Chapter 17
The Sea Noose
I pulled my legs up against my chest, wrapping myself up tighter in the blanket. It had been three days since Cian had done... that to me. The morning after he had went back home, taking Vitas with him, saying he had to cheek up on his other animals, cheek his mail and answer any messages he might have. I sighed softly and watched the ocean from the second story balcony. I didn't want to be in the house. It seemed too quiet and still.
I rested my head on my knees and closed my eyes, enjoying the gentle breeze that sent chills down my spine. I took a deep breath and let it out slowly, for some unknown reason, a song coming to mind. My mouth opened silently as the words started flowing out quietly,
“Please just don't play with me, my paper heart will bleed. This wait for destiny won't do, be with me, please, I beseech you. Simple things, that make you run away. Catch you if I can.” I leaned back against the chair, the blanket loosening slightly.
“Tears fall, down your face, the taste, is something new, something that I know. Moving on is easiest when I'm around you. So bottle up old love, and throw it out to sea. Watch it away as you cry. Now a year has passed, the seasons go.” my voice stayed soft, the words barely being carried by the wind before the vanished.
“Please just don't play with me, my paper heart will bleed. This wait for destiny won't do, be with me, please, I beseech you. Simple things, that make you run away. Catch you if I can. Waiting, day to day it goes through. My lips are sealed for him. My tongue is tied to a dream of being with you. To settle for less is not what I prefer.” I smiled softly and thought of Cian, my heart aching aching and my stomach knotting to tell him how grateful I was that he was in my life. How happy I was.
I stood up from the chair and stretched, the blanket falling from my body as I did so. I shivered and hurried inside, dragging the blanket with me. I threw it next to the desk, closed and locked the sliding glass door and headed down the stairs. I closed the hidden door behind me and locked it with the old key hanging from my neck. I sighed softly and wandered into the kitchen, looking for something to eat.
I picked up an apple from the counter, throwing the only banana in the garbage, it was starting to get old and disgusting. I took a bite from the apple and sighed softly. I looked into the living room and added another log to the fire and sat on the couch, eating my apple. I finished it and set the core on the table, yawning as I did so. I rubbed my eyes and stretched, my back and shoulder popping softly. I lied down on the couch and closed my eyes, pillowing my arms underneath my head.
I wish Cian would come back soon. I missed him.
I shook my head, clearing my thoughts as I came out of my light doze. I furrowed my brow in confusion. I thought I had heard something. I sat up and slowly stood from the couch and listened. There it was again. A soft thump against the wood floor in the hallway. I took a deep breath and softly padded towards the door. I paused when I heard the thump again. I hesitantly peeked around the corner and saw nothing. The hallway was empty. A knot tied itself tightly in my stomach.
I leaped across the hallway into the kitchen, in fear. I grabbed a flashlight from on top of the counter and turned it on, the light shining brightly in the room. I turned around quickly when I heard the thump again. I took a deep breath to calm myself and looked around the corner again, still not seeing anything. I tightened my grip on the flashlight and took a fearful step down the hallway. The walls themselves seemed to have turned gray and bleak, the floor feeling sickly beneath my feet. I walked slowly down the hallway, pausing before it curved to the left. I listened and hear it again.
I shined the flashlight into the towering darkness and froze, my breath caught in my throat painfully. I clenched my eyes shut tightly, my lungs refusing to take in air. The air around me seemed to constrict along with my throat, pressing down on me heavily. I opened my eyes again, hoping I was dreaming.
It didn't seem like I was. I finally managed to suck in a deep breath, the air around me constricting further. He was standing there, leaning against my bedroom door, his hand thumping against the door. Tight black pants and tight polo shirt hanging from his skeletal frame. His hand was old and rotten, his flesh clinging to his bones, but only barely. His fingernails were long and brown, yellow near the bottom. He turned and I sucked in deep breath, my eyes widening as I laid my eyes upon his face.
His eye sockets were dark and hollow, protruding from his face, his eyes no where to be found, cheek bones sticking out his skin. His flesh was hanging from his face, worn, rotted holes in his cheeks. His nose was gone, a boney stump was all that was left. You could see his half rotted teeth through his cheeks, half of his jaw was gone. He took a step towards me, his arm outstretched. The reach was too much for his rotting bones to take and his arm fell to the floor with a soft thump.
