Nick’s in Trouble!

Chapter 18: Nick’s in Trouble!

“So, he buried Elizabeth in a beautiful garden and that part of his life came to a close forever.”

Sarah had just finished telling Nick about Vincent’s past. They were still sitting on the bed and Nick was speechless. With the way Vincent treated him, he never suspected that Vincent would have come from such a loving family and also have a sister that he revered and adored so much. At least now, he had
a better understanding of Vincent. He might be able to use this knowledge to his advantage and find a way to eventually escape.

What neither of them realized, however, was that a large shadow was standing silently inside the slightly ajar door. It had been listening in on their conversation for the last 10 minutes.

“Oh my God!,” Nick exclaimed, “that explains a lot and yet there is still so much more to know.”

He had pulled a sheet around his naked body while listening to Sarah talk. It had gotten cold in the room as the fire had burned out long ago in the fireplace.

“It’s so sad, poor Elizabeth! I never would have expected Vincent to have the capability to love someone as much as he did his little sister.” Nick said, then continued, "He’s so cold and domineering. It’s even hard imagining anyone loving him at all. He’s such a bully! I can understand, somewhat, why he turned out the way he has but that doesn’t give him a reason to think that other people haven’t gone through the pain of losing loved ones too. You’d think he was the only one in the world who has faced such tragedy. Well he’s not! The crazy old bloodsucker should get over it already!”

They both continued to sit in silence thinking when suddenly they jumped up when a voice boomed out,

“SARAH!, LEAVE NOW!” It was Vincent and he was furious.

Sarah quickly stood to her feet, “Vincent, it’s not what you think!” she cried, but seeing the look on his face stopped talking and hurried past him. Before shutting the door, she glanced back at Nick with concern and then was gone.

After the door closed behind Sarah, Vincent strode over to the bed where Nick was comically frozen in place. Before he realized what was happening, he was flying off the bed by the force of a blow to the side of his face.

“OW, HOLY SHIT YOU FREAKING ASSHOLE!” Nick yelled, from where he had landed on the floor and now was holding his hand up to his sore face.

He tried standing but his legs became entangled within the bed sheet and he fell again ungracefully onto the floor. When he saw Vincent approaching him, Nick put his modesty aside, and quickly threw the sheet off then ran to the other side of the room stark naked.

“LEAVE ME THE HELL ALONE!”

“WHAT’S YOUR FUCKING PROBLEM ANYWAY?”

"STAY AWAY FROM ME!”

Vincent just continued to slowly stalk towards him, not saying a word. Nick kept running around the room, barely managing to stay out of his reach.

“LOOK, WHY DON‘T YOU TRY TO BE REASONABLE AND WE‘LL TALK ABOUT THIS! .... OK?” ....

Nick was starting to get a little worried when Vincent didn't respond to his pleas.

“WHY AREN’T YOU SAYING ANYTHING!?”

Nick must have run back and forth, and in circles, at least 20 times before he eventually found himself cornered by the crazy vampire. He was trying to hide from him behind the desk that was in the middle of the room.

Shit, shit, shit, Nick thought, I am in such deep trouble. I think he’s actually going to kill me this time!

Nick was out of breath from all the running around, but Vincent looked as calm and refreshed as if he just woke up from a long and relaxing nap.

Not knowing what else to do, Nick explained, “Look, Vincent, it’s not Sarah’s fault so don’t you dare take this out on her!” This was said with more calm than he felt, “I asked her to tell me what she knew. ... She didn’t want to but I coerced her into it.”

He really did not want her to get into trouble for this. She had been so kind and helpful to him. If anything happened to her, he would never forgive himself.

He stood hiding behind the desk looking at Vincent.

Vincent just stood there glaring at him with anger. His silver eyes were glittering dangerously.

“So, Nicholas, you want to know about my life, do you?” he questioned.

“What about it do you find so interesting, hmm?” he went on.

Nick just stood there gapping at him wondering what he was up to.

“Look!, I am sorry, alright! ... I was just curious that’s all.....I think I have the right to know something about you..... After all the hell you’ve put me through, I think I have earned that right!....I know I have!.... Who do you think you are anyway?... Treating people like this.....What is it with you?......What makes you think that you can.........."

Nick was so busy babbling, that he didn’t notice Vincent was getting closer and closer to him. He was trying to figure a way to get to the bathroom so that he could lock himself in until Vincent calmed down a bit.

Before he realized what happened, Vincent jumped over the desk and tackled Nick to the floor.

“Ooomf!” Nick grunted, “HEY, GET OFF OF ME YOU GREAT OAF!”

Vincent grabbed a fistful of Nick’s hair and held it in a painful grip. Then he pulled Nick to his feet and twisted his neck around painfully.

“I THINK YOU OWE ME AN APOLOGY!” Vincent growled “DON’T YOU?”

“WHAT THE HELL FOR?... YOU’RE THE ONE WHO SHOULD APOLOGIZE FOR TREATING ME LIKE AN ANIMAL!”
Nick shouted back.

Vincent didn’t answer, he just continued holding Nick, and thought back to when he had arrived back home earlier that evening...

The meeting had ended sooner than expected and he was looking forward to spending some ‘quality’ time with his little pet. When he arrived home, he immediately hurried on to his private quarters and found the door slightly ajar.

He could hear talking coming from inside so he stopped to listen and what he overheard infuriated him beyond reason. Stepping inside he hid beside the door and waited for them to finish discussing his life. All the while, his anger was seething to a boiling point. He would deal with Sarah later but now was the time to deal with his disrepectful pet! He would teach him not to invade his privacy again! Yes, Nicholas would learn his lesson the hard way.

Vincent’s past life was his sanctuary, it was private, and was his only link to memories that he both cherished and abhorred. How dare this little ingrate imagine he had the right to invade his privacy! He would pay and pay dearly!

What Vincent didn’t know was that his actions against Nick that night would escalate into a disastrous and dangerous turn of events....leading them into an adventure that would change both their lives forever.
