Love Conquers All

“No, Joseph,” Lianna’s voice was filled with annoyance as she yelled at him through the closed door. “Go away!”

“Come on, Lee,” Joseph’s voice was whiny in response. He leaned his head against the opposite side of the door and let out a disgruntled sigh. “Don’t be ridiculous about this! Let me in there.”

Pushing Lianna aside, Madison immediately took matters into her own hands. “Joseph, this is serious!” she said in an angry tone, her hands on her hips despite the fact that Joseph could not see her threatening stance. “Lianna said leave, so leave.”

“Fine,” Joseph’s voice softened in surrender, obviously disappointed with the outcome of the situation. “I guess I get the whole not-seeing-the-bride-before-the-wedding thing. But can’t I at least see my son?”

Glancing over at where Sarah was sitting, holding a sleeping Aiden in her arms, Lianna grinned. She couldn’t deny how good it felt to know that Joseph had a hard time being away from their son for more than an hour at a time. “Would you mind going in the hall and giving Aiden to Joseph?” she asked Sarah with a smile.

“Of course not,” Sarah returned Lianna’s smile. “I’ll be back in a few minutes.” Sneaking out of the room, Sarah felt Madison immediately shut the door behind her as not to let Joseph or Tavian see either of the brides-to-be. “Here you are,” Sarah smiled as she handed Aiden to his overwhelmingly happy father.

“Thanks Sarah,” Joseph didn’t even meet her eyes as he took his son. He was too focused on looking at Aiden’s small, sleeping face. He finally looked up after a moment. “Oh, Zip wanted to see you before the ceremony, if there was time. He’s in the grooms’ room.”

“Thanks,” Sarah replied, heading down the hallway of the reception hall. Although the ceremony wasn’t set to begin for another hour, she was already exhausted. “That’s what happens when you’re in a double-wedding party, particularly when it involves someone as wonderfully crazy as Madison,” Sarah giggled to herself.

Knocking on the groom’s door, Sarah jumped a little when it immediately opened. “There you are,” Zip welcomed her with a smile, and Sarah swallowed hard in return. She hadn’t seen him in his tux until that moment, and it was difficult for her to breath as she took in how amazing he looked.

“Wow,” Sarah’s eyes were still large and round, although a slight blush had broken out on her cheeks when she realized just how intently she had been staring at Zip. “I mean… you look great.”

“As always,” Zip gave Sarah his normal cocky grin, causing her to laugh and shake her head. “You look great, too.” His dark eyes flickered with appreciation as he looked at Sarah in her bridesmaid dress. Thankfully, Madison and Lianna had decided to forego the traditional, awful, My Big Fat Greek Wedding-esque bridesmaids’ dresses. Instead, Sarah, Sin, Ava and Kirsten were all in simple, flowing, spaghetti-strapped dresses in a flattering brick red shade.

“Thanks,” Sarah stepped into the groom’s room and looked around as Zip closed the door behind her. As she turned around, she released a little squeal of surprise as Zip pulled her into his arms and pressed her back against the door, his lips seeking out hers. He kissed her deeply for a minute before pulling back and grinning at her once more. “We have about forty-five minutes before the ceremony,” he said suggestively. “What could we possibly do with that time?”

Laughing out loud, Sarah put her hands on Zip’s shoulders and gently pushed him back from her. “Oh, no,” she told him with a grin. “I spent half an hour on my makeup, and I’m pretty sure I have to reapply my lipstick already. Besides, Lianna and Madison might need something. And aren’t you the best man? Don’t you have, like, best man duties to do for Joseph or something?”

Tilting his head, Zip looked like he was considering Sarah’s words carefully. “Probably,” he told her with a somber expression. “But see, we’re guys. Joseph would totally understand the need for a good fuck.”

“You’re disgusting,” Sarah shook her head and tried to hide her smile, but she could see in the shine in Zip’s eyes that he knew she was amused. Stepping to the side to get a little further away from him before she gave in to her own attraction and desires, Sarah reached for the door handle. “But keep the thought of a good fuck for later.” Pleased when she saw a ripple of surprise pass over Zip’s otherwise unaffected expression, she smiled and slid out of the room before he could respond.

A big smile quickly spread across Zip’s face, and he shook his head. “I was so wrong when I first saw her and thought she was so innocent,” he chuckled to himself. “Boy, am I glad I was so wrong…”

The ceremony was beautiful, and all of the guests could see the affection that was shared by the two couples standing before them. Tavian and Madison hadn’t broken eye contact since she had entered the hall. And when Joseph’s voice cracked with emotion while he read his vows, leading Lianna to begin crying and, in turn, for Joseph to then start crying, there was barely a dry eye in the house.

Sarah couldn’t remember having such a great time at a wedding. Despite Joseph’s fame, he had decided to only invite family and close friends. As such, there was an intimate, caring, special feel to the evening for everyone involved. When the wedding bouquet was thrown and Sin caught it – a look of shock on her face – Sarah grinned widely while looking at her brother. He was staring at Sin with no surprise, as if he knew it was fate that she would catch it. Sarah was the only one that knew, but Eddie was planning on asking Sin to marry him when they went away for a long weekend the following month.

In regards to Eddie, things were going much better. While he still seemed wary around Zip, he had decided to give Sarah the benefit of his trust. It was clear Zip still felt unsure and uncomfortable around Eddie, but Sarah was certain that, in time, that would all work itself out.