I screamed as loud as I possibly could, my throat growing hoarse with each passing second from the strength of it. My eyes were clenched shut tightly against the vision of the nightmare before me.
“Kassy!” I was shaken awake by a strong voice and affectionate voice. My eyes snapped open as I found my self on the floor, being crouched over by Cian. Tears pooled in my eyes and I clenched them shut tightly, my bottom lip quivering. He pulled me into his arm, maneuvering us so that I was lying against him with his back on the couch.
I took gasping breaths, my chest hitching with the force of it. I buried my face in his neck and cried softly. He rubbed my back gently and kissed the top of my head.
“Hey, it's ok, Kassy. I'm here, love, I'm here... shh, it's ok, don't cry, love, it's ok...” his words calmed me, though my body still raked itself with silent cries. He rubbed my back harder, his other hand brushing my hair back away from my face gently.
“Shh, there... it's ok, Kassy, I'm here... I'm here.” I nodded into his neck and clung to him desperately. I hiccuped softly and pressed my face against his neck, wishing to hide away from everything and isolate myself. Cian's grip never loosened, keeping me cocooned within his loving embrace and warmth.
“I.... He...” I managed to gasp out softly. Cian simply nodded and rubbed my back softly.
“I know, Kassy, I know...” his voice was soft and kind, an under lying tone of caring more than he knew overpowering his words. I sniffled and hiccuped once more before pulling back slightly and wiping my face of my tears.
“You...” I took a deep breath. “You're back.” I managed a small smile before my face crumbled again. He smiled softly at me, brushing my hair back from my face.
“Yes, Kassy, I came back.” I nodded and scrubbed my face with my hands, wanting my tears to just stop. He took my hands away from my face, kissing my cheek gently.
“It's ok, Kassy. I understand.” I shook my head.
“But you don't know... you don't.... what I saw...” he nodded.
“Yes, I don't know what you saw, but, I understand why you're upset and you shouldn't be ashamed of yourself for it.” I looked down.
“M'not ashamed.” I mumbled.
“Yes, you are, Kassy. I'm not here to judge you, I couldn't if I tried. I'm here, because I want to help. And I care about you, greatly. I'd be crushed if something happened to you.” I looked up shyly.
“I... I care about you too, Cian.” he smiled and kissed my cheek again.
“I know, Kassy. I know. And I'm so glad that you do.” I smiled back softly and snuggled back down into his welcoming embrace. He wrapped his arms tighter around me, though not to the point of it feeling like he was suffocating me. It felt nice. I felt wonderfully.
His embrace was something that someone would die to come home to every night. It was warm, loving, caring, protective and no where near dominating. It made small, unnoticeable shivers run down my spine and made me feel warm and fuzzy on the inside. It was wonderful and I loved it. I didn't want to leave it, ever. I wished that I could stay in his arms forever. I nuzzled his neck softly and sighed.
“Do you want to talk about it, Kassy?” his voice was soft and I thought I might have been imagining him asking me the question. My mouth opened and closed a few times before I was able to form a coherent response.
“I'd... like to.... but... I...” he nodded and kissed the top of my head.
“You don't have to talk about it now, Kassy, though I would like for you to try to talk to me about it sometime later, all right? I won't push, though. It's completely up to you.” I nodded softly and kissed his neck, relief rushing through me at the idea of telling later and just not right now. He rubbed my back softly and rested his head on mine, content with holding me in his lap for the time being.
Much later, we had moved to the bedroom, putting a few logs into the fire to keep it burning for a few hours. I was lying on my side, Cian next to me on his back, his arms over his head. My head was propped up on my hand and I looked down at Cian as my fingers lightly traced his bare chest. He had removed his shirt, shoes and socks upon entering my bedroom. I lightly circled his nipple and he sighed softly, his eyes fluttering closed.
I smiled softly and leaned down, lightly pressing a soft kiss to the middle of his chest. I saw his stomach muscles twitch slightly from the corner of my eye and moved to his nipple, licking and bitting him softly. He gasped softly, his hand coming down to twine itself into my hair. I smiled and bit him harder, tweaking his other nipple between my forefinger and thumb. His breath caught in his throat and his back arch underneath me.
