AN: I'm soooo sorry for not updating again for ages *hides*. I had such bad writers block even during my holiday, but I managed to get this done. I hope anyone is still reading this. *falls to knees* shame on me...I'll really really try to update more often now.

Ainu sat on the balcony of his room and watched the waves gently caressing the shores. The twins were asleep after having been given their bottle. It was a peaceful day, yet he felt restless. Syrus was fighting for his kingdom; Taur Nihl was falling to Cortax’s men, he felt it. And his father...what about his father, was he still alive or had he fallen already?
“What occupies your mind child?” Ainu looked up into the kindly face of his uncle and sighed.
“Tis the fact that I am here and Syrus is off fighting a war, not his own.” Lord Keenan reached down and stroked his nephew’s cheek.
“You are impatient, just like your mother. Do you wish to take your children into danger? Because that is what you will do if I allow you to leave. Now pray tell me Ainu what your husband will think of that?”
“I would probably get more then a severe telling off. But uncle I must go, I cannot sit here twirling my thumbs and wait for him to come back. I’m no princess to be locked up and pamapered.”
“What of the twins Ainu? You cannot go thinking rashly anymore, you have responsibilty now for yourself and your children. What if something were to happen to you and Syrus? What would become of your children then?” Ainu blanched at that comment.
“I can protect them...and myself I have my powers.”
“They are too small to travel Ainu. That is my final word, you are staying here. It is bad enough that your children might grow up without a father. I will not have them growing up without a Papa. Do you hear me young man?”
“Yes Uncle Keenan. But...”
“No more discussion Ainu. You and the twins are staying here.” With that Lord Keenan turned on his heal and walked back towards the main building. Ainu frowned and stood up to look over the sea. A few minutes later one of the twins started crying, it was probably Silivren he was always the first to start. A second cry soon joined the first and Ainu sighed, that was Anael joining his brother as a chorus. He went inside and picked up both boys, rocking them gently back to sleep. However, as soon as he placed them back in their cots, they started their crying again. Ainu sighed and picked them up again, rocking them until they fell asleep and then carried them outside.
“You spoil them Ainu. You shouldn’t run in everytime they cry.” Faye took the twins out of his arms and carried them back inside, placed them in their cots and left them to their midday nap.
“Faye...how do you do it?” Faye smiled and hugged Ainu.
“A woman’s touch. Now Ainu tell me what is worrying that pretty head of yours?”
“The fact that Syrus is off fighting my war AND uncle Keenan wont let me go to him. My powers are trained! The twins are 5 months old now.”
“I don’t know Ainu, you’ll be endangering the twins. They are still very little.”
“I have to go though. Please, you have to understand Faye, I cannot leave Syrus to fight on his own.” Faye gave Ainu another hug.
“I understand. Your uncle won’t give you a boat though.”
“Then I’ll just....just....” Ainu frowned and tried to think of the word that one of the sailors had taught him a couple of days ago. “Commandeer one.”
“You mean steal.”
“Borrow...so to speak Faye, if he wont give me one, he’s just asking me to disobey isn’t he? He knows I need to go. My powers are trained....what is there to hold me here?”
“You’re responsibility to the twins Ainu, remember your nightmares...you are not having them for nothing. Be sensible and stay here.” Ainu shooked his head and walked into the room. His mind was made up.
That night, if you had looked carefully, you would have seen a shadow creeping out of the back doors of the palace. It cluchted two small bundles to its chest. The shadow moved soundlessly towards the docks and clambered abort a small ship that layed there.
“And exactly what do you think you are doing Ainu?!” The shadow jumped and spun around, having been caught red handed and foiled in his plan. “You didn’t think I’d let you go alone did you?”
“You’re not?”
“No of course not you silly fool. Seeing as your mind is made up and there is nothing I can do to change it; the least I can do is come with you and keep an eye on the twins. Only an eye mind you, they are still your responsibility and this is all on your head.”
“Oh Faye! You are a real friend.” Ainu hugged her tightly. “We can cast off.” He called quietly and soon there was a scurrying on the ship and they left the harbour without further interruptions.

Cortax’s troops had pushed forward to the inner city, the outer was just a pile of rubble now. The prince smirked to himself. It was only a matter of days until their seige would be a success and the people inside the city would be so starved that they would surrendor, and then he would have Ainu for his own, only his. He cackled madly, causing the captains in the room with him to give him worried glances.
“Have there been any replys to my messages? Does King Apol surrender yet?”
“No my prince, he refuses to surrendor. He said he would rather die then hand the city over to your hands.”
“That can be arranged.” There was an evil glint in the prince’s eye. “I wonder what my precious little Ainu would say if I put him in front of the choice, his father’s and his people’s lives....in exchange for his servitude. Oh I would like to see his face now, he wouldn’t be so quick with his fire then, the fiestly little creature, not when I hold the fate of all in my hands.” Cortax laughed madly again and slapped his knee with glee. “Now back to our battle plans. Magul you take your troops to the east gate and try and batter is down. Gergul your troops to the west gate and cause a distraction so the Magul’s troops will not be noticed. And you Nallon, you deal with those damnable elves!”
“Yes my prince.” The captains replied in unisom. “It shall be done as you wish.” Loud shouting and screaming brought the prince and his captains out of their tent. A fog had risen and out of it came gallopping hundereds of elven warriors. That slashed their way through Cortax’s troops as if they weren’t there at all, at the head rode Syrus his hair blowing behind him like a vengeful demon, his eyes glowing like molten silver as he cut a path towards Cortax and his three captains.
“RETREAT!” Cortax sprang on his horse that was tethered nearby and gallopped off, leaving his captains and his troops to their fate. He would return either with some leverage or with more troops. The latter, he thought would be more realisitic, because where was he going to get leverage from now?
.......................................................................................................................................................
Ainu and Faye had left the ship a few hours ago and were now rather disappointed in their search for two horses. Not only were there no horse, but there also seemed to be no people and no food for the twins. And the twins...well they were quite adamant about what they wanted and that they wanted it right now.
“Can’t you stop them screaming Faye?”
“They want something to eat and you well know it. Honestly Ainu what do you have your head for if not for remembering that your babies need food?” Ainu blushed and rocked the twins back and forth, hoping to calm them.
“There should be a village nearby, we can get some milk there. It is only about 10 minutes walk.”
“Alright, if you’re sure, but if it takes longer, I’m smacking you. They do have a set of lungs to them your boys do.”
They moved off into the direction of the village, that Ainu assumed to be still there. The pounding of hooves soon caught Faye’s attention and she turned trying to locate the exact position of the rider. There was a cracking of undergrowth as the rider barrelled towards her and she screamed.
“RUN! AINU RUN!” Before the butt of a sword hit her on the head hard and she lost consciousness.

Aki: oh i am even more ashamed of myself now that I re-read your review. Please forgive me...I hope you still like this story. There will be a little more nasty Cortax but he will get his just deserts, yes he will *nods*. Loads of hugs for you.
Cobraqueen: Yeah they did help. Thanks for bothering to read.
nyks: Thank you *blush* my most deepest apologies for not updating regularly. AH I am a bad person, yes.
