Ch. 14 Plans
After his discussion with Rose, Jonas felt that he knew everything about Jillian’s condition. He was very thankful that it was just a spell. It wouldn’t really do for the Kings of Jubbellard to be shapeshifters. When he told her that the curse made no never mind to him, she perked right up. By that he meant that she had thrown herself at him laughing. She then insisted that he stay until Jillian to come back.
So there he was sitting in Rose’s room while she slept in the library. It was almost dawn, and Jillian should be back soon or else he would just have to go looking for her. She should be easier to find as a goose right? Just as these thought went through his head, the door opened.
She looked horrible. Her gown was soaked, and her eyes were red. Her soft brown hair was everywhere. She seemed to be sneaking into the room; so she was hunched over. But John was so happy just to see her that he didn’t notice anything else. He shot to his feet, and Jillian looked up. Their eyes caught.
“I’m sorry,” he blurted before she could do anything. “I was in shock before. I should have something.”
She just looked at him. He decided action would be best. Walking confidently up to her, he once again laid his hand on her cheek.
“Why is it that I always make you cry when all I want to do is see you happy?”
This time she tried to answer, “But…”
But he went first, “I still love you. A cursed isn’t something that I would run away from.” She tried to look down, but he forced her head back up. “I won’t run away.”
Jillian had thought she was completely out of tears, but she was wrong.
“Again with the crying.” John looked to be in great distress; so she decided to help him out.
“It’s because I love you.”
His eyes got all big like a little kid who just got an unexpected present. “You do?”
She nodded. He beamed. His hand slipped from her face to her waist lifting her up and spinning them around the room while they laughed.
“Really? You really love me? I think I’m going to have to hear you say it again.”
“I love you. So much I don’t know what to do with it.”
“Enough to marry me?”
Her smile only got bigger.
“I’ll take that as a yes.”
They stopped spinning.
Giving her his serious face, “But I think we should take this curse off of you. I don’t fancy having chicks instead of babies. Rose said she had a friend that could break it.”
“You do know that her friend is the one that cursed me in the first place right?” Jillian wondered how much Rose had actually told John, but Jonas was a good enough man that he would do the right thing.
“We could go and tell my parents tomorrow and leave before the day’s out. I think they’ll really like you Jillian ….” John went on with plans, Jilly couldn’t help but think about Rose’s feelings. What if Princess Victoria had said was true and they were married now?
Jillian felt the dawn before it cam over the horizon. Quickly, she placed a small kiss on John’s cheek which was harder than it looked because he was still talking. He turned to watch her as she returned to goose form. Her light laugh fading into silence as her voice box changed. He hugged her when it was over, just to remind her that he wasn’t going anywhere. Then he set her and the bed and laid down. She curled up next to him. Cradling his body around hers, they fell asleep. It had been a long night after all.
