Chapter 16
Chapter 016: Homeward Bound :
During the week at Castle Xasthur long lines of armed warriors could be seen marching back towards Castle Vara; while smaller patrols were sent out to find the missing Queen Dionna.
Jasper spent most of his time at the side of Johan and the physicians to make sure that everything was going well. In truth Jasper wanted to be out looking for Rosenbrim. He hated being shut up with nothing to do. But he could do nothing but wait for Johan to finish healing so that they could return to heart of HammerFall.
The week passed agonizingly slow to Jasper. He soon found himself mounted and rode off as the King of Stratsovara watched them from Xasthur's highest tower. Jasper saw the faint image of the king watching them ride.
Jasper glanced over at Johan to find the young warrior rather dejected looking. The emotions the novice wore so openly mirrored those hidden within Stormblade's heart. He felt as though despite it all in some small measure that their mission had failed.
The silver haired warrior looked to the thin, oak case he carried. King Tokkli had assigned him to deliever it unto King Elmgrim alone. Jasper vowed that he would at least accomplish this small task. He felt misgivings in his heart that he was most likely moved to Knighthood so early not because of his skills he possesed, but because of his Stormblade name, and the need for more Knights after the devastating battles of the war fifteen years ago.
They were silent the entire trip home. Neither speaking to the other, except for the bare essentials of converstation. When Castle HammerFall stood in the distance it brought a smile to both warriors' faces. They charged their horses; tired and ready to come home after what felt a long journey.