‘It has to,’ Sara thought a few minutes later as she looked across the room at where Zip was standing alone in a corner holding Aiden. His expression was uncharacteristically unguarded as he looked into the baby’s chubby face. As Aiden blew a bubble, Zip laughed openly and innocently at the child before looking up with a blush when he realized that Sarah had seen him. ‘It has to work out,’ Sarah thought to herself once more with a grin. ‘Because I love Zip more than anything, and I want to spend the rest of my life with him.’

-----

As the wedding began to wind down, everyone starting coupling up with the people closest to them for the final songs of the evening.

“So, your parents are okay taking care of Aiden for the next few days?” Joseph asked Lianna asked they danced. “I mean, he can be a handful sometimes, and they aren’t as young as they used to be…”

“Shut up,” Lianna smiled affectionately at Joseph as she wound her arms tighter around his neck. “My parents will be fine. Aiden will be fine. And you,” she grinned suggestively. “You will be so exhausted by the end of it, you won’t be able to stand.”

For a moment, Joseph still looked concerned. Suddenly, though, Lianna’s words sunk in, and he pulled her closer to him. “Okay,” he whispered, a smile finally crossing over his lips. “Okay, we deserve this, after everything that’s happened.”

“We do,” Lianna agreed as she nestled her head into the crux of Joseph’s neck and shoulder.

“But,” Joseph whispered into Lianna’s hair softly, causing her to look up at him curiously. “First, I need you to say something.”

“I already said my marriage vows,” Lianna reminded him with a smirk. “What more can I say?”

“Well,” Joseph’s face was serious as he looked at Lianna. “Promise me you’ll never scare me like that again.”

“Joseph,” Lianna’s voice was both gentle and admonishing. “You know I can’t-”

“You can,” Joseph cut her off firmly. “And you will.”

Looking into Joseph’s loving green eyes, Lianna shook her head with emotion. “I promise,” she said softly, knowing that only nature and God could actually decide that, but knowing that her love with Joseph would probably withstand even those things. “I promise.”

“So, no regrets?” Tavian asked Madison as he led her around the dance floor.

Looking deep into his eyes, Madison shook her head. “How could I have any?” she asked simply. “I get to spend the rest of my life with the only man who ever managed to sweep me off my feet.”

“Oh,” Tavian blushed, but immediately returned to his usual jokey demeanor. “You’re just saying that because I have a big penis.”

Stopping dancing immediately, Madison shook her head again and looked into Tavian’s eyes. “Untrue,” she told him softly. “I fell in love with you so quickly… you’re the only man that has ever made me feel like I was something worth waiting for.”

“You are,” Tavian kissed Madison’s lips lightly. “You’re smart and funny and beautiful… You’re my wife, and I feel so indescribably lucky at this moment.”

Her green eyes shining with tears, Madison smiled up at Tavian. “Plus,” she added softly. “I really do like your penis.”

Laughing, Tavian pulled Madison into a warm embrace.

-----

“I still don’t like him,” Eddie grumbled as he and Sin moved across the floor. “I don’t care what Sarah says. He’s just not trustworthy.”

Cradling Eddie’s face in her palm as they continued dancing, Sin smirked at him. “Of course Zip’s not trustworthy,” she said matter-of-factly. “And Sarah’s young and naïve. But, you have to admit… Look at them. They really seem happy.”

Glancing through the crowd once more, Eddie couldn’t disagree. “Yes, they LOOK happy. But what about the future?”

“What about it?” Sin asked simply. “No one knows what the future holds.”

Pausing momentarily, Eddie smiled. He knew he was going to propose to Sin soon, and despite the way she acted sometimes, he knew she would accept. And as different as they were… as many obstacles as might occur… as hard as it might be… Eddie was certain that he and Sin would make it. In the long run… Through good and bad… Until the end of time… They would belong to each other. Always.

-----

“He’s still giving me evil glares,” Zip said nervously as he danced with Sarah, looking over her shoulder towards Eddie. “He’s never going to trust me, is he?”

Pulling back slightly, Sarah shook her head. “Completely?” she asked. “Probably not. After all, you are the first guy to steal his baby sister’s heart, remember.”

Smiling down at Sarah, Zip then smirked. “The first?” he asked incredulously. “I’m thinking more like ‘the only’…”

Looking up into Zip’s eyes, Sarah knew he was the only man for her. She would never wonder about other men. She would never want to explore, or experiment, or question what it would be like to be with someone else. She’d been lucky enough to find her true love the first time…

“The only?” Sarah repeated to Zip. “Well, until I get bored, I guess…”

Before she could even finish her teasing, Sarah burst into giggles as Zip started tickling her. “Fine,” she whispered breathlessly into his ear. “I admit it. You’re it for me. You’re my one, my only, my true love.”

Finally stopping his torture, Zip smiled down at Sarah. “Good,” he told her. “So we’re on the same page now.”

-----

The final song began, and he pulled her closer to him. In his arms, he knew, was the woman he would love for the rest of his life. With all her strengths, all her beauty, all her fears, all her insecurities… this was the only woman for him.

As he pulled her to his chest, she smiled to herself. So many obstacles had led up to this moment, yet here they were… Through all the turmoil, all the miscommunication, all the ups and downs, she knew that they would make it. A love like their’s had to…

Holding each other close, they both knew that many more trials and tribulations were to come in the future. But as long as they held on to the things that first brought them together, the things they admired most in the other person, the things that made them fall in love in the first place…

As long as they remembered to hold on, it would all work out. Because, as everyone knows, love conquers all.
