A divided Heart

“Sire. The lady Kaire is here to see you.” A made bowed before him and Sarai. “I told her you were occupied with dinner but she insisted. Please forgive me sire.”

Fear rose to the cruel kings eyes. Sarai could see it. The maid could see it.

“Kristian?” Sarai stood to grasp his hand but he did not let her. “Kristian what’s wrong?”

“Servant, take my wife to our chambers now.”

“Yes your highness.” The servant woman bowed again and moved to Sarai’s side. “Please follow me my lady.”

“No. I want ot stay. What is happening? Kristian why are you so worried all of the sudden?”

“Sarai! Please go!” He looked at her. She cringed back at his yelling. The king stepped forward and cupped her chin in his hand. “I promised I would tell you everything when the time was right. This is not that time. Please Sarai go with the servant. Its best this way.”

“A...alright .”

She frowned. Sarai was pulled away swiftly by the servant. She did not like the fear she saw in her husbands eyes. She wanted to be there to support him and offer him strength. Right now King Kristian probably wanted that too but he knew the risks were too great.

“King Kristian Renwal.” His full name was spoken directly to him. Not many dared do such a thing. “ You know..I find this some what humorous that I am here.” She chuckled coldly.

“Than Why don’t you leave and save your laugh for some one who cares?” The king quipped.

“ Oh come now Kristian. That is not the polite way to treat the woman who PUT you on your throne now is it?” Her hands went to her hips. The smoothed the blood red velvet down that graces her body.

“YOU? You did not place me here.” he growled and looked to the ebony haired woman. Her black eyes made him shiver inwardly. “What is it you want here Kaire.”

“I am here to find out what your doing?! You’re not doing what you’re supposed to be doing. Instead I find you here eating supper with some blonde little prat and get this..SMILING!! What is wrong with that picture?”

“Things change Lady kaire. YOU told my council that my family was dead. You are the one that I should be trying to kill but I am not. I took it out on them.” He stood tall. Kristian could not let her push him like a weakling.

“Yes I did tell the council to tell you that. You needed to be back here. You were breaking your word oath to me! I got rid of that idiot do good king Marcus and sent him to the Earth realm. I got rid of his memory and I am the one that helped to start the separation of kingdoms. Without me you would still be Marcus’s little companion friend and servant.” Her words dripped with venom.

“And For that I OWE you but now my family is here and alive! I will have them at my side again.”

“You do that. I should tell you though that your plans are going awry.” kaire smirked.

“What do you mean?”

“In two days from now your plans will fail. The prince Silvan Demetrious of Corinthia plans to wed your daughter Serenity Renwal. When this happens I don’t think I need to tell you what comes next now do I?”

Her black gaze looked over the blonde haired king. She regarded him with vert little respect. Kristian sighed and shook his head at this news. If he tried to stop the wedding than Sarai would be angry at him. If he didn’t than he would face a darker wrath for breaking a vow he once made.

“Do you know what Sarai means to me? Do you lady Kaire?”

“Oh boo who. Lets see If I can get this correct. You were sent by your father to make sure king Marcus was dead. Instead of doing what you were supposed to you met that little prat of a woman Sarai. You got married and had a daughter. OH joy! “She spat on the floor. Kaire started to pace around him slowly. “You fell in love. The black hearted king of Varia was so in love that he didn’t want to come home and rule his people. That changed didn’t it?”

“You killed my father. You forced my hand.” he tensed as her hand touched his shoulder. “I would never have left them or treated them that way if YOU had not used your powers to control me.”

“It was for your own good Kristian.” She moved around so she was in front of him. “You needed to start doing what you said you’d do when you made me your oath.”

“And I am doing what I said I would do. I will Deliver Silvan to you. Not a single hair on his head will be harmed and you can do what ever you like with him. I will not however leave my daughter there. As I said, things changed when I found out my family was alive.”

“If you do not do what you promised, believe me things will get a lot worse for you and your little family.” Black fires burned in her eyes. “Two days Kristian. Do not depend on your shadows to do the job for you. Go there and stop the wedding. Take your little brat of a daughter and bring her here. Than you will deliver me Silvan. Am I understood?”

“Yes you are heard Lady kaire.” He growled the words. “Now leave my home before I change my mind. Do not perceive to think me weak my dear Maiden of Chaos. I would have accomplished my goals with or without you.”

He looked her right in the eyes. It made her take a step back from him. This was a major inconvenience to her but also she knew she needed him at the same time.

“You are very lucky this day.” She turned. “Mind your actions. I am always watching.”

Her heavily heeled black boots slid over the floor to the door. Kristian stood tall and defiant against her. He refused to let him self cower to her. When the door closed though, he took a deep breath and released it slowly. His eyes closed.

“Composure.” He whispered. “Stay calm Kristian.”

“At least now I know Serenity definitely gets that from you.” That voice. It made Kristian freeze. He turned slowly to look at the very upset face of Sarai. She had tears in her eyes and her hands were places upon her hips. “How could you do this to us Kristian!! You’re plotting with someone?! You can not do this to Serenity!”

“Silence!” In a swift move forward he had his hand over her mouth and his other arm around her.”You are lucky that I do care about you. Otherwise I would not like being dis obeyed so easily. I told you to go to our chambers.” He stared down at her. It was a very cold and cruel stare. Sarai trembled in his grasp. She feared that look in his eyes.
“I will do what I must to get my family back here. Serenity will get over him and she will be just as happy with you and I here in my home. In our home.” He pulled his hand away from her mouth and let his finger brush along her lips. “The world is not perfect and we all want things. We have to do and agree to things that we sometimes do not want to make them happen. You were a very unplanned aspect in my life, as was Serenity, but the fact remains you did happen and now that I know you’re alive and that she is alive, I will have you both again. No matter what it takes.”

“Please Kristian.” She whispered. Sarai let a shaky hand come up and touch over his chest where his heart was. “I know you’re love still beats strong for Serenity and me. Please do not do this to her. Please Kristian.”

“I am sorry Sarai.” He kissed her forehead softly. “I have to do what I must to keep you and Serenity with me.” He pulled away. “Guard.”he spoke suddenly.

“Yes Highness?”

A man stepped through the door. Sarai shook her head and grabbed for Kristian’s hand. She could feel it inside. She could feel what was coming now.

“See my wife to our chambers and make sure she stays there. I have errands to attend.” He turned and pushed Sarai into the guards arms. “I will return when It is done.”

“Yes your highness.” The guard pulled Sarai into a firm but gentle hold. “I will make sure no harm comes to her.”

“You had better. Or I will make you live to regret that mistake.”

With that he was gone from the room and out of the door. Sarai was in tears. She couldn’t do anything to stop this. She was helpless. The guard pulled her along now. He had his own orders to follow. He was not going to be punished because of her.

“Kristian!! No please!!”

Her cries fell on deaf ears. He heard her from the main hall but still proceeded onwards. Kristian glances back only once. A sliver of wetness dared escape from the corner of his eye.

“Please forgive me my lady love.”

Kristian turned away from the pleadings of his wife once again. His foot steps took him out of the castle and onwards. He had to do this no matter how divided his heart was. He had to do what he promised for Serenity’s sake. If he did not than far worse things could happen to his daughter. Things that even he did not say. Things that the maiden Kaire would be more than happy to enforce.
