chapter 16
so I read my reviews and I laughed my ass off about the age one. but only because I found it ironic. but don't worry, if you read this chapter you'll see what I mean.
The next morning Brian was waiting for Josie outside the dorms. Again he put his arm around her but today he steered her towards the bus stop once they reached the end of the ramp.
“Where are we going?” Josie asked, lighting a cigarette.
“I want to show you something.” he said. Once they reached the end of the path he walked her down the road to the stairs going behind painting and decorating. They went down and around the corner again and Brian pulled her between himself and the wall. He put a hand on the wall on both sides of her and kissed her. “Mmmm kissing before coffee is better than after.” he said.
“I thought you wanted to show me something?” Josie asked.
“I will if you’ll let me.” he said before trailing kisses across her cheek and to her neck.
“Brian, I don’t understand.”
“Not yet. Trust me.” Josie shivered as he whispered in her ear before going back to her neck. Kisses mixed with light bites with random licking and sucking and Josie thought there was nothing better in the world. She wrapped her arms around his neck and Brian pulled back and smirked at her. She grabbed the back of his neck and pulled his mouth down to hers and kissed him. She felt him smile against her lips before kissing her back. She held onto him desperately; as if he’d stop at any moment and she didn’t want him to. Brian took his hands off the wall and rested them on her hips while he nibbled her bottom lip to distract her. He knew Josie had been abused and he knew she had a bad opinion on the things that happened between a man and a woman. He wanted to change that. He wanted to show her how good it could be. Even without sex. Slowly, he slid his hands lower before moving them back to rest on her ass. He expected her to stiffen, to pull away and tell him he’d gone too far but she didn’t. He kissed her with renewed hunger, realizing that, so far, she was enjoying it. Brian moved his hands lower and lifted her. Josie wrapped her arms around his neck and her legs around his waist instinctively and he pressed her against the wall. “Don’t worry, I won’t drop you, and even if I did it isn’t that far to the ground.” he said before going back to her neck. Josie thought she was in heaven before but now, in this position, the feeling was magnified. Josie leaned her head back against the wall and closed her eyes. “Hold on.” Brian said before taking his hands off her ass. He had her pinned against the wall and she was holding on so she stayed put and he put his hands under her shirt on her waist. Josie finally stiffened.
Meanwhile up on the hill-----
“You think they’re off together?”
“Think about it Jackie, I’m telling you, there’s something going on.”
“Lisa, you know something, what aren’t you telling me?”
“Nothing I’m just saying, they act like they hate each other but they have at least an hour to be alone together everyday before everyone else leave the dorms.”
“And I’m telling you you know something. I can see it in your face.”
“Okay so I just might have seen them making out yesterday morning outside the cafeteria.”
“I can’t believe that. I’m sorry Lee, I just can’t.”
“That’s why I wouldn’t tell you in the first place. But think about it, they’ve both been acting weird the past couple days.”
“Not that weird and besides, someone else would have noticed too.”
“I’m telling you Jackie, I came out early yesterday and when I came into the cafeteria they were just walking out and Brian was holding her hand.”
“And no one else saw this?”
“What are you two talking about?” Chris asked.
“Straight edge John was in the cafeteria too. Maybe he saw them.” Lisa said.
“Witnesses, now we’re getting somewhere. And Johns the best you can get. He won’t lie.”
“Where is that guy?” Lisa asked scanning the hill.
“I’ll tell you where you can find him if you tell me what you guys are talking about.” Chris said.
“Brian and Josie. Now where’s John?” Jackie asked.
“Brian and Josie? Like, together?” Chris asked.
“That’s why we need John. Lee said she saw them making out yesterday but I just can’t believe it. So where the fuck is that weirdo?”
“He’s sitting on the stairs right over there.” Chris said. Nothing more was said as the three of them made their way to where John was reading on the stairs of the academic building.
“John, I need to ask you a question, I want you to answer, give details and not mention god okay?” Lisa asked.
“Um, okay.” John said. Jackie and Chris waited eagerly.
“Did you see Brian and Josie together yesterday morning? If so, what were they doing?”
“Yeah I saw them. They ate breakfast together.” he said.
“Ate breakfast together at the same table alone?” Jackie asked incredulously.
“Ate breakfast together alone in the same booth sitting right next to each other.” John said.
“Holy fuck.” Jackie said.
“We’re talking about Brian and Josie, eating breakfast together, holding hands and kissing?” Chris asked, still trying to catch up.
“YES!” Lee said.
Meanwhile behind P&D-----
“Fuck your hands are freezing!” Josie said. Brian sighed in relief, for a minute he thought he’d gone too far.
“Its cold outside.” he said before kissing her again. He gave his hands a few minutes to warm before slowly moving them higher. Josie stiffened again when he reached her bra. He pulled back from her mouth. “Please tell me its because my hands are still cold.” he pleaded.
“Brian, I’ve never done this before.”
“I know. I’ll stop. I’m sorry Josie.” he said slowly pulling his hands back the way they’d came.
“No. it- its okay,” she said, more to herself than Brian. She looked him in the eyes “I like it.” Brian closed his eyes and took a deep breath. The whole time Brian had been worried about going to far and scaring her but now he realized he’d gone too far for himself. He had her pressed against the wall like she was a slut and he was disgusted with himself. He took his hands out from under her shirt fast as if he’d been burned. Josie noticed the change in his demeanor and untangled her legs before sliding back down to her feet. Instead of being wrapped around his neck her arms were now wrapped around herself while she watched him and thought of something to say. Minutes ticked by and he looked disgusted. What he must think of me, she thought. She looked down at the ground as if it would solve all her problems but it didn’t help. She took a few steps towards the corner and the stairs before turning back and looking at Brian. “I’m sorry.” she finally said. “I’m so sorry.” and then she disappeared around the corner.
Brian slapped his forehead like he’d seen Josie do so many times in the last month and a half. She thought it was her fault. And what else should he expect? He hadn’t said anything to her, not a single word. Of course she’d assume it was her fault. She’d think she’d said or done something wrong and beat herself up over it. She hadn’t done anything wrong; she’d been perfect. It was him that was to blame. He’d treated her like she was nothing and she probably felt like exactly that. He sighed and went up the stairs, across the street and up the hill to the main smoking area where everyone was; everyone but Josie. He sat on his bench and lit a cigarette.
“Hey Brian. You seen Josie? I can’t find her anywhere and Jefferson said she never made it to breakfast.” Jackie said. Brian mentally slapped his forehead again. Not only had he fucked everything up with Josie but he’d made her miss breakfast.
“Why would I have seen Josie?”
“You guys are always out here early I was just figuring maybe you’d seen her.”
“Well I haven’t. If you’re looking for her why don’t you actually look instead of sitting here questioning me? She has to be somewhere so go look somewhere else.” Brian said. If Jackie had doubted John about them being together yesterday she didn’t anymore. It was common knowledge that Brian was an asshole but never when Josie was involved. Except to her face. When Josie wasn’t around Brian liked talking about her. As Jackie thought that it was suddenly painfully obvious that there was really something going on. Brian liked Josie. She should have noticed. Two friends both change dramatically almost overnight and she hadn’t noticed until she stopped to think about it. Jackie went back over to Lisa and Chris and sat on the curb.
“I do believe there’s trouble in paradise.” she said.
“Already?” Chris asked.
“Already?! This could have been going on for weeks. Why didn’t they say something? Why wouldn’t they tell us? And where the fuck is Josie?”
