Apologies
Co-written with Aya
Fuji barely waited until Daisuike's door was shut to take off after Masa. He had a good three minute start on them and would make it there before them. The nauseated feeling settled even more as he heard Masa's voice over the radio.
"Fuji."
"Yeah-"
"Fuji."
Instantly he knew what Masa wanted. Grabbing the headset he put it on not letting Daisuike hear Masa any longer. After a few seconds Fuji slowed down blinking then glanced at Daisuike pulling off the closest off ramp, no where near Exit 45. Pulling to the side of the road he parked the car, slowly taking the headset off setting it on his lap. He couldn't look at Daisuike though, just gripped the steering wheel staring straight ahead in silence.
Daisuike looked around not sure why they were stopping. "Fuji . . . why are we stopping?"
He turned to look at Fuji and it hit him. "He wrecked didn't he. Those fucking god damn sons of bitches made him wreck didn't they? Turn around. Take me back. I'm going to kill every last fucking one of them. No. Take me to Ruka. I have to see Ruka first."
Then he'd kill them.
Fuji shook his head. "I- I'm not taking you to there Daisuike. We'll meet Masa at the hospital." He felt sick, exhaling slowly and resting his forehead against the steering wheel feeling like he was going to throw up. Masa had been panicked and crying on the radio and he wished he hadn't been the one to get there, wishing Masa had taken Daisuike.
"I'm sorry Daisuike." He took off towards the nearest hospital, "I really am but. . . This is what the life of a racer is. Ruka knew the risks." Biting his lip he sighed, "It's also why Masa didn't want to race against them. This wouldn't have happened if we were in our own circuit."
Daisuike wondered if Ruka had felt this panicked and helpless when he'd been hospitalized. Leaning forward in the seat he buried his face in his hands.
"It's my fault. He wouldn't have wanted to come if he hadn't gotten mad at me." He sat back not looking at Fuji. "Just let me out here. He's not going to want to see me."
Fuji's eye twitched and he growled in anger, pulling to the side of the road, but kept the doors locked so Daisuike couldn't get out. He was gripping the steering wheel, his knuckles white. He really didn't need Ruka's boyfriend going emo on him right now. He didn't know how bad Ruka was and having to deal with Daisuike was irritating him making him snap.
"If you get out of this car now, I want you to go back to Ruka's apartment, pack your shit and never see Ruka again. If you're going to just abandon him when he needs you most, I don't want you in his life. Masa will say the same thing."
Turning his head to look at Daisuike slowly, he unlocked the doors.
"The choice is yours."
Daisuike started to say something only to realize he had nothing to say. He could not abandon Ruka. No matter how Ruka felt about him, he couldn't leave. He wouldn't leave. He hung his head, his eyes closing. After a moment he shook his head. He wasn't going to get out. He was just being stupid and emotional, the stress of everything getting to him too much. Hisoka’s words had affected him far more than he wanted to realize.
"Good because if you had honestly left the car I would've gotten out and beaten the shit out of you and dragged you to the hospital anyways." Fuji slammed his foot down on the gas, needing to get to the hospital. Masa would be there by then, probably having beaten the ambulance there.
Seeing Masa's car parked outside he jerked his car into park and scrambled out of the car rushing into the hospital.
"Masa!"
"Fuji. . ." The smaller man had his head bowed and he was trying his hardest not to be crying in front of everyone but was failing miserably. Instantly he moved closer putting his arms around him.
"Hey. . .How is-"
"It's totaled."
"Not the car, how is Ruka?"
"The car's totaled. . ." Fuji could feel the shake of his friend and he sighed sitting them both down. It had to be pretty bad if Masa could only talk about the car. He tended to not talk about things that bothered him, quite literally. Fuji looked up knowing that Daisuike would be the one to go and find out information for them.
Daisuike took a shaky breath and leaving the pair he went to go find someone who could tell him something. He'd almost gotten sick on the car ride over, but it wasn't like he was going to tell Fuji to slow down. Now he felt disoriented and sick as he went to the reception desk.
"Sakata Ruka. I need to know how he is doing." Daisuike tried to keep the tremor from his voice but he was honestly more scared then he’d been in a long time.
"Sakata? Sakata. . ." The woman behind the counter looked at the records frowning, "I don't see any-"
"The racer right?" A doctor came over towards Daisuike seeing Fuji and Masa nodding, "They're getting him stable right now but that's all I can tell you since I assume you aren't family." He looked Daisuike over before bowing and walking back behind the doors.