I slid down the bed, my body moving similar to that of a cat stalking its prey. I kneeled between his legs, pushing them to the side and settling myself down comfortably. I leaned back down over his chest, my own chest ghosting over his stomach. I kissed and licked his other nipple softly before slowly kissing my way down his stomach, stopping randomly and suddenly to lick and kiss a new patch of skin.
By the time I had reached the top of his jeans, he was wriggling underneath me, his hips straining upwards for some kind of friction to be created. I grinned up at him, though he didn't see me, his eyes were still closed. I paused for a moment to look at him, his cheeks flushed and breath coming in soft pants. I smiled, he looked wonderful like this. I wish I could keep him looking like this.
I shook my head and bent back to my task. I licked around his navel lightly, the tip of my tongue barely touching his stomach. He squirmed more and tried to buck his hips up to rub against me. I held myself away, not allowing him what he wanted to desperately. My fingers found their way underneath the top of his jeans, stroking his skin teasingly.
“God, Kassy... please.” I lightly bit his stomach as my fingers slowly unbuttoned his jeans, the zipper following at a snails pace. When the zipper was right above his problem, I pulled down hard, adding pressure slightly. He gasped and bucked up against my hand, moaning softly. I pulled his jeans down his legs and threw them to the floor once his zipper was taken care of. I raised an eyebrow and lightly traced the elastic waist band of the underwear he was wearing.
“Getting attached?” He opened his eyes and looked down his body to where I was. His cheeks flushed further and his head flopped back onto the pillow.
“Um...” was all he managed before his breath came out as a strangled gasp as I cupped him through the lacy underwear and squeezed. I smiled to myself and slid my fingers underneath the waist band of the underwear, pulling it down just far enough to free his cock. He moaned softly, his legs feel limply his breathing ragged.
“What do you want, hm?” I lied on the bed, his thighs brushing against my sides as I propped myself up on my elbows above his hardness. His eyes were clenched shut tightly, his stomach muscles quivering as I lightly trailed my finger tip down his shaft.
“Please...” I cocked my head to the side, a strand of hair lightly swishing around his cock. He moaned softly, his hips bucking.
“Please, what?” he groaned.
“Please, touch me! Something!” I grinned up at him and leaned down slowly, my tongue flicking out against the tip. He gasped and arched his back. I smiled and slowly brought the head of his cock into my mouth, sucking lightly. He moaned and consciously pressed his hips down against the bed, trying to give me the control over what happens. I closed my eyes and focused on my breathing, inhaling deeply and exhaling slowly through my nose. I slowly took more of him into my mouth, my jaw moving as more of him entered my mouth. He was moaning loudly, his thighs shaking underneath my hands as he tried desperately to not buck up.
“Oh... god...” the words were choked and he twined his fingers in my hair, trying to pull me up. I managed to suck harder and he finally broke and bucked up into my mouth, nearly screaming with his release. I swallowed everything, suckling him a moment or so after he had finished. When I slid up his body to look down at his face he was gazing up at me, completely dazed.
“You... you actually...” I smiled shyly, my cheeks flushing.
“Yeah, I guess I did...” I ducked down, giving him a small kiss and settled next to him on my side. He wrapped his arms around me after tucking himself back into his underwear. I smiled and pillowed my head on his chest, closing my eyes. He ran his fingers through my hair gently and held me close.
“You know, Kassy, I'm very proud of you. You know that I am. But, even though I'm proud of you, I'm still curious about what you dreamt about to make you react in such a way.” I nodded against his chest.
“I know.” my voice was soft. “I'll... try to... talk about it later, all right? I don't feel like talking about it now.” he nodded and kissed the top of my head gently.
“All right, Kassy. I won't push, though I do want you to talk to me about it. I'm always here for you when you need me.” I nodded and again and sighed softly.
“...Cian?” my voice was hesitant and soft. I wasn't even sure I had made any sound.
“Yes, Kassy?”
“I....” my jaw and mind were working together, but my vocal cords wouldn't work with them. I shook my head and snuggled up against him more. He didn't say anything and just held me, the two of us clinging to each other.
I pulled my legs up against my chest, wrapping myself up tighter in the blanket. It had been three days since Cian had done... that to me.
