Chapter 17: Vincent Morgan Saint-Leclaire / Part Six - Elizabeth?

Part One / Elizabeth?

“MATHIAS! What are you doing?” Vincent spoke from behind him.

Turning around Mathias hissed back at him, “LEAVE NOW!”

Vincent had just returned to the designated meeting point, with those he chose who were to participate in their little game of hunting. When he arrived, he was surprised to find Mathias alone with the exception of one victim whom he had just proceeded to attack. Vincent was so caught off guard to have come across this unsuspecting scenario, that he was unaware that the participants he had chosen for their game secretly ran off while he was distracted.

“MATHIAS!” he demanded again. “WHAT ARE YOU DOING?”

“I THOUGHT WE AGREED THERE WOULD BE NO MORE KILLING TONIGHT!”

“WHY THE SUDDEN CHANGE OF PLANS?”
Vincent went on, “WHAT IS THE MATTER WITH YOU?”

Mathias was still looking at him, there was blood dribbling down his chin, and he had a more than usual mad glint in his eyes.

“WHAT IS IT ABOUT THE WORD, LEAVE NOW!, THAT YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND VINCENT!?” he growled back. “LEAVE NOW BEFORE YOU LIVE TO REGRET DISOBEYING ME!”

Vincent looked at him with barely controlled anger and answered, “FINE!, I will leave you alone to enjoy your nighttime snack! Maybe,I will see you later.”

He started to turn around but suddenly heard something that shocked him into a standstill ....and sent him tumbling years back into his forgotten past.....it was the sound of someone humming a long forgotten lullaby.....it was so familiar...he was trying to remember...trying to place where he had heard it before....

He could just barely make out a face through the haze and fog of his mind. He clenched his eyes shut tightly, his head was beginning to throb, the image was becoming clearer. It was coming closer and closer until he could almost make it out. Who was it? He saw a face getting nearer, saw silver golden hair and beautiful large gray eyes......., a sweet angelic face,.... one that he remembered,..... his childhood,.... his parents....... and then it all came rushing back to him ......all his distant memories.....everything...... ELIZABETH!!??

“NO!!!” he roared in fury, flying through the air to tackle Mathias..........

Mathias turned around to meet Vincent head on and they clashed. It was vicious and violent. They slashed each other, clawed, ripped and bit. This was a fight to the death and only one would win. Blood flew everywhere and curses ripped through stillness of the silence of the night.

They flew in the air with their fangs extended and slowly circled each other.

“LET IT GO, VINCENT!” Mathias cried, “YOU CAN’T BEAT ME!”

“SHE’S MY SISTER!” Vincent yelled back, “YOU KNEW THIS AND STILL YOU WOULD KILL HER! AFTER ALL WE HAVE MEANT TO EACH OTHER! WHY?”

Mathias looked at him and snarled back, “YOU ARE BETTER OFF WITHOUT HER, SHE WILL ONLY WEAKEN YOU, MAKE YOU USELESS.” He went on, “I DIDN’T KNOW WHO SHE WAS AT FIRST, WHEN I FINALLY REALIZED, I KNEW I HAD TO DISPOSE OF HER BEFORE YOU RETURNED.”

Vincent looked at Mathias in disbelief.

Then Mathias continued his tirade of words while trying to distract Vincent.

“I WAS RIGHT!... LOOK AT YOU!.... YOU HAVE ALREADY FALLEN!”

“LET ME FINISH IT VINCENT. LET ME KILL AND END HER SUFFERING!..... IT IS TOO LATE NOW. SHE IS ALREADY DIEING A SLOW PAINFUL DEATH!”

“DO YOU WANT HER TO CONTINUE TO NEEDLESSLY SUFFER?... SHE IS PITIFUL!......LOOK AT HER!.... IS THIS WHAT YOU WANT FOR YOUR BELOVED LITTLE SISTER?...... ANSWER ME, VINCENT!”

“I CAN’T LET YOU KILL HER MATHIAS!”
.........Vincent roared.

“SHE IS ALREADY DEAD YOU FOOL!....YOU CAN’T SAVE HER NOW!.... LET ME TAKE CARE OF IT AND I WILL GET RID OF THE BODY FOR YOU SINCE YOU DON’T HAVE THE COURAGE TO HANDLE THIS YOURSELF!”......... called back Mathias.

Vincent’s eyes turned blood red and he lost all control of his actions, he flew straight into Mathias and they continued fighting.

It seemed Mathias was winning, until Vincent suddenly managed to get a death grip on his neck, and twisted it. He held on and wouldn’t let go. He used his claws and the strength of his arms to finally rip his Sire’s head off his body. As Mathias’ body dropped to the ground, Vincent released the head he was holding in his bloody hands and watched it falling through the air to join its missing comrade.

Vincent was exhausted. He flew back down to the ground and ran to Elizabeth’s side. Kneeling beside her, he gently turned her body over, from where she was lying on the ground, and pulled his little sister onto his lap.

“Elizabeth?”.....

EPILOGUE FOR THIS SECTION BELOW

Part Two / Epilogue - Finding Redemption

“Elizabeth?” Vincent whispered as he gently cradled her in his arms.

He carefully brushed the long hair off her face and leaned over to kiss her forehead. She was so cold, so still. Why was she out alone on a night like this? She should have been home safe in her bed. It is all my fault. I was suppose to protect her. If I had been stronger, this never would have happened.

As he looked down upon his sister, tears fell from his eyes. There was not much time left for her in this world, and he needed to tell her how much he loved her. He had to let Elizabeth know that he was there with her and she wasn’t alone on her last journey.

“Elizabeth, my darling little sister, please look at me.” he pleaded.

She was so pale and cold, the blood Mathias had drained from her body left little life in her small frail form.

“I am so sorry!” he cried. “I promised you that I would protect you forever, and keep you safe from harm, but something happened to me that was out of my control.”

“I was on my way home to you that night long ago when darkness came to wipe away all my memories.”

“I was a lost soul until tonight when you re-entered my life.”

“You are my saving grace, my little angel, who returned to me and gave me back that which I had lost.”

“I have done such horrible deeds. Unforgivable and unimaginable ones. I am the one who deserves to die not you my sweet little sister.”

“Please forgive me Elizabeth.” he sobbed, “I should have been the stronger one but it has been you all the time.”

“Don’t leave me, please Elizabeth, don’t leave me!”

“I need you! I can’t lose you like this, I just can’t.”

“I need to know you forgive me!”

“Oh, Elizabeth, I love you so.”

“I am truly sorry for all the pain I have caused you.”

“I should have been there for you all these years. I had promised you.”

He closed his eyes and rocked her in his arms.

“Vincent?”...........

I opened my eyes and looked down into Elizabeth’s eyes.

“Elizabeth!”

She was looking up at me with an expression of love, I felt her touch my face with her hand and wipe away my tears.

“It is alright Vincent, I forgive you, it was not your fault so do not blame yourself.”

It was as if I was given a chance at redemption by being able to speak with her one more time.

The last time she had spoken was before our parents were killed and she was kidnapped by Montrose.

She didn’t seem to be in any pain, I continued holding her, comforting her, and we talked until she passed peacefully away.

I buried Elizabeth in a beautiful garden and that part of my life came to a close forever.