"S-Son- Son-"
"Hush Masa. Daisuike!" Fuji motioned for Daisuike to walk over to him since Masa was clinging so tightly he could barely breathe.
"Call Sono. He has family rights with Ruka. He can get more information for us."
Daisuike nodded slowly getting his phone out. "I . . . I don't have his number."
He punched it in as Fuji rattled it off to him. He was starting to hurt all over a sharp pain in his side. He couldn't be worried about that right now. The man he loved was hurt, maybe critically and he wasn't being allowed to see him. He hit send his vision blurring.
***
Sono sighed as he laid on his bed shifting to grab his phone. Who the hell was calling him so late? Whoever was calling was on his bad side. Flipping it open he growled softly.
"What?"
He was in no mood to deal with drunken calls from friends or telemarketers.
Daisuike flinched at the gruff tone. He didn't want to talk to Sono anyway and to call him about this . . . "I . . . It's Daisuike ano . . . I'm-we are at the hospital . . . Ruka he was-he was . . . they were racing and . . . "
Daisuike bit his lip. He couldn't bring himself to say that Ruka had crashed. He felt as though the room were revolving around him, finding it difficult to breathe or even focus at this point.
"They won't let us see him."
Sono almost dropped the phone hearing Daisuike's voice. Ruka was- Hospital? He stayed frozen for a moment then instantly bolted up grabbing pants.
"Give me five minutes. What hospital?" He didn't bother masking the worry in his voice. How could that idiot be so stupid? Sono wasn't going to even start asking anything else. Not yet at least.
Daisuike looked around. He didn't even know what hospital they were at. He looked helplessly at Fuji.
"Where are we?"
He repeated to Sono what Fuji told him feeling as though he was completely displaced. As if this was all happening to someone else. It couldn't be real. It simply couldn't.
"Fine." Sono snapped the phone shut rushing out of his apartment. He was going to kill someone once he got there.
Fuji sighed resting his head against Masa who had calmed down and was just sniffling now. Each minute that ticked by seemed to take forever and once he saw Sono rushing through the doors he stood only to be ignored. He watched Sono slam his hands onto the counter demanding information about Ruka. Instantly he was led away by a doctor and Fuji sighed.
"If anyone can get info, it's Sono. . ."
Daisuike sat there feeling more useless than he ever had in his life. He couldn't even go see Ruka and let him know he was there. He took his phone out looking at the time. It was well after midnight.
What was he supposed to do? This sitting unable to do anything was eating at him. He wanted to see Ruka, to just touch him. At least he'd apologized when he'd had the chance. If he never got to see-he couldn't think about that. Ruka was going to be alright. He had to be. He curled up in the seat resting his head on his knees trying not to lose it completely. This evening had turned bad once they'd left the bedroom and had now ended in the absolutely worst possible way.
Sono walked out from the doors seeing Fuji and Masa staring at him with curious eyes. Looking away from them he walked towards Daisuike staring at him, his hands in his pocket.
"So let me ask you this. . . Was it your fault he crashed?" Sono wasn't entirely pleased to be speaking with Daisuike, his voice hard as he glared at the man.
Daisuike slowly got to his feet shooting a glance over at Fuji as he did so. He took a breath looking at Sono. Was it his fault Ruka had crashed? He didn't want to think so, but Ruka had decided to go racing because of something he'd said or done. If he'd only figured out what had upset Ruka before the race. He had apologized at least, even if it didn't seem to matter.
He nodded slowly, "He decided to go race because he was upset with me."
Sono slowly nodded, "Which resulted in him crashing?" Seeing the look in Daisuike's eyes he frowned then sighed deeply before punching Daisuike in the face. Daisuike staggered back and collapsed in the chair he’d been sitting in, blinking rapidly.
"You make a lousy boyfriend."
"Yeah well you broke his heart Sono."
"Shut the fuck up Fuji!" Sono rounded screaming at the man who stood up to face him.
"What? Can't take the fact that you were also someone who made Ruka crash? He nearly died that time. Is it as bad this time? Huh?"
"I said shut up, aho!"
"Really now Sono, I wouldn't expect you to be such an asshole about this. Are you that displeased that Ruka is moving on?"
"I said shut up!"
Daisuike wiped the blood from his chin looking at the floor as they argued. Getting up he faced the three of them. His voice cut through their yelling.
