says softly and tries to regain her backbone. "They also knew what I was. Keeping me alive until only one man was left as if they knew that if they killed me I would come back ten times worse. And I could not kill myself, as that would have cut my power in half. I could not help her and I am sorry for it."
"Stefano," he growls out as he runs a hand through his hair. "Do you know if she at least go to see her parents before all of this happened?"
"No," she a8nswers softly and rejectfully. "They were dead when she got there. I only managed to get there right before his men came back. The poor girl was in shock."
He barely nods to her comment. "I need to go see my father in order to get him to move down the barriers. It's the only way that I can help her."
"But my prince..."
"Do not argue with me Faylinn, just do it! And do it quickly...we are running out of time."
She nods and runs from the room to get the portal up and running.
