chapter 19 (the essay)
Name: Reynolds, Josie S.S.# 032-87-9012 Date 11-13-2000
Being a sixteen year old female in the year 2000, the most responsible thing I’ve done is inform myself about sex. It shouldn’t be left to the man to worry about protection. Now there are all sorts of diseases being spread around and the best way to be safe is to have all the information you can get. Birth control is also something to be knowledgeable about to avoid an unwanted pregnancy.
In this day and age men shouldn’t have to be the ones to worry about protecting the female. Everyone should protect themselves for their health and the health of others. If you’re going to be sexually active you should come prepared and informed and you shouldn’t settle for the assurance that he’ll pull out in time or that he’s clean of diseases.
Sexually transmitted diseases are everywhere and the only way to be sure you’re safe to be monogamous with a partner who has been tested and proven to be free of disease. Everyday people die from HIV/AIDS but those aren’t the only diseases to worry about. You can contract herpes from a partner without even knowing it and sometimes you won’t even know until you get an outbreak; if you ever do get one.
Condoms are not the only form of protection and that’s why else I believe females should also be prepared. Female condoms, birth control pills, spermicides and the coil are all things every woman should know about. Condoms break, have holes, and leak and it says right on the box they are best used with another form of protection to protect against pregnancy.
I feel becoming informed about sex is the most responsible thing I’ve ever done because I want to protect myself and others from both disease and unwanted pregnancy. Condoms and birth control pills aren’t the best protection; abstinence and information is.