"Shut the fuck up, all of you. It doesn't matter whose fault it is. All that matters is that Ruka is hurt and we need to be there for him. Arguing like this accomplishes nothing." He looked at Sono. "No one, not me, not you, no one will ever be good enough to deserve Ruka. Acting like this doesn't prove anything. I apologized to Ruka even though I have no idea why he was upset. It was his choice to race. It was not his fault he got into an accident and I will be dealing with those responsible. For right now we need to focus on Ruka, not arguing about stupid things."
"Fine." Fuji moved to sit next to Masa, irritated more than he had been in a long time. Sono stood there in silence for a moment glaring at Daisuike.
"Even if you're right I don't have to like it." It was easier to just blame someone else, but it wouldn't solve anything. Sono sat down in a chair gripping his hair for a moment. "He has two broken ribs, his right wrist is fractured, a concussion, cuts and bruises everywhere, and his ankle is broken" Lifting his head Sono stared at Daisuike. "Happy now?"
It took all of Daisuike's control to not walk over and hit the man. He needed some air, badly or he was going to do something that they would all regret. Turning, he walked toward the front doors then decided he'd be better off not leaving and headed for the stairwell next to the elevators. It was cool and brightly lit. He sat on the steps and held his head in his hands. He now had a pounding headache to go with the other various pains.
He didn't want to think any more, didn't want to have to deal with everything. He just wanted something to make it all go away. But that wasn't going to happen. Ruka was badly injured and he was partly to blame no matter how he looked at it.
"How did everything get so fucked up?" He asked no one in particular. His chest felt too tight the ache sharpening to the point his breathing was becoming shallow.
Fuji sighed as he walked off, not trusting himself around Sono alone as Masa stood to get something to drink and eat. Heading towards where Suke had wandered off to, he opened the door stepping into the stairwell seeing no other place the younger man would go to. Spotting him on the steps he walked over and sat near him.
"You know, his injuries aren't as bad as I would've thought. Plus they aren't as bad as the last time he crashed. He's gotten better at driving so it probably saved his life." Reaching out he touched Daisuike's shoulder.
"Don't let what Sono said get to you. He's just upset and doesn't know how to deal with it."
Daisuike fought the urge to shift away from Fuji. He shook his head, "No, he's right. I'm a terrible boyfriend. I . . . I should have I don't know . . . done something. I apologized, what-what more could I do?"
His hand went to his side as it throbbed. He couldn't stop thinking about what that man had said and he was ashamed that it bothered him so much. Would Ruka even want him back if he knew? "Do you think I'll be able to go see him? Will Sono let me?"
"Sono doesn't know shit about what he's talking about." Standing up he stretched glancing down at Daisuike. "If you're going to say it's your fault, Sono nearly killed Ruka last time then. He had a punctured lung and they couldn't stop the bleeding. Both his wrists were broken, his nose was broken, and he was on life support for nearly a month."
Raising an eyebrow at Daisuike he turned. "Sono can't stop you from seeing your boyfriend Daisuike." Grinning he walked out of the stairwell heading back to Masa.
Daisuike waited a bit before going back out to the waiting area. He really didn't want to be around Sono. Any hope he'd had of making amends with him and thoughts of having even a semi-friendly relationship with him were dead and gone. He just didn't care. Anyone that would leave Ruka, for whatever reason, was not worth his time. He took a seat near them not looking at any of them. He would go see Ruka once he was in his room if he had to beat Sono into taking him back.
Fuji sighed as they all sat in the waiting room for what seemed like hours. Yawning he curled up more then looked up seeing the doctors come out looking around. Instantly Sono was up running to them asking questions a mile a minute.
"Actually, is there a Fuji here?"
"Hai, that's me." Getting up he looked at the doctor hopeful.
"He's wanting to see you." Fuji looked at Daisuike before nodding.
"He's awake?" Fuji followed the doctor feeling a bit sick.
Sono glared a moment glancing at Daisuike but not saying anything as he went to go sit down.
Daisuike shifted in his chair. He was stiff and sore from sitting for so long and really wanted to go home and curl up in their bed. It wouldn't be the same without Ruka there though. He'd sleep right here in the waiting room until Ruka was ready to come home. He remembered all the time Ruka had spent at the hospital after he'd been attacked. Now it was his turn to be there for Ruka. He'd have to go home and make him some food once he found out what he was allowed to eat.
