Chapter 15- Where Love was Found
Another little chapter I placed... don't wory we're getting to some good stuff... a nice little sex and a good fight are what you need. Take two and call your doctor in the morning. ^_^
Chapter 15
If anything at all seemed strange, it would certainly not go by unnoticed. Almost everyone would know. If someone had died, everyone went to bury the fallen, regardless of how close they were with the deceased. Life was life, and when it was taken it was proper to show respect. And if someone new came into town, everyone would be talking about it, asking questions and wondering who would come and see them. Such was life in Obiza.
A few people were outside working, tilling the fields and raising animals when they saw two people, a man and woman, pass under the gateway that served as a sign to the entrence of the town. They looked in wonder as the two passed them by, without so much as a greeting looking extremely worse for wear. Though it had been years since any had been seen in the village, the people knew they were travelers. Of course, why they were here was the bigger question then who they were.
The last person to have ever visited had told them he came from a faraway kingdom. He had been thrown from his home and with nowhere to go, he was desperate for shelter. He was definately a stranger, claiming to have come from lands beyond the far northern mountains. His journey had taken a few turns for the worst at it had been days since he had gotten a peaceful sleep and decent meal. And although he claimed he could not pay for anything they had to offer, such a thing was trival to them.
A kind woman had invited him into her home and allowed him to live with her for a time. For days he spent his time wandering the village, taking in the different sights. Many times he was sen helping her, perhaps as a way of payment for allowing him a place to stay. And when the time came for him to move along, the woman had followed, without question and refused to protest with anyone. In the short time he was here, he had somehow made a huge impression on the town's only magic caster. And while the people had been sad to see her leave, they knew it was only for her happiness that she went.
The people noticed these two were seasoned travelers, for despite their looks they had an aura about them that seemed to show they were no one to mess with. Both carried packs and could see one with a staff and the other a sword. They approached a man who was watching them, and he cringed, thinking that perhaps he had been staring.
"Excuse me, do you know where we can find an inn?"
The man was slightly surprised by the question, but it didn't show on his face. "I'm sorry, but we don't have an inn in this town. I'm sure if you asked around you could find someone willing to let you stay for the night," he told the man who asked him. He saw him turn to his female companion and whisper something. She seemed to be agreeing with him, for she nodded before they both returned their attention to him.
"Thank you sir."
As the two walked away, another person, a woman walked up to them. She stood directly in front of the man which caught him off guard for a moment. She leaned close to him, as if inspecting some minor detail about him that most people would have missed. "I see, you have a huanted look in your eyes. You seemed to be troubled by something."
She could tell this seemed to speak to him deeply. "More then you know actually."
"Perhaps you would benifit to visit our shrine. Sometime we ourselves go there to seek answers when we feel that things are... difficult." She turned to the woman. "And I'm sure I can find some extra bedsheets for you two. I wouldn't mind the company."
John and Jessica parted ways for now. John asked his wife to look the town over for the person who took their daughter. It wouldn't hurt to ask people if they had seen anything strange or seen anyone pass through. In the meantime he figured a trip to this 'shrine' might be helpful. If anything, he might even get an idea of what to do.
The shrine was placed just outside of the village, a small single-room building with its doors open. John entered, noticing that it was completely barren save for a single pedestal in the center of the room. He looked around when the doors to shrine closed and barred themselves. John dropped his pack and drew his sword, wondering what had caused such a thing to happen.
You...
John looked to the pedestal, but shook his head, as if to drive the image away. Someone was there, as if he appeared from nowhere. He wore a long blue robe with dirty blonde hair falling down his back. Some of it covered his eyes, but from what John could see, this man had similar eyes as he did.
You... can see me?
Whoever this was, he seemed surprised that John could see him, though John himself was unsure why that was. "Wait, what does that mean?"
Why can you see me? Though my spirit wanders this world-
"Wait, your saying your dead!?" John said shocked, dropping his sword. It made a loud clanging sound that seemed to echo forever in the room. "But hold on, if your dead why are you here?"
I am always here. But why are you here, and more importantly why can you see me? Do you possess some relic of mine? John opened his pack, throwing aside several books while searching. The man looked to several of them before he shouted, Hey! Why do you possess that!? John saw him pointing to the locked book, the only one he had never opened.
"What this thing? I found it. It used to belong to my mother, at least that's what I feel."
Wait... then are you... are you saying that your... Yes. I see it now. You must be her son.
"Wait, are you saying you know my mother?"
She is... my granddaughter. That book was one I gave to her myself. It means that your family.
John froze at those words. "Wait then your... my great-grandfather? How is that possible?"
Worry about it later. This book... His gaze returned to it, and his head shook lightly. I was worried that this book might have fallen into the wrong hands. Or worse, that the seal I placed on it would have worn out. But it's still as strong as ever.
"Wait, so how do you open this book? I've been trying to find out for years! And why does this book need a seal for anyway? What''s inside?"
The figure shook his head. This book contains a record of my acomplishments. It is laced heavily with magic, but for fear that someone might use this magic for an evil purpose. So I placed a powerful seal to bind the magic. No one, not even a demon, coud ever sense the power of magic within the book. Besides, why do you want to open the book anyway? Didn't my granddaughter warn you about it?
John looked down to the ground, hiding the hurt in his eyes, but he couldn't keep the pain from his voice. "She died... when I was just a child."
In that case, my name is Isao Airas, a master of our family's fire magic. The book before you holds a dangerous secret. It contains spells that should never have existed. Yet I, a fool to these powers, recorded them in the living world. Since that book was created, I have never found a way to destroy it. As such it must always be guarded, always kept safe, lest the Forbidden Seal be unleashed.
"Wait so then... This book has the Forbidden Seal?"
The man, Isao gave a look of confusion. Do you know of the Forbidden Seal?
The sun was beginning to set and still John had not returned. Jessica had looked around town, asking people if they had seen someone with a young girl come through the village. But there was no one, for apparently she and John had been the first travelers in over 20 years to set foot into the village. Now she looked from the two cots that would serve as their beds to outside a nearby window, waiting for him.
It shouldn't take this long right? Jessica thought as she gave a sigh. I wonder if he's really alright. Suddenly a voice came from behind her. The woman who invited them into her home, Kora, smiled to her.
"It's ok. I'm sure he will be back soon. There is nothing to worry about." She walked up next to Jessica who resumed to looking out for him. "So, what is he to you?"
"Hm? Oh he's my husband," Jessica said a slight smile. "We are journeying together."
"Reminds me of the time I saw her run off with that man. It's been a long time, I was only a little girl when it happened. But a stranger came to this town and when he left, I could swear he had himself a new bride-to-be following him." She smiled at the memory of the two.
"Really now? So, who were they?"
Kora smiled to her and also looked out the window, as she watched the sun slowly set, the sky turning a faint orange color. The change seemed almost otherworldly, as if some artist were there right now, painting over the sky as if he couldn't make up his mind what it's true color would be like.
"Their names were Kira Airas and Dias Aaron."
