The Lost Prince: 016

krazyXthoughtsXsayari: Thanks for the reviews on my FP account. It gave me insight on what you readers think of my story. I apologize for not responding. I haven't paid much attention to the review section of that site ever since I discovered my updates weren't showing on the new chapter section. The FP account is only for my raws. The AFF account is where I put the final chapters.
You should read this chapter again. I rewrote it (just after Cinnead’s story).

~*STORY*~

Nathan sighed as he sat on one of the intricately carved chairs of the palace’s meeting
chamber, arranging the papers inside the folder he held on his left hand. Dimensional teleportation may be a common trait for dragons but it wasn’t easy. It always took a big chunk of energy from him. He dropped the folder on the table and rubbed his temples with his hands, trying to ease the light throbbing that was a result of his dimensional jump.

Nathan was also exhausted. He hadn’t slept, spending his time in Conrad’s abode. After he had interrogated the kid in the store’s office, he had immediately gone to Conrad’s place. He had shown Conrad the paper with Thom’s picture and the written item below it and Conrad had sent for his hacker friend to gather more information about this new development.

Nathan and Conrad had discovered a lot of things, including the name of the group responsible for Thom’s mobbing. They had been surprised at how cunning those people were, trying to make the public join in the search and capture of the boy in the guise that Thom was a disturbed runaway and his rich relatives were trying to find him. The reward of a million bucks made it even more appealing.

Poor Conrad had blamed himself for having overlooked the power of the Internet. After all, it was his duty as the head of the Earth Council Affairs Committee to look out for all the mystics in the human realm, and the prince was one of their most prominent immigrants. Thom’s safety was of utmost importance. Conrad had been so concerned of his failure that he had wanted to go to the mystic realm immediately to inform the council elders about the recent developments, but Nathan had convinced him not to. The committee needed Conrad and would not be able to function if he was not there, so Nathan had taken his place and teleported himself. And here he was.

Nathan was interrupted from his thoughts as the huge ancient doors of the chamber opened and four hooded figures came in. Nathan stood up and bowed. The figures reciprocated with nods, seating themselves at the long oval table that bore the seal of the Mystic Council. They all took off their hoods, revealing Cinnead, Jinx, and two others, a dwarf and giant.

“Why did you send for us, Nathan?” Brahm the dwarf asked, a little bit miffed at having been awaken at 3:00 in the morning for a council meeting. The other elders also looked at Nathan, curiosity mirrored on their faces. They also wanted to know the reason for this emergency.

Nathan took out a paper from the folder. It was the same paper they had retrieved from Thom’s pursuer, now creased and a little torn up on the sides from having been folded and unfolded multiple times. He handed it to the dwarf elder.

Nathan waited as Elder Brahm looked at the paper. The dwarf’s face darkened when he saw the young prince’s picture and read the writings below. The paper was passed to each of the elders. They were all frowning when they were finished with it.

“Where did you get this?” The giant elder Thorgen asked as he waived the paper, his booming voice resounding throughout the chamber.

Nathan told the whole story about the chase, but left out the kiss. It was no one’s business but his and Thom’s.

“Has Conrad seen this?” Jinx asked.

“Yes he has. I went to his place immediately after the interrogation. We had to call one of his hacker friends to check the site Thom’s pursuer mentioned. The site was registered under Apollyon’s Temple, a religious society that has been active since the 1800’s. It is a legit association so there is no question of the reward being a hoax. And there’s more.”

Nathan took out four sets of printed material from his folder and gave it to each of the elders. It took a while for the elders to scan the pages. When they finished, Jinx and Cinnead had troubled looks on their faces.

“So he was on earth all this time.” Jinx muttered, her usually mischievous countenance nowhere to be seen. In its place was distress, and yes, a little sadness.

“Yes he was.” Nathan confirmed.

“Who are you both talking about?” Elder Brahm asked, his forehead creasing.

Cinnead, who had been quiet all this time answered for them, throwing down the table an article with a picture of a man.

“Kenan Hampton, Head of Apollyon’s Temple, otherwise known as Tathar Elendil; Bastard son of Lessien Elanessë, and my cousin.

“Is that so? Why haven’t we heard about this Tathar before now?” Thorgen demanded.

“He was a very well kept secret of the Elanesse Clan. The Elendils, close friends of the family adopted him.” Cinnead explained.