He sighed. The pressure in his chest wasn't going away no matter what he did. He glanced at his phone again. He had a doctor's appointment of his own in a few hours. He'd have to skip it. Ruka was more important.
Fuji ran a hand through his hair walking into the waiting room. He saw Sono glance at him but he ignored him, going over to Daisuike and standing there.
"Come on. He wants to see you. Actually his exact mumbled words were, 'Need Ouji-sama' and then he refused to talk anymore." Reaching down he helped Daisuike up.
"Come on."
Daisuike followed Fuji feeling numb and unsure of himself. Did Ruka really want to see him? He was half way scared to see him, to see him so hurt. His stomach was aching with the tension and he had to remind himself to focus on the fact that he was alive and going to recover. He couldn't be thinking about all the things that could have gone wrong or he'd drive himself insane. He was going to show Sono that he was a good boyfriend even if he didn't deserve Ruka. He was also going to prove to that shithead at the race that Ruka was not what he'd said.
"Daisuike, when you see him. . . Just don't panic okay? It looks worse than it is." Sliding open the door Fuji smiled seeing Ruka sitting on the bed looking miserable and doped up.
"Look who I brought Ruka."
Slowly Ruka turned his head spotting Daisuike and he bowed his head, feeling tears welling up. It hurt so bad, he felt horrible and to see the look on Daisuike's face hurt.
"I- I'm sorry. . . sorry. . . sorry. . ."
Fuji bit his lip stepping back, "I'll leave you two alone."
All Ruka could do was continue to apologize even if he could barely say it above a whisper once the tears started to fall freely.
Daisuike wasn't even sure how he made it to the side of the bed. The last time he could remember feeling this utterly helpless he'd been on his way to the hospital to see Akira after his suicide attempt. Seeing Ruka so hurt and upset was more than he could take. His knees gave out and he sank down beside the bed resting his head on the edge. He was afraid to touch Ruka, he looked so fragile.
He had done this. It was his fault. Ruka would never have decided to go racing if he had just done something different, been more attentive, something. Everyone was right, Sono, Hisoka, everyone. He was a horrible boyfriend and didn't deserve Ruka at all, he was stupid and worthless. He would do better, work harder to show Ruka that he could be a good boyfriend, that he could be what he needed.
"Ruka . . ." He couldn't say anymore as the sobs took over.
Ruka stared down at Daisuike feeling a cold weight in his stomach as he watched Daisuike cry. It hurt so bad, worse than his physical injuries and there wasn't anything he could do to stop it. Wiping at his eyes gently with his left hand he shifted slightly inhaling sharply as pain raced through him as he moved to touch Daisuike's hand softly. Just the movement hurt, but he needed to touch him. Curling his fingers around Daisuike's pinky he felt tears starting to fall again.
"I-I'm sorry. . ."
He wanted nothing more than for Daisuike to forgive him. He had said he would be careful and he had gotten himself thrown into the hospital. Daisuike was never going to forgive him though. Not after screwing up so badly.
Finally getting himself under control Daisuike slowly looked up at Ruka. It hurt him to see him injured like this and he wanted nothing more than to take his pain away. He shook his head his voice soft.
"You don't have anything to be sorry for. Those guys were intimidated by you and-and I won't let them get away with this."
He needed to go talk to Fuji as soon as he was sure that Ruka was alright. He wasn't going to be leaving until Ruka was, but that didn't mean he couldn't track down those guys. They'd never race again once he got done with them.
Tightening his grip around Daisuike's fingers Ruka shook his head, "No. . . It- it's my fault. . . They were being stupid." Hanging his head Ruka cursed himself. He had sworn to himself that if he thought a race was dangerous he wouldn't continue in it, but he had. He had continued and he had gotten injured because of it.
"I- . . . I should've pulled out of the race, but. . . I wanted to show them that even if they were being stupid I could still compete, that I was good enough to beat them." Reluctantly he removed his hand from Daisuike's feeling like he didn't deserve to be touching someone so beautiful and kind after how badly he fucked up.
"So. . . I'm sorry. . ."
Daisuike felt Ruka let go and before he thought about it reached out grabbing his hand. He was not going to let Ruka think any of this was his fault. "No, you were upset and just wanted to race. I understand that. They had no right to be like that, they just couldn't handle having real competition for once. I'll find them and they will pay for the damages."
Ruka stared in shock at Daisuike, slowly lacing his fingers into his. It made him happy to know that Daisuike wasn't angry with him, even if he was furious with himself for being so idiotic. Though if Daisuike went after them. . .
"Suke, you can't go after them." He frowned looking at them, "That is just a bad idea all around. First off, what are you going to do? Rough them up?" Ruka looked really displeased with this option. "Just leave it be okay? These guys are already gunna have a bad reputation for races because of this. Especially if Fuji and Masa let word get out what happened. . ."
"Ano, okay." Daisuike looked down. He'd make sure that they understood that he didn't mess around when it came to Ruka. He'd already got his plan of action all worked out even. He decided he better get up, the floor was getting uncomfortable. Reluctantly letting go of Ruka he pulled a chair up close and laid his head on the bed next to Ruka.
"Do you want me to have the others come in? Masa needs to see you and I think Sono wants to as well." He didn't want Ruka knowing that Sono had hit him. Again.
Ruka stared down reaching over to stroke Daisuike's hair softly. Really he didn't want to see anyone else, he knew what they were going to say and he didn't want to hear it. Fuji was going to scold him, Masa was going to cry and Sono- He sighed softly. Sono was acting the weirdest lately. Ever since he started to date Daisuike things had been awkward between the two of them.
"No. . . I want to be with you but if you were planning on leaving. . ." He still felt strange around Daisuike and was a bit nauseated.
"No! No, I'm not leaving, Ruka." Daisuike sat up looking at him. "Not unless you want me to, but I'd rather stay here with you. I just thought . . . everyone has been worried and . . . never mind. You just need to rest for now."
He was not going to leave Ruka's side. Nothing would make him leave.
Ruka smiled stroking the side of Daisuike's face softly. He never wanted Daisuike to leave him. To be able to be with the man he loved more than anything else made him completely happy and content.
"I just want you."
No one else mattered to him, nothing else even came close to being as important as the man next to him. Tugging softly at his shirt Ruka smiled more even if it pulled at the cuts on his face and lip.
"Lay with me. . ."
As gently as possible Daisuike got into the bed next to him. Even if it was awkward and uncomfortable he didn't care, he just needed to feel Ruka against him. He'd been so terrified earlier that now everything had a surreal quality to it. He carefully put an arm around Ruka burying his face into the pillows his whole body trembling.
“I love you, Ruka."
Ruka smiled softly curling as best as he could next to Daisuike. He couldn't move his ankle at all and his wrist throbbed painfully but all that mattered to him was the way Suke felt against him.
"Aishiteru Ouji-sama. . ." Leaning as best as he could, he gently kissed his forehead, suddenly feeling very tired, "I think. . . I might-" He yawned some, having to blink several times trying to keep his eyes open, "-rest a bit. . ."
He was out before he barely finished his sentence.
Once Daisuike was sure that he was sound asleep he moved back to the chair pulling it as close as possible to the bed. Taking Ruka's hand in his he laid his head down on the bed again just watching him sleep. He would do anything he could to protect Ruka and he'd already failed. He was going to have to try harder.
He blinked a few times trying to keep his eyes open. The adrenaline high had worn off long ago and he felt completely drained. He had to stay awake and watch Ruka, part of him scared that if he went to sleep something bad might happen. He fought it as long as he could but ended up falling asleep, lulled by Ruka's soft breathing.
Sono sighed as he closed the door. Daisuike and Ruka were still both asleep after several hours and just having seen the injuries on Ruka made him sick. Clenching his fist he stalked away ignoring Fuji who was smirking at him.
Shaking his head, Fuji moved to the door and stepped inside. Moving next to Daisuike he gently shook him trying to make sure he didn't wake Ruka.
"Hey, Daisuike, wake up."
Blinking Daisuike looked around groggy and stiff from the awkward position. He immediately looked at Ruka, but he was still sleeping. He looked up to see who had waked him.
"Oh, Fuji . . . ano, is everything alright?"
"Yeah but I think it's time you got some sleep. Why don't you go home? Don't you have a doctor's appointment today anyways? Ruka was saying how he was excited to see how well you were recovering. He tends to blab about things easily.” Shifting back he looked at his friend. He looked horrible but Fuji knew things would be okay. He would recover and be back racing in no time.
Daisuike shook his head, not at all pleased by how dizzy it made him. "No, I'm fine. I'll stay here. The doctor’s appointment is later today, I’ll reschedule it. I'll just go grab a coffee and a snack."
He wasn't going to leave the hosptial, not until Ruka did. He had to be there. He couldn't face going home to the empty apartment. Not just yet anyway.