“And…?” Thorgen urged Cinnead to continue.

Cinnead started to give them the shortened version of his association with Tathar.

“My aunt had an affair with Finrod, a ¼ demon ¼ elf, ½ human hybrid and the result of their union was Tathar. Tathar, Jinx, and I grew up together and were best friends for almost 700 years, until my father remarried and had a child again. Tathar was always fond of my sister Idril, ever since she was born. That fondness turned to love when Idril grew up. Tathar became obsessed with her and pursued her relentlessly for years. Idril hated the attention he was giving her. When she couldn’t take it anymore, she left without telling us where she was going. Tathar became distant after that. Jinx and I tried to gain back the old friendship, but it was no use. One day he just disappeared and we haven’t seen him or heard from him ever since. Decades later while I started working for the Council, I found Idril at court serving as the king’s PA. She was hiding here as a male elf. I think you know what happened after.”

The chamber was silent for a few minutes as they tried to think what significance this newfound enemy had to the welfare of the prince. They still do not know if Apollyon's Temple was actually connected to the demons, but considering that the name Apollyon belongs to one of those hellish creatures, there was a big chance. If that was so, then Thom was no longer free to go as he pleased in the human realm.

The Temple's move to put a bounty for Thom's capture just made it harder for the Council to conceal Thom's whereabouts, and the fact that they had involved the greedy human public made it worst. It would be just a matter of time for the Temple to discover where the prince was and when that time comes, there would be no place to hide on earth, especially with the ever increasing technology the humans had. The council elders must start planning now to ensure the prince's safety, before it's too late.

The elders talked for awhile, deliberating on what to do. After 30 minutes or so they finally came to a decision.

"The four of us will have to review the plan for ensuring the young prince's safety and we will come to earth ourselves to fill you in, but for now what we need is to find more information about this Apollyon’s Temple and the human agencies that are connected them. Tell Conrad to send out his investigative team. We will be sending ours, too.” Jinx ordered Nathan. “You also need to inform the prince what has been going on. No more secrets.”

The other elders nodded in agreement. They had assented to keep the truth from Thom because they also wanted him to enjoy himself before he took up the responsibility of being the last remaining heir to the throne and the wielder of the Seppara Jewel. They knew the consequences and commiserated.

“I had already made up my mind before I came here to do so.” Nathan told them.

“I’m coming with you. I want to be the one to tell him. I need to…” Cinnead huskily said, his eyes misty. “He’s my only tie to my baby sister.”

“You don’t have to cry, Cinnead. Nathan would never refuse you that action.” Elder Brahm interjected, his eyes crinkling in the corners with laughter as he started teasing Cinnead for being a crybaby.

The rest stopped talking and looked at Cinnead, who was indeed close to tears. A chuckle came out of Nathan, and later joined by Thorgen and Jinx. The earlier gloomy atmosphere lightened.

Cinnead blushed as he wiped his eyes with the back of his hand. For a macho man, he was quite sensitive.

“So tell me Nathan. How are my two boys doing?” Elder Brahm asked after the meeting officially adjourned.

“Still the same, Brahm. Still up to their old tricks.” Nathan answered and grinned as they both walked towards the south wing where the bedchambers were. The others had also dispersed to their own rooms.

“That’s good to know. Wouldn’t want them to lose their touch while they live in the human realm.” The elder dwarf smiled. “Tell them to send me some of those candies they gave me for Christmas. Those chewy ones shaped like bears,” he added as he reached his bedroom.

“I will, Brahm. Goodnight.” Nathan smiled back,

The dwarf waved, locking his door as Nathan went to his designated bedroom.

Nathan didn’t sleep immediately. He lay sprawled on the bed, staring at the painted ceiling, his thoughts drifting to Thom. Cinnead’s blushing when Elder Brahm teased him reminded Nathan of Thom when he got embarrassed or riled up. Nathan had been too preoccupied by his mission to think of Thom, but being confronted by Thom’s double albeit a bigger and more masculine one made him remembering their kiss. He knew Thom was inexperienced in kissing and sex, but the boy felt so good in his arms he hadn’t been able to control himself. He felt his body quicken as he remembered how the boy tasted. He wanted to go home, confess, and take the boy away from all this madness.

Nathan closed his eyes, smiling wistfully. He could do that now, but only if Thom wasn’t the prince, only if he wasn’t the person who held the fate of the Realms in his hands.