"You still need to get some sleep, Daisuike. Ruka won’t be happy if you skip your appointment."
"That's right he won't be."
Fuji whipped around staring at his doped up friend who was smiling at them. Sighing he ran a hand through his hair looking at Ruka. Sometimes he really needed to give them warning before he did something like that. It scared the shit out of him.
"Ne. . . Ouji-sama, you have to go. . ."
Daisuike nodded slowly glancing at Ruka then Fuji. "Okay, I will go. Ano . . . Fuji could you or Masa give me a ride? I'm sorry to have to ask but . . ."
He shrugged. He'd rode with Ruka and hadn't brought much cash with him since he hadn't thought they were going to be gone that long.
"Is there anything you want from the apartment Ruka?"
Ruka smiled softly at Daisuike happy, "Call me with the results okay?" Honestly Ruka was really disappointed he couldn't go, it was something he wanted to do, "Do you think I can go with you? Or you do it here? Or-"
"Ruka."
"But Fuji. . . "
"Ruka you need to rest." He smiled softly at the injured man moving to him and patting his thigh gently, "It'll be okay. We'll call you with the results."
"But I want to go." Ruka pouted staring at Daisuike almost like he was begging him to let him go with him.
"Fuji is right Ruka, you need to rest. They are just removing the last of the stitches and doing a check up is all. We will be back before you know it." Daisuike looked over at Fuji. He really wasn't sure how long they would be gone. They needed to stop by the apartment and then head to the clinic. "We will call you, alright. I'm sure Masa and Sono will be happy to get you anything you need."
"Great. Leave me with the cry baby and Sono." Ruka grumbled softly making Fuji laugh ruffling his hair a bit. "I guess I can sleep."
"You should sleep."
"I said I was going to."
"Then you should."
"Just go Fuji. Stealing my boyfriend from me- Oh! I know what I want from the apartment Ouji-sama!" Ruka smiled at him, "I want what I showed you last night." His grin grew and Fuji groaned.
"I don't want to know." Covering his ears he walked out of the room.
Daisuike was glad Fuji had walked out of the room. He nodded quickly his cheeks reddening. "Hai. I'll get it for you. If you need anything else just call me alright."
He leaned down to plant a careful kiss on Ruka's lips. "Just rest for now okay."
He closed the door softly behind him not wanting to leave at all and he was surprised that part of him wanted to throw a fit until they let him stay. There wasn't anything he could do for Ruka right now he reasoned with himself, he needed to go to his appointment and get a change of clothes. And maybe a shower. He went to go find Fuji.
Fuji sighed as Suke found him, he really didn't want to know and he hoped he never found out. It was just too weird thinking that his friend and his friend's boyfriend were having sex. It was like thinking about one's younger brother or something.
"Come on, let's get you changed and to your appointment. I don't want Ruka throwing a fit."
As the headed to the apartment Fuji sighed, "I'm really glad you're there for him Daisuike. He's going to need you a lot. He won't be able to race for a while sadly and that is going to make him depressed."
"I'll do everything I can so he's not too depressed." Daisuike laid his head back on the seat. "I guess I'm going to have to put off what I had been planning until he is well. It won't do much good if he's not well enough. Oh . . . what happened to the Saleen?"
He turned to look at Fuji. He wasn't sure if the car had been towed somewhere or if he even needed to worry about it.
Fuji cringed, "From what Masa told me, the Saleen is gone. Ruka is gunna be upset that he's going to have to junk it. Honestly he would've been less injured in the car Hoshi made him." Shaking his head Fuji frowned then raised an eyebrow.
"Wait, what were you planning?"
Daisuike frowned not liking that the car Ruka had liked so much was totaled. He'd have to see what he could do about that. He glanced over at Fuji. The man was going to think he was an idiot or something.
"Ano . . . well I sort of reserved the Suzuka International Race course. I'll have to cancel it now and see if I can get different dates."
Fuji blinked, then slowly blinked again. "Wait, you what?" Honestly he was having trouble even imagining that Daisuike would do something like that. That and could afford it. It had to cost an arm and a leg and maybe a favor or three.
"When are the dates? If they're far enough in advance, Ruka would make sure he healed in time for it. It would be an incentive for him."
Daisuike shifted looking out the window. "It's not for several weeks. I had to wait for the Formula 1 circuit and the motorcycle races to be done with before there was a weekend free. Is it stupid? Ruka's going to think its stupid isn't he. I knew I should have asked you before I went ahead."
Fuji's eye twitched slightly and he sighed as he released a hand from the steering wheel to stretch it out and smack Daisuike upside the head as he continued to drive. He finally realized why Daisuike and Ruka were so perfect together. They were both completely and utterly dense.
Grabbing the steering wheel again he rolled his eyes. "Do you even listen to people when they talk? I said it would be an incentive for Ruka if you told him you got it. Which means in layman's terms is that he's gunna jizz his pants when you tell him. Do you realize how excited he'll be to hear that?" Laughing softly Fuji was glad Ruka had found someone like Daisuike. "It's one of the most difficult tracks in the world, of course he'll love it."
Daisuike nodded a slow smile coming to his lips as he rubbed the spot Fuji had hit, "Sorry, I just have been so worried about it and then on top of everything else. I did a lot of research about the different tracks around Japan and from everything I read that one seemed like the best. I didn't realize racing was so popular."
Daisuike wondered if he could have the Saleen fixed by then. Or a new one depending on just how bad the damage was. Though he'd have to borrow some money from his father to cover that much. Reserving the track had pretty much taken every last yen he had. He was going to have to go back to work sooner than he'd planned to make up for it.
"Definitely, he'll be excited. I bet you're going to have to restrain him in order for him not to over do it. He'll want to get better as fast as possible. At least it won't be like last time though. . ." He sighed just remembering that. It had been pretty bad.
Rubbing his neck some he sighed, "Last time we have to force him to try and get better. That was a helluva time. Trying to get a 16 year old shit head to move out of bed is not fun."
Daisuike nodded. He'd known that Ruka had a painful past but they hadn't really talked about it much. "I understand how that can be. My little brother . . . he tried to commit suicide a few years ago and ended up in juvie. It was hell that first year or so at least until he met Reiko. She's done wonders for him."
He looked down fiddling with his ring. He wanted to know, but was scared to ask. Was it even any of his business? "How long were Ruka and Sono together?"
Fuji sat in silence for a moment, taking in both what Daisuike had said about his younger brother and to also think about what Daisuike was asking. It was a simple question but it seemed that Ruka didn't talk much about his relationship with Sono.
Sighing he licked his lips. "They were together for about a year. Honestly though I would say about a year and a half. After Ruka tried-" He sighed, how much did Daisuike know.
"I don't know how much Ruka's told you about himself but I feel you need to know this. When Ruka was about 14, he tried to kill himself. Sono stopped him and about six months after that is pretty much when they got together officially. After the attempt Sono basically lived with Ruka. He was over at his house all the time. They were inseparable."
Lowering his gaze a little he glanced at Daisuike, "Is there anything you'd like to know? You deserve to know these types of things and it seems Ruka isn't telling you."
"He'd told me about that and that Sono had been there for him, but . . . I guess I didn't realize they had been together. It's no wonder Sono hates me. I've done nothing but cause Ruka trouble. Literally from the first night we meet." He wasn't going to ask why they weren't together anymore. He'd heard enough from the conversation earlier that morning when Ruka had still been in surgery. "That was the only thing I was trying to figure out. I'd hoped that Sono and I could at least be friends, especially since Ruka seems to value his friendship so much."
Fuji snorted, "That kid, I swear he's still in love with Ruka. I honestly don't know how since he was the one who broke up with Ruka in the first place. Well, you should definitely try to be friends with Sono. He's not that bad of a guy honestly. If not to be friends with him, at least try and be civil for Ruka's sake."
Parking the car at the curb Fuji turned to look at Daisuike, "I'll wait here while you get ready. Take your time. I'm going to call my girl and let her know I'm okay."
Daisuike headed up to their apartment glad that he had a spare key. It felt so empty and lonely when he got inside. After getting out a change of clothes he went to turn the shower on. Once it was good and hot he stripped, stepping inside letting the heat sear through him. It didn't help warm the coldness in the pit of his stomach. Why would anyone break up with Ruka? He shook his head not understanding it. Finishing up he got dressed. It took him a few minutes to find a bag to put the stuff in that Ruka wanted. Daisuike frowned as he looked at the box. He wasn't really sure which one Ruka wanted or why he wanted them. He needed to focus on getting better. With a sigh he dumped everything that would fit into the bag. If it would make Ruka happy then he would do it. Grabbing his phone charger he headed back downstairs hoping he hadn't taken too long. He didn't like to keep people waiting.
